Awesome teppan, best fried rice anywhere, great service!!! – Sagami tei is an outstanding teppan restaurant, the service is friendly and the food is very good. The teppan bar is recommended versus sitting at a table. Try the Filet mignon (rare) with butter, get the fried rice...you are set! Stay away from the sushi, unless average , poorly cut fish is your thing. The "stinky roll" is pretty good but most of the sushi is sub-par. A true "sushi connoisseur" would never eat at an "all you can eat" restaurant. Quality fish cannot be served in this concept. I love this place, I just go to a sushi place to eat sushi and this is first and foremost a Teppan restaurant. Make a reservation on Friday or Saturday or you will wait forever. There is limited parking, some times the beer could be colder but I still love this place.
Buy the Chef a Beer...Great Food! – As mentioned in other reviews, the Teppan food is as good as Benihanas....if not better. Buy the chef a beer and the show gets even better!!! I am particularly fond of the Teppan style scallops and especially the house special Teppan Fried Rice. Sushi is fresh and beautifully presented--I really like the Phillidelphia rolls. (Wimpy? maybe...but they are SO GOOD!!)
The restaurant is dark and crowded, located in a strip mall and very popular. Another review mentioned that the ventilation could be better....very true. But an icy cold Kirin and great food helps make it bearable.
This is a very casual restaurant, TV with sports in the corner...no umbrellas in frosty drinks...but great food, great sushi...a good show and cold beer...and oh yeah...the prices are great! Most dinners are under $20.
Get there early for the sushi bar – ..for lunch, it gets filled up pretty quickly. I haven't tried the food at the teppan tables cause I only go for the sushi. This place by far has the freshest and best quality sushi compared to others that I'VE been to. They have a wide variety plus all kinds of cut rolls; so it's kind of a little piece of heaven for the sushi connoisseur and the brave and willing. During both lunch and dinner, they offer all you can eat sushi (but u must sit at the bar) for around $16 and $26, respectively. The service is great (they're quick, efficient, and consistent); hostess and sushi chefs are generally friendly. When it gets busy during rush hour, don't expect that quick service, that's why I recommend u get there early.
One of my favorites – A great place for a Teppan-style Japanese dinner. The food is excellent. The space is a little cramped, even after they expanded a few years ago, but that is a reflection of how good it is. I would recommend reservations, though I have always been able to get either a table or a spave at the teppan table, though just barely. Good sushi too, though I have neer sat at the sushi bar. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Only downside is they could use better ventilation for the tables. If you wear glasses be prepared to clean your lenses when you leave. This is a good less expensive and more homey alternative to Matsu's in Huntongton Beach.
Better than Benihana... – This restaurant is almost impossible to find if you don't keep your eyes peeled. Sagami-Tei specializes in Teppan style cooking. Generous portions of meat, seafood, sushi, and tempura. The head chef and his sous chef are always very gracious and always put on a wonderful show. Don't miss this one!
