Approve – I have eaten at the Rustic Kitchen 3 times and I am going again tonight. All 3 times I was there we had 6 or more people. We found the service to be outstanding, the price to be fair and the food to be very good. I have eaten their chicken marsella, the NY strip steak and a pasta dish. I can honestly say I have no complaints about any of my meals. I would recommend this place.

Disappointed – I went here yesterday for a friend's birthday. On first impression, I was upset with the atmosphere. The name of the restaurant is Rustic Kitchen, but the atmosphere was not rustic whatsoever. Sure the walls were brown, and the furniture was made of wood, but the design was all Feng Shui. They have fancy light covers that look like bright-colored slinkies. The chandeliers have long curling stems before ending at many small lights. In my experience, if the place is named rustic, it will have a rustic ambiance, and this wasn't the case at all. Moving on, every item on the menu was expectedly overpriced; being located at the Mohegan Sun, the Rustic Kitchen fits right in. I order my favorite dish off the menu, Sea Bass. No salad comes with most entrees, so I await my food. A reasonable time passes and food is served. My Sea Bass comes with some veggies and a sliced potato. I start by taking a bite of a vegetable. Gross. They're in some sauce that's disgusting. No big deal, I ordered the plate for the Sea Bass. I prepare my pallet with a sip of water and my mouth aches in anticipation. I slice off a corner of the sea bass and feed it to my watering mouth. Hmm? Something must be wrong. I feel texture but no flavor. My mouth must have been still recoiling from the veggie sauce. Let me drink some water and take a larger bite. Nope, still nothing. The sea bass, my favorite dish, has been served completely without flavor. I didn't even know that was possible. I've had it a dozen times at various restaurants and the Rustic Kitchen was the first one to ever get it wrong. How were they able to remove the flavor from a delicious sea bass? I'll never know. I moved on to the sliced potato. It was wonderful. Slice by slice I finished my $28 potato and eventually left hungry. I was so hungry, I tried another shot at the veggies and immediately regretted it. My wife and other guests had variations of different pastas. They all loved the flavor. So, lesson learned -- the only thing rustic about Rustic Kitchen is the food. If you go, buy the $20 spaghetti and you won't be disappointed.

Great Service, mediocre food – A group from work went there for a holiday dinner. We had a semi-private room off the main dining area. The service was outstanding! However, the food left a lot to be desired. The prix fixe menu that was arranged for our group included a choice of appetizer, main course, and dessert. Rubbery, bland calamari was the appetizer I ended up with. The chicken I chose for my protein was tasty, but the rosemary roasted potatoes that came with it were so undercooked they were still hard. I didn't taste the vegetable medley (squash, eggplant, and bell peppers are not on my list of edible substances). My choice for dessert was the chocolate bottom creme brulee. While creme brulee tasted good, it wasn't very chocolaty on the bottom, and it was barely bruleed at all. Overall, this meal was a disappointment.
