Happy Dog At Happy Paws!!!

I brought my dog to Happy Paws last month and the staff was nice. (Not fake as stated in previous tips.)Coco is a very playful yet shy "Piston" and seemed to have made a few friends amongst the staff and other dogs that board at Happy Paws.

People need to remember one thing when taking their dogs to Kennels or Groomers... If YOU (The owner of the animal) display the attitude of an "A-Hole"... Then what do you expect your animal to do? TRAIN YOUR DOGS...

If you have kids and just send them to school thinking that the teachers will teach your child manners and life lessons, then you don't deserve to be a parent... That goes the same for being a pet owner. It is up to you to train the pet.

Our normal operating hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday thru Friday. Happy Paws closes 5 days a year in observance of national holidays and to allow our management team these days for holiday dinners with family.

The complainant below was told three (3) times (employee statement on file) that the company does not transact business Christmas Day.

On Christmas Day 2012 Mr. Williams arrived at Happy Paws Daycare and Kennel on or about 8:15 PM in the evening. He was observed to be unsteady on his feet and slurring his words. Mr. Williams pounded on the door in two separate clusters of knockings. Mr. Williams also ignored a very large CLOSED sign in the front door. The sign was at eye level, 86 pt. font size, all capital letters printed with black ink on white paper.

The owner was just preparing to sit down for Christmas dinner with friends and family and only opened the door because one last straggler was expected.

Perceiving Mr. Williams state (unsteady stance, slurred words) the owner attempted to explain that the business was closed (4th time) and the kennel was asleep. I should take a moment to explain that dog’s behavior is not unlike that of a 3 or 4 year old boy. Once the dog, or as in this case the entire kennel of dogs, is settled down and asleep waking the entire kennel for one out of line customer isn’t going to happen.

Attempting to explain this to Mr. Williams was pointless, he did not hear our operating hours, he was not listening then or now. The owner returned to his guests and Christmas dinner. I find to odd that Mr. Williams is overtly concerned about his feelings being hurt when he tramples all over the staff and management of Happy Paws.

Mr. Williams threatened to aggressively malign the management, ownership and operation of Happy Paws Daycare and Kennel. I warned Mr. Williams that he had best tread carefully – I would and will pursue with every legal tool any inaccurate assault on Happy Paws Daycare and Kennel. Mr. Williams received the services he paid for.

Happy Paws Daycare and Kennel has a reputation for the highest quality of care and sanitation. Our active customer base is 2,000 and growing. We excel by exceeding the customers expectations consistently.

Whatever you do, do not take your pet here. The owner (David) is crazy. I had a bad feeling about this place from the beginning, but gave them a chance. Worst decision i could have made. After trying to pick my dog up a day early and getting the door slammed in my face, he chased me out of the kennel the following day cussing and screaming. He was upset that i had knocked on the door after the kennel had closed for the night the day before. HE ACTUAL THREATENED TO HAVE HIS LAWYER COME AFTER ME FOR KNOCKING ON THE DOOR WITH A CLOSED SIGN ON IT. This all happened right after i had paid him $170. Thank goodness my kids weren't with me at the time. I have never seen or heard of an owner be so aggressive and foul mouthed to a paying customer. This guy has some serious mental issues and i would not trust him with my pet. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!

Very Pleased with my experience here – I had a wonderful experience with Happy Paws. My dogs all came home exhausted after being here over the Thanksgiving holiday. They were excited to go when I dropped them off and when I picked them up them smelled good and seemed very happy as well as tired. I love that someone is with them outside at all times. I was happy that they had so much play time each day as well. The staff accommodated all my pets needs with medications and special diets and were always very friendly and nice when I was there. I took a tour of the facility unannounced and it was very clean as well. Thank you everyone at Happy Paws for taking such great care of my babies!!

Horrible place!! Fake hospitality. Stay away!! – After the dog got hurt (very serious cut) we asked some questions as to how it happened. The owner immediately got extremely defensive and very rude for no reason. All that was asked was what how this happened and if they had a policy on aggressive dogs... we didn't ask for anything beyond that. I can't believe they treat customers that way!!

They seems nice as long as nothing is wrong... after something happens, they get very very rude. I would stay away...

Wonderful Place...Warm People! – I'm relatively new to the area and have been taking my dog to Happy Paws almost every weekday for daycare for about 6 months now. They are absolutely wonderful and my dog comes back happy and well cared for. The entire staff is warm, friendly and caring, and I have the utmost confidence in them. The facilities are always clean, and I love the fact that there is always someone outside watching the dogs play. I would whole-heartedly recommend this daycare to anyone.

STOPPED TAKING MY DOG THERE – I was taking my 1 year old rescued boxer to Happy Paws for just about a year. 'Wally' was in desparate need of training and socialization and we spent A LOT of time and money to ensure that he had it. After attempts at training with many different tools and approaches, we resorted to the use of an e-collar. After several private training sessions, we decided that one of the best things for him would be Doggy Day Care. We settled on Happy Paws as our first interactions with them were very positive. At that time, there was an employee there by the name of Matt who was truly remarkable with dogs and loved Wally as much as we did. In addition, he had a full knowledge of e-collar usage which was VERY IMPORTANT to us as owners. We obviously wanted to make sure that the proper techniques were used. We only sent Wally on the days that Matt worked. Things were great until the insane owner, David, decided that he should turnover most of his staff, including Matt. I was somewhat hesitant to continue using their services without Matt, but was falsely reassured by David. On two separate occassions, when we picked Wally up, his e-collar remote was turned up to '80' which is WAY HIGHER than we EVER used with him. We approached David and he said that it must have been an accident but they would keep an eye on it. Over the course of the next two weeks, there were a couple of unsettling exchanges between David and his staff; he simply treated them with no respect and spoke to them like they were nothing. We decided we would send Wally there without his collar in order to avoid improper corrections. That same day, I received a call from them in the middle of day saying that there was an incident with another dog and we either had to bring his collar there or come get him. I instructed them to put him in a kennel and we would come pick him up. Upon doing so, it was evident that David was flustered and overwhelmed. Not something you would expect from someone who owns a doggie day care. We said that we didn't understand what the problem was and why his collar was needed. David responded that "it was the only way they could control him'. I was immediately infuriated as this basically told me that they had in fact been using the e-collar on an unacceptable setting simply because they have no idea how to work with dogs and moreover what is 'normal' pack behavior. Needless to say, that was Wally's last visit there and we received refund for our remaining visits.

Bottom line is that David has no business having anything to do with dogs. He has no background or training with dogs and his people skills are equally lacking such that he should not be a business owner.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE unless you want to have to worry about their treatment.

MOST AWFUL DOGGY DAYCARE EXPERIENCE EVER – THE MOST HORRIBLE DAYCARE EXPERIENCE EVER ~

I have been taking my (2) labs to Happy Paws for the past year and a half - usually for a few hours on Saturday to play. The owner has been a little rude in the past but today was absolutely awful. I picked up my labs about 10 minutes too early (a new rule in place) and apologized when the owner (David) glared at me. He then growled something and went to retrieve my Labs in the back. I heard him YELL something in anger and then he returned a few minutes later with my dogs. When i asked if everything was okay, he responded with "No. They chewed the baseboards in the kennel." I immediately apologized and offered to reimburse him for the damages. He then replied with "No, it happens all of the time with large dogs. I will either have to deal with it or just accept small dogs. IT IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT LARGE DOGS ARE SO POORLY TRAINED."

With that, I walked out, went home, and then called him back after I had time to calm down. Needless to say, I have never been treated like this - especially after offering to rectify the sitation. I would recommend Puptown Charlotte and Camp Wagging Tails instead.
