We just went to Tucker Lake and had a great time. It was on a Monday and it was not packed at all, we have never been there on the weekend so I can't speak of weekend crowds, but we had an awesome time. The lifeguards there were all great and very observant of all the ages of kids and there was plenty to do to keep us busy. Everyone there was so nice. We almost didn't go after reading some of the reviews but we had an awesome experience and will definitely be going back soon.
The place to be in the summer! – I have visited Tucker Lake for years and love it! It is always very clean. The water is very clear. Prices are reasonable ($10 for an adult is nothing for a full day of relaxation and enjoyment). There are always lifeguards on duty. The staff is helpful and friendly. I don't have kids, but my niece and nephew absolutely love it and beg to go. It is family oriented. You are allowed to bring your own food, etc., but the food there is pretty good too. We always take food and grill out.
I can't wait for it to open next season.
Don't take your kids here! – Several people had recommended Tucker Lake as a good place to take our kids. I'm not sure if the recommendations are based on visits in past years or if my friends only went during weekdays before school let out. I definitely do NOT recommend this place.
It is obvious the owners are only out to make a buck. They are nasty and have no problem cursing in front of small children. We tried going a few times, both on weekends and weekdays, and each time the place was PACKED!! I'm not sure why during peak times they don't have all of the beaches open. But don't bother asking the owners because they will immediately cuss you out and tell you to leave if you're not happy. I've never asked for my money back, but it doesn't surprise me at all that they would refuse.
What did surprise me is that they had no problem letting teenagers do whatever they want, but will snap at small kids and cuss! If I had teenagers I think I would be okay letting them play there, but this place is just not for small children (mine are both under the age of 7). The other parents that we talked to while there agreed that this place has just gone completely downhill and they probably won't be returning either. It's really a shame.
Also, if you've never been there before, they only take cash. Which is not only a huge inconvenience, but the place is expensive!
I recommend checking out Smithfield Aquatic or one of the other local pools in the area. You can get a lot of the same experience for less money (the daily rates at every other place we have been to has been cheaper), without having to deal with the insane crowds and nasty owners that Tucker Lake has to offer.
They Stole My Money – Please do not give these people your money. I went with my family and they had only 1 of 3 beaches open. The beach was packed so I had asked for my money back($51) so I could go somewhere else. We had not unpacked and had been on the property for about 5 mins. The owner refused to refund my money and was theatening me to leave or she would call the police. I guess "stealing" my money was more important then how people view her business practices. This is coming from someone who has been here before and had a good time. After this type of treatment I cannot see ever wanting to go back now.
