I've worked out with Blake's and Gwen's team at Fitness Together (Mission Hills) for 4 years. While I have had several trainers in that time, each has been top notch - knowledgeable and personable. The workouts have been focused on my needs, strengths and weaknesses, and vary from session to session to address all parts of my body. I highly recommend .
Yes, I am a raving fan of Fitness Together.
I am sixty years old and was feeling the effect of a business owner’s long hours and stress on my fitness – and health in general. I liked exercising, but I’ve never liked going to gyms, and my considerable investment in high-end home exercise equipment had gone unused for the most part. In my 30’s I had a buddy and we worked out – hard – 3 times a week. But he moved away and my colleagues and friends had similar lifestyles and so the regular routine eventually went by the wayside. Two decades later, I found a cycling group where I fit in and riding became a new passion. My cardio and endurance improved, but I wasn’t making progress on my general strength training.
I stopped by the F-T studio in Mission Hills one day out of curiosity and met Blake. That was 3 years and almost 200 sessions ago.
What I like about F-T is the one-on-one training, the sense of exclusivity and privacy of the studio – oh, and the people. Not overly chatty and fake rah-rah you get at the big-name fitness centers. It is focused and effective training by professionals. It is truly personal at F-T. My limits are pushed, but not more than I can handle, and as a result I see continuous improvement in strength and weight loss (my goals). And the stretch at the end is an excellent finish to each session.
Blake is an exceptional trainer. But there came a time (I was secretly dreading it) when Blake needed another trainer to sub for our session. What a pleasant surprise to find Kathy knew all about me and my training goals, and where I needed to focus. The workout was different, but fresh and I felt that sweet soreness in new places which means the session worked different parts of the muscle groups. The F-T trainers are an awesome team, and although Blake is my main trainer, I request sessions with the other trainers for variations on the workout. Keeps it fresh, and I always feel that one-on-one experience, which is why I have become a loyal client.
Another thing I can say is that F-T truly cares about me. With Blake’s guidance, we have created a home routine for using that expensive equipment and a travel routine for when I am out-of-town. He also helps with diet and nutrition advice to get the best results from my training.
In a word – exercising is “fun” again. I’ve made a permanent lifestyle change because of Blake and F-T. It was the best decision I ever made to walk in that door . . .
I don't usually give references using social media, but my journey with Fitness Together ("FT") is one I would like to share. I am a 50 something with two busy/active children, a demanding job, household to keep up, and a husband who travels for his job 50% of the time. I was probably in the worst shape of my life and knew I needed to do something...for my kids, my husband, but most of all for myself. My husband is the one who found FT for me. He interviewed them and told me they would be perfect for me. He knew I hated going to gym's where the classes were all 20 and 30 something's, all of whom knew how to move. I couldn't even do a proper squat - and no one had the time nor inclination to teach me. I never made it back to another class...no matter how many different ones I tried. It took me four months to call FT... I always came up with some excuse re why I didn't have time to fit fitness into my schedule. I really don't recall why I finally called...what tipped the scale, but something did and I have never looked back. Blake (co-owner with his beautiful wife Gwen) knew who I was when I called and he invited me in for a free evaluation and workout. I loved the fact that it was just us in the studio...no one watching my poor form, etc. It's been almost a year since I began my journey with FT and I am so much stronger, fitter and more confident than I was a year ago. I feel good! After my first session with Blake, I thought I want Blake to be my trainer. However the schedule that worked for me didn't fit with Blake's schedule, but he assured me that I would be happy with any of the trainers at FT. He was right. I train with Sean and Cat and both are great. They both push me with routines that differ each time. I am never bored. They both also have a way of combining physical fitness with discussions about everyday health without lecturing. My aches and pains have gone away and my ankles don't hurt or swell anymore. Whatever your ailment, I am confident they can help. We talk about my goals and they've helped me get there. For years I have tried to water ski. I just could not get up. I told The FT team that I really wanted to surprise my family this summer...that I wanted this year to be the year I got up on skis. So Sean, Cat and Blake made sure it happened. I took the week of 4th of July off since my family was headed to Lake Arrowhead. I felt good..I told Blake, hopefully I'll be sending you a photo of me up on skis. Guess what...I got up! GOOD JOB MOM! was music to my ears and the smile on my husband's face was the icing on the cake! It was the best feeling I'd had in years. My son captured a photo on his smart phone and I proudly sent it on to FT. Blake was thrilled for me! A week later, the FT team presented me with a framed photo of that moment along with congratulatory and inspirational words. I was blown away...they have become a part of my life. They will be first in line to help me get to my next goal. I would be happy to talk to anyone considering FT and encourage you to take that step towards fitness with FT.
I would like to tell you about my journey that I am going through, but first need to give you a little history. I was in a horrific car rollover accident over 7 years ago. I lost my best friend/sister in the accident. I was very badly hurt and have had chronic pain ever since. In the last few years I have fallen twice (my balance and stability was not good). I thought this was what I had to deal with the rest of my life. My cousin was worried about me and bought me my first 10 personal lessons at Fitness Together in Mission Hills. I was skeptical at first, but eventually went. Since I started training not only has my core gotten stronger, but I have lost 20 lbs since January. I never thought I could feel this good and lose the extra weight that I have been carrying all these years. The owner Blake Beckcom has been working with me to make me feel as good as I feel today. His wife Gwen has a blog with delicious recipes and calorie counts that I am enjoying. I track my calories daily with the lose it app I have on my phone. I love working in the private setting. They have fabulous trainers that are very knowledgeable and work with people with all different types of problems. I would recommend them highly. They have changed my life and I am so grateful. I have trained at Fitness Together for over four years. I cannot say enough good things about these guys. The owners, Blake and Gwen are just good people- very caring and committed to their clients achieving results. My personal trainer is Sean Ryback. He is top notched, very inspiring and motivating. Every workout is challenging. Best of all, Sean and I have begun tracking my progress with weight loss. I'm down ten pounds from the beginning of the year. Give Fitness Together a shot - especially if you dread training in big gyms - and realize that you deserve the personal attention that FT provides.
I've been with FT in Mission Hills now for almost two months. I have been extremely impressed with the professionalism of the staff. They are friendly without being excessively chatty - focusing on the workout - and always upbeat (but not annoyingly so, as can happen sometimes with other trainers). I especially appreciate their ability to stay on time, even at the end of a the day after many clients. The latest I have started a session has literally been no more than 2 or 3 minutes (and I got those minutes back at the end). The space is very clean and functional, and they take care to constantly disinfect after each client. The workouts are challenging and of course tailored to me, and they mix it up quite a bit, keeping it interesting and keeping the learning curve climbing. All the while they push and inspire without yelling or being rude, like you can get in some boot camps. I'd recommend them to anyone who is committed to improving their fitness.
I just tried the initial evaluation at Fitness Together, and it was very comprehensive! I got my BMI, Body Fat ratio, height & weight, along with explanation of what it all means. The trainers here are very patient and good teachers.
I was able to try out the equipment at my own pace and experience what a personal training session is like. I love the fact that there are private rooms for the sessions. No one watching you!
If it's been a while since you have experienced what it feels like to have a coach teaching you and pushing you to go just a little bit beyond what you feel like doing, you should give Fitness Together a try. I had fun, and felt really good.
I have had several personal trainers in the past---Fitness Together is the real deal! They really care and take time to know my goals. The workout suites are private and that has helped me focus. I am finally getting results--and I must say, it is nice to see my body literally transform now. Thank you Fitness Together.
The people make the difference! The experience of training 1 on 1 is far superior to training alone at a big box gym. Your time is maximized for results. IMHO a personal training, customized for you, is the ONLY way to go. I have trained with Blake, Gwen, Gene & Alyssa. They really know how to motivate in a positive way. I feel better at 49 than I did at 20. Thanks FT.
I recently made the decision to invest some money into MY health and happiness. I recently turned 40 and I wanted to look good PERIOD; not just look good for my age. FT helped me reach my goals with diet and exercise by giving me the skills and motivation I needed to become healthier and happier. Whatever your golas are, I believe that FT can help you. Their one on one training really worked for me and I am beyond happy with my success.
