Reviews for East India Grill

We went to eat at the buffet lunch today. My husband has been there before and liked it. This is the first time I have been to East India Grill. As I was getting my salad, I noticed a sign that read "don't waste food." I found that very offensive.

Then I went to the main entree table and there were multiple signs that read "dont waste food". I couldn't believe it.

Besides the offensive, non-inviting warning signs, the food itself almost had no taste - let alone Indian. I'm a white, American but when I go to an Indian Restaurant, I'm going for the spices and at least a little heat. Nothing! Tasteless, no hot, no spice. He didn't even taste Indian to me.

great experienes – I have had the opposite experiences at East India Grill. Actually, the last time we went, we were meeting another couple there, and they had called ahead and requested a booth be reserved. Then when I came in ahead of them, I waited until the water glasses were filled and the pappadums and decided that I would be more comfortable at a table, much as the young lady describes, I am big and those booths are tight for 4 big people. Anyway, waitresses and owner could not have been more accomodating and nicer about the switch, despite my disruption.

A friend of mine and his wife got a tour of the kitchen when they visited the place, so I cannot explain the previous review, but feel it is a bit dramatized.

If the owner did as the reviewer said without provocation, then he has a split personality from the people we have met there.

I would like to balance this rating as I have had just about the opposite experience at this place. I am very glad that they are here in an otherwise fairly boring Federal Way dining scene.

As far as food, I have eaten at most of the Indian Restaraunts in the Seattle and East side. East India Grill is not my #1 favorite, but I am a bit prejudice because being vegan, I do not usually like non-veg places and especially anything that has "grill" in the name just does not strike me as Hindustani.

That said, I would like to give this place credit as they were very nice, accomodating, willing to cook the veg dishes without butter (ghee) or cream which makes them vegan, and that is sometimes a tough request in an Indian restaraunt.

Also, their food is definitely NOT poor quality. Their vegetables were all fresh and the spices were of decent quality. And, they did pull back from a request for spicy food, which some places do when they see you are a non-Indian.

I have had several of their veg dishes and have been quite pleased and would recommend going there.

If I ever experience the bad, I will recant, but for now, I would give this place a 4/5.

Bad customer service, poor quality food – I had eaten here once before and wasn't too terribly impressed, but we returned because there are just no other Indian restaurants in Federal Way. Upon arrival, the owner seated us at a 2 person booth, little one. I requested we be moved to one of the several other larger tables; I was 6 mos. pregnant and needed a little extra space. He refused. So we told him we would just leave; he said 'ok, leave then.' So this is the kind of customer service to expect here. And the dishes don't have much to brag about either.
