Awesome food and great service – I took my wife to Jimmy V's for her birthday, and we had a great time. The food was awesome. One of the few places that still service escargot. She had the fillet and I had the lobster. We both loved our meal. The baked potato was gigantic. They have the largest baked potato that I have ever seen. Service was great. We were very pleased with our waitress. We will be going back, and this time taking some friends.
Guaranteed Good Steaks – This is one of those places that once you get hooked on to, will refuse to eat steaks anywhere else. The hospitality starts at the door as you are promptly greeted in a polite fashion, and never seems to end. All the staff are very knowledgeable and the quality of food and service is as high as I have seen in my many years of fine dining. Be sure to try the side items as they are often overlooked. Make sure you finish your meal with a shot of Louis XIII (this is one of the few restaurants in this area to carry what I consider a staple) and the dessert of the day.
Best Steak House in NC – The best part about this place is the people. The food is great, the atmosphere is great...but it is the people that really make this an amazing place to have a steak. Everyone at this place is so friendly and they really know how to make the customer feel welcome. You can get a decent steak anywhere in Raleigh but this place makes you want to come back again and again.
Good Food Good Bartenders – Anyone that is looking for a place that has great food and a staff that knows your drink before you ask Jimmy V?s is your answer. Before I can sit down at the bar the bartender literally has my drink sitting in front of me. Make sure to try the filet, and the potatoes are a meal in themselves. My wife and I swear by Jimmy V?s and I will see you there.
A throwback to a time when steakhouses were quiet and civilized. – In Short
Enter this den of dark wood, forest green and burgundy; have a cocktail at a bar that's warmly decorated with photos of NC State's beloved former coach, Jim Valvano. The dining room itself is dark and intriguing. Guests gather to talk business or indulge in traditional steak dinners, and finding comfort in steak-and-potato meals is worth the trip.
Great steak and an Unbelievable Staff – I went to Jimmy V's on a date. We started at the bar where there were two bartenders to wait on us. One was full of personality and was great to talk to. The other was a little quiet for my liking but made a great drink. We were then escorted to our table. Our waitress was fantastic and explained anything on the menu and gave us great recomedations. Blackened scallops were absolutely amazing. Our entrees were cooked to perfection and the cottage fries and cream spinich were a treat. our dessert was homeade toffee crunch sundae. It was a fantastic dining experience except for that I never had another date again. I got caught observing the staff one too many times. But a fantastic dining experience none the less. I highly recomend this restaurant.
Overpriced gristle! – One of the worst NY strips I have ever had. It was around $35, I ordered it Med. and it came out medium, however the cut was not good at all. I could not cut through it, there gristle down the middle, like I was served the scraps. For such a "fine" resturant, I would think the meat, the product of choice when going to a steakhouse would be prepaired with the greatest of care. I've had better steaks at Applebee's. The atmosphere was ok, however I was eating later in the evening and the staff was loud and obnoxious near the bar. I would have to say eat somewhere else friends.
You think the Barn has great service? Try this place... – I have dined at Jimmy V's both personally and also regularly entertain business clients. This place is the real deal. I can count on them to impress clients each and every time. The waitresses are incredibly professional and excellent. The food is to die for. The steaks are consistently fantastic, and the is the one place that will make you cut into them with server present to make sure they are done exactly as you wanted. Don't be shy by sticking to the steaks, venturing off the beaten path will lead you to some of the best escargot you'll ever eat, as well as excellent chicken and pasta dishes. If it's your first time, order the baked potato with your meal and be prepared for a football sized behemoth on your table. This is the epitome of the classic american steakhouse. The dark decor is reminiscent of an old gentleman's club. The restrooms, however, could use a little sprucing up. The restaurant usually isn't packed or loud, making for a pleasant experience at your own pace.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! SMOKING NOT AN ISSUE! – This restaurant is actually a non-smoking establishment (except for the bar area, which is completely separate from the dining room). The review that lists this restaurant as undesirable because of the smoking is outdated and erroneous. Also, the hours listed on this website are incorrect. The restaurant is open from 5pm-10pm on Mondays-Thursdays and from 5pm-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
I have dined at this restaurant on numerous occasions and have received excellent service as well as fabulous food. I would highly recommend this dining establishment to anyone who enjoys great steak, a classy atmosphere and an extensive wine list from which to choose. All of the servers I have had the pleasure to meet have been extremely accomodating and anyone would be pleased with any of these wonderful people. Additionally, the management and bar staff have always treated me with the upmost of respect and I truly feel as if I am a part of the Jimmy V's family. ORDER THE BAKED POTATO WITH CREAMED SPINACH!!!!
I don't get it – This place was touted as the best place steak house in the Triangle when I took 10 associates to dinner. First of all, great bar. Friendly and engaging bartender who made a killer martini. Food: Good seafood sampler with crab, scallops and shirmp cooked in a variety of ways. So far so good. Salad was basic but quite yummy. Now I'm thinking the entree is going to sweep me off my feet. When my rib-eye arrived, "Oscar Style" it was overcooked (not to my MR expectations of fleshy warm center), and chewey and bland. I sent it back. 20 minutes later I got my replacement rib-eye, which was cooked just right, but still tough and bland. The $14 "Oscar" option amounted to a few asparagus spears, some crab meat, and soapy tasting bernaise sauce. Desert was a mousse cake that was supermarket bakery fare, not that of a high-end restaurant. The waitress was appologetic about the meat, however, the $1000 tab was not even graced with the omission of the $28 bad steak. A few of my collegues thought their steaks were just O.K.
