A good place to visit – March, 31st 2011. We went there as a group of 8 people. Ambiance was good. Food tasted really good. The overall experience at Mawa was satisfactory. We all had a nice time there.
We started with the soup. All the vegan soups tasted different. The fish soup, that I ordered, was really hot and spicy. The vegetarian, chicken and shrimp on-trays were really good. I will give 4/5 for the taste of their main course food.
I really loved the desserts. Bhakarava, coconut cream and chocolate ingera were awesome. I liked the people's attitude. From waiters to owner, everyone was kind. I will give 5/5 for both dessert and people.
Having said that, there were a lot of confusions with the orders. Some of the orders never came and some orders came twice. Also, the quantity of food was low. I personally felt the place was a little expensive (for a student !).
Overall, everyone had a nice dinner. When we came out of Mawa, we were satisfied. I would recommend this place.
Great food, hospitable people -98 Sanitation Rating – I absolutely love it and try to go every other week. They have great reviews online and even in the NNO.
Was there last night and the rating I saw 98 we even made a comment to the waiter about that. Mawa's food is made from scratch and given the taste, I do not mind the wait. We love their signature spread and their ginger lemonade. We went last night and had dessert (Mbourou Fass is probably the best dessert I have had). The vartiety they offer is brillant and cannot be seen nowhere in this area. I highly recommend this place!!!!!
Delicious African Food near RTP! – I recently visited Mawa for the first time and I have to say I am impressed! I have had Ethiopian food a number of times before, and Mawa's was among the best I've had yet. The staff was friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about the cuisine, which was absolutely delicious. There is an amazing variety of dishes from many different African countries on the menu. I wanted to try all five of the Ethiopian vegetarian dishes, and they were happy to make me a sampler plate, which was not on the menu. I will definitely be back, Highly recommended!
Bland, Greasy, and an 85 rating! – This has to be the worst place ever. We went there with a groupon coupon and the food was absolutely horrible! Very bland (the lamb was rubbery - my dog's food looks and smells better). Service was slow, but the guy was nice enough. Too bad because the place sounded promising (there is a great African restaurant in Durham). The chicken dish, if that was even chicken, was horrible. Very disappointing, especaily as we really wanted to try this one out.
One last thing, when we went to the counter to pay, we noticed that the Rating was 85%, which grossed us out. If we had seen that before we sat down, we wouldn't have stayed. Now, we always check the rating sheet first. Seriously, don't bother with this place.
