many try but not as good – Many are trying to cook Middle Eastern food, but no one does it as it should be in North Hollywood. This is one of those places that do it great.
Citysearch Editorial Review – This hidden hole in the wall in a Burbank strip mall offers the perfect synergy of soulful home-cooking and authentic Lebanese cuisine. Husband and wife team Hassan and Hayat Shatila formerly owned the popular Mediterranean Cafe in Toluca Lake that closed a decade ago. But lovers of Middle Eastern cuisine--including a large number of Lebanese emigres--flock to this unassuming spot furnished with only a few indoor wooden tables and a small tented outdoor patio. Hanging on the walls are azure-skied photos of Lebanon nearly as picturesque as the beautifully assembled plates sent out of the kitchen, small gems like hummus gleaming with olive oil (and tenderloin if you’re in a fancy mood), garlicky fava and garbanzo beans, fresh-made soudjouk sausages, and fluffy falafel. Prices are great, too. The vegetarian combo is a steal at $8.95 for five items, and the most expensive dish, sauteed Mediterranean shrimp, is $12.95. Beef and chicken kebabs are in continuous demand, and the powerful garlicky french fries are something of a local obsession.
