prepare to get jipped – Unfortunately, I cannot agree with the other reviewers in terms of this restaurant due to a number of things
1.They are overpriced, I have been to other Mexican restaurants and their dishes werent quite as expensive as this one, I think it is a tourist trap
2. They give very little chips and when you ask for more they want to charge you 2 dollars!!! Are you kidding me! I can get a bag of chips at the store for that price! I have never been anywhere where they charge you for extra chips and especially that much. They are only tortillas for crying out loud, they shouldnt charge that much
3. I asked for a mineral water and they brought me a regular water, I am surprised they didnt charge me for that
4. The charged my boyfriend and I a 2 dollar splitting charge, yet they didnt even split the meal! They just brought out the plate, I dont see why we were charged for this when they didnt do anything.
5. They are stingy with their tortillas, the waitress couldnt get it right even after we had told her we wanted corn she repeated flour and I had to correct her. They only brought out three tortillas and I was afraid to ask for more because I figured they were going to charge me at least 2 dollars for them.
Needless to say as someone who has been to many mexican restaurants both here in California and in Mexico I would not recommend this restaurant unless you want to be jipped. Avoid this place, it is obvious that the customer is not appreciated. They just want your money
Home style Mexican food – El Maguey has a spectacular location, just half a block from the Mission Parish. Everything is homemade! My absolute favorite is the grilled carne asada with fresh guacamole, rice, beans and corn tortillas all covered in their infamous house salsa. I have been going to this establishment for years and would recommend it to any tourist exploring San Juan!
Best Mexican Food in South Orange County – If you are a lover of true Mexican food this is the place to go. The beans and rice alone are to die for. Excellent mole, wonderful chile rellenos, great posole; those are just a few of their highlights.
