I advise you look elsewhere! – Although I did not have the home built, I did by it from the original owner. My house was built in 2003 by CC and I am amazed to see that they are still in business.

Owning several homes over my life, this is by far the cheapest constructed house I've ever owned. Shortcuts at every possible corner and I have to believe that the local inspector at the time was paid off on multiple occassions as many of the deficiencies i've found are below NC code.

If you're looking to have a home built, dont stop with this company, keep looking!! To those of you that commented that you love your home - Congrats, wait a few years until the shotty craftsmanship starts to show itself, then post your review - I have no doubt it will have changed significantly by then.

For anyone doubting what I am saying, there are 23 spots larger than 4 feet in diameter within my attic that are covered with less than one inch of insulation. A 14 foot section of flashing was completely missing - that caused significant water damage over the course of a few years. I would never consider purchasing from them again.

Good company – Me and my wife love our home. Our builder was great and since moving in our warranty person has assisted us with everything quickly and he is very professional. When my duties require me to be away I am confident that my wife can call and get good service. C&C is a company that stands by their product.

Not impressed – My husband and I built our home with CC when we PCS'd to the Bragg area. We are only 6 months into our closing and all I can say is that I am not impressed. The process of selections was ok, the woman who took it all down rushed all the steps and overly stated her opinion as to what choices WE should make for OUR home. Saying things like "those shutters are super country". WE were hardly given any upgrade options... you would think that they wanted to make money and they would give us all the options available.

Now living in the home you can tell is was build with the cheapest materials possible. I have already had 5 warranty claims and only 1 has been resolved. Even called 4-5 times a week and leaving messages.

I'm confused why the standard isn't across the board. Some of our neighbors have sod on 3 sides of their homes and others only 2.

We had members from CC come to fix our leaking irrigation system and they cut our cable line in the yard, they didn't come in to tell us, they just left the 2 broken wires sticking out of the ground and left us with no cable.

So overall, i wouldn't suggest not buying from CC. Just be aware and a have your CC rep on speed dial.

Response from Caviness and Cates – This is Andrew Benbow, Customer Service Manager with Caviness and Cates Communities, responding to the review posted on 4/20/11. Caviness and Cates was already working to resolve these concerns. While it is unfortunate that the issue occurred, we stand behind what we build. The homeowner has been promised that the floors will be made right, and the warranty on the affected flooring was extended. The repairs made so far to the floors are acceptable by all industry standards- and after the final touch-ups are performed during the next appointment at the homeowner's convenience, any cosmetic concerns will be resolved as well. We are currently continuing to work to make sure all of the concerns raised by this homeowner are resolved, as we do with all of our homeowners. We take customer satisfaction very seriously. Every homeowner has several opportunities to provide feedback about their experiences after closing, and of all who choose to respond, almost 97% state they are satisfied and would recommend Caviness and Cates. Caviness & Cates Homes are HORRIBLE – I have been dealing with CC for a year now. When I moved in my home it was discovered that a bad batch of glue was used to glue down the hardwood. Instead of taking up the floors and doing them correctly. CC sent employee after employee in here to LOOK and then DESTROY these people drilled holes in the floors and filled them with glue, leaving holes all over the floors. The carpet... I was also told it was a bad batch of carpet, it falls apart when you vac the floors. Promise after promise has been made by the warrnaty department and yet nothing is done. One year later my backyard still floods, they promised me dirt and never delivered it. I do not trust CC housing. The quality of products they put in ths home is the lowest on the market. One thing I can say is H&H homes does put better quality cabinets and flooing into their homes.

CC has not care about the home owners. They have sent their warranty guy to my home several times in a year TO LOOK......

They come here they look around and last time even took pictures of the flooring. The varnish wipes off the paper thin cabinets. They will do ANYTHING to not honor their word.

The only reason I rated them with a one is because zero was not an option...

Customer Service – Caviness and Cates Communities is one of the leading builders in this area. They have close to a 100% Customer Satisfaction Rating, and are one of three nominees for "2009 Business of the Year" by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. The previous reviewer appears to be involved with Caviness Land, however Caviness and Cates Communities is a separate company. Customer Satisfaction is the number one priority of Caviness and Cates Communities. In the interests of continuous improvement, they even call every homeowner 30 days after purchasing their new home to ensure satisfaction and identify any potential issues. I know of many families who would recommend Caviness and Cates Communities.

Caviness Land Dev, Caviness and Cates Built Homes – Dear Homeowners,

This letter is to inform all the active duty military, Soldiers, veterans, DoD employees and family members who have purchased a home from ANY builder (i.e. Caviness and Cates, Caviness Land Development, Inc., H & H Homes, LWS Homes, etc.) in the Ft. Bragg surrounding locality. Who am I? I am an active duty Sergeant Major with 26 years of service who has lived in the Fayetteville area since the early 90s. We, like many military families and veterans, had decided to call Fayetteville home after retirement from the military. What happened? Within the first year of owning the home, we were having some “punch list” repairs completed on our hardwood floors when a substantial amount of “moisture” was discovered in our slab-on-grade (monolithic) foundation. It was at this point that we discovered what “home builders” are all about. Why are we telling you this? We have over 15 North Carolina building code violations and cannot sell our home. This problem has led my wife and me to a horrible situation we have to deal with through legal channels and has consumed all of our retirement money, weekends and holidays. Additionally, we both are in a deployable status and this has caused major disruption to our everyday tempo. To this day, four years later, our builder has not taken ownership of his poor construction and rectified the matters. We have since learned there are many active duty soldiers and veterans that are in our very same situation. Lastly, and most importantly, we have learned there are resources in place which active duty, veterans and DoD civilians can use to assist in matters such as these and these resources are not well known to the military and DoD community. Therefore, we want to inform you about your rights as veterans and active duty military members to use these resources that are free and can hopefully help you get your problems resolved which you have not been able. It is highly recommended that you put all communication in writing and follow up any phone calls with an email to the individual.

The first resource is the Ft. Bragg Dept of Public Works, Housing Division. In writing, over the phone and thru email contact Mr. Donnie Cabral, Housing Manager. Mail: Donald L. Cabral, Housing Manager, DPW Housing Division CHRRS Bldg. 4-2843 Normandy Dr. Room 611 Fort Bragg, NC 28310-5000, Phone: 910-396-9526 (DSN 236), Fax: 910-396-7705, Email: donald*l*cabral@us*army*mil.

The second resource is the local Better Business Bureau (BBB). The military has a very close working relationship with the BBB and has measures in place to assist. You can file your complaint online and this will have your matters entered into the channels immediately. File a complaint with the local BBB to have your comments documented.

What will this do? Thru established channels this will get your complaint presented to the Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board (AFDCB). They are an appointed group on post that is comprised of both military and civilians who receive complaints and will investigate matters that concern Soldiers health, welfare and well being both on and off post. Additionally, they publish the annual “black list” that lists all the businesses and areas that have been voted “off limits” to active duty members stationed at Ft. Bragg. This “black list” is designed to protect the Soldier or veteran from any type of bad business that he/she may endure.

There is no bigger investment that a Soldier, veteran, DoD civilian will make in life other than their home. Protect your asset, let your complaints and concerns be heard and see that local builders stop using the military as “cash cows”.

In closing, it is our service to this country which provides the freedom for our country which affords these builders to build homes. Let’s make sure we are getting what we paid for!

File your complaint and concerns today!
