Fresh Sushi, Contempory Decor, Intimate Feeling Uptown – I will start off by saying this place is a blast of fresh air for an uptown sushi restaurant. The prices on the menu are very reasonable and the quality and quantity of the food are superb.

Located near the entrance of the Suntrust Building (I think it's actually located in the bottom of the building) you will find, in my opinion, a great semi-new sushi spot uptown. On the corner of Trade and Tryon, behind the little park that sits across the street from the Marriott is this fine place. You definitely have to be looking for it to find it, I'm guessing that's why it's never too busy.

The decor is clean, contemporary and relaxing. Very dim lighting, pleasing colors and intimate feeling. The only problem I have about the arrangement is when the door is opened to the park side (2nd entrance) in the cool weather, a blast of wind usually comes in and makes the place pretty cold no matter where you sit considering there's probably only room for 40 people comfortably in here.

Now for the food. The sushi rolls are great. Most of the rolls are large in size for the price compared to Nikko, Yama or Enso. They have about 50 different rolls and every time, it has been of the freshest quality. My favorites are the Pink Floyd Roll, 112 Roll, Koishi Roll, Crunchy California..but to be honest, you cant get a bad roll on the menu. For appetizers, I would suggest the edamame, spring rolls, tuna tatake, salt/pepper calamari which are all great. As far as entrees are concerned, I really don't get in to those at sushi places, I go there for the sushi. I do know a friend ordered a chicken dish and said it was great, and loved the large portion size.

The only issue, which isnt that big of an issue was that the waitress did not really know the differences in sushi too well. I do not claim to be a sushi snob, but I know a few things and have eaten at quite a few sushi places. At the end of my dinner the other evening, I did the opposite of what is normal and ordered a couple pieces of sashimi. But prior to ordering, I asked the waitress (I did not have a menu any longer) when ordering Sashimi v. Nigiri do you get 3 pieces with Sashimi and 2 with Nigiri(I'm pretty sure this is a common practice because of the addition of rice with Nigiri). She then replied that Sahimi and Nigiri come with the same size pieces just cut from different ends of the fish, no mention of rice fingers. Hmmm, not wanting to embarrass her, I just said I'll have Sashimi. Magically, Nigiri comes out. Either way it was fresh, clean texture and good, but for someone who doesn't know sushi, you may want to brush up your knowledge before ordering.
