Reviews for La Condesa

La Condesa

Excellent high end downtown Interior Mexican dining in a beautiful Michael Hsu designed space. The drinks are original and amazing (try the watermelon cocktail). In addition to being a hot spot for nightlife, La Condesa is a great restaurant for brunch.

La Condesa

La Condesa is like the Salma Hayek of Austin Mexican food restaurants: Gorgeous, rich, and classy. And like Salma, it's not afraid of aggressively strong classic margaritas, especially when they're topped off with a cactus lemongrass-infused salt rim -- all the better for licking off seductively.

They have a delicious happy hour from 4-7 (M-F) with, get this, half-off wine! And cocktails! And beer! And apps!

Best Happy Hour in Austin! – Best happy hour in Austin. Can you say Caipirinha for $4 and the best nachos ever for $4 more? Wow!! And if you want a decadent treat, try the dessert empanada!!

Buyer Beware! – I don't know if this place has taken a nose dive in quality or if I am just missing something but the reviews on this site do not at all match my experience. I recently went into La Condesa on a Saturday night and every aspect of our experience was negative. The service was bad. The drinks were bad. The food was terrible AND I got sick almost immediately upon leaving!

I wish that I could have given this restaurant a lower score! I have never posted a review on a restaurant even though I enjoy good food of all styles and genres but my experience at La Condesa was so bad that I vowed to write a negative review on it before dinner was finished -- and that was before feeling sick when I left the place (although some of that might have been because of the extreme overpricing of the menu - if you are going to drop this kind of money on Mexican food try Fonda San Miguel). My duck was undercooked, tough, and smelled old. I could go on but I guess I have to stop at some point.... OH and I thought the decor was tacky and tasteless.

Take it from one very unhappy customer - buyer beware! I will never go back to La Condesa.

Upscale Mexican – La Condesa feels like it belongs in LA. Many people will take that negatively, but it doesn't mean to be negative. It's just quite upscale for Austin and has Mexican food that doesn't fit the Tex-Mex style.

The thing that stands out most to me are the margaritas. They're good. And they're STRONG. The food is quite good, as well. The enchiladas are not quite as heavy as you can get elsewhere in town. But that's a good thing. You can enjoy them without feeling overly stuffed. Chips and salsa were quite good. That's always my weakness, and that always makes me stuffed.

For locals, I recommend trying it at least once. If it's your thing, you'll be back over and over. If not, you'll have a good time and owe it to yourself to at least try it out. If you're visiting and aren't on a budget, you should go here. You won't find a better Mexican option in Austin.

Mexican resto focuses on small plates and sustainable fare. – Austin can seem like Tex-Mex ground zero, which somehow always allows room for another colorful spot slinging tacos and margaritas. This one keeps an eye on the very freshest food "raised right," the menu says, regarding its locally grown produce, chicken and duck eggs. Ceviche is juicy; cocktails contain fresh fruit and herbs. The fare is mostly street food--small plates of spiced grilled corn, taquitos, or well-topped nachos instead of the usual gooey, heaping platter. Warm wood booths and fantastic art elevate the experience to something cool and modern. The cocktails help, too. The more tequila there is, the merrier. From sipping smoky tumblers to making spicy micheladas to the perfect margarita, dozens of tequilas are on the menu here, as are wines and a full bar.
