Worst servvice – love the food at this particular restaurant however I miss the customer service that was once provided. There was a guy at one point whom worked there and his customer service was outstanding so polite and courteous always!! : ) But now there is a older chinese lady who has taken his place and her customer service overall is awful but I will not get into that. My last visit to this restaurant was the last thanks to her and her nasty attitude this woman had the nerve to throw my receipt instead of handing it to me after I cheerfully paid for my meal, mind you Orient is pretty pricey. I tell you one thing I will take my hard earned money elsewhere this is not the only restaurant in NC and to be honest I have actually tasted much better!
Excellent first visit – This was our first time at the Orient Garden and it was EXCELLENT! I don't understand all the negative reviews for this place. Especially the imbeciles who rated it as "worst food ever" and then got their fill from McDonald's. McDonald's is disgusting and if you find yourself fulfilled by its fare, you have horrible taste and worthless opinions on cuisine. Eat your fastfood and spare the world your baseless opinions.
We are huge enthusiasts of Asian cuisine (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, etc.). We've eaten at countless Asian restaurants all over the country and we are not easy to please. For our first visit here, we were definitely impressed by the food. Wonton soup: very good; smooth broth; good garlic flavor; not too salty; wontons could have had more pork in them, but overall, it was above average. Crab Rangoons: EXCELLENT; crab rangoons are most often open-top pastry style with too little stuffing and overly sweet; these were ravioli style and generously stuffed with a very very tasty blend of cream cheese, ricotta, scallion, crab, and pepper; the pastry itself was crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and had a great sweet flavor. Sha Cha Beef: very good; beef was extremely tender; very generous mix of vegetables in the dish, and the veggies were firm, not overcooked and soggy as you see too often; sauce was mild and tasty; wasn't as spicy as we like and maybe could use a little flavor enhancement, but overall the dish was very good. Roast pork lo mein: ok; noodles were a little softer than they should be; green onion was the only veggie; roast pork was about average.
The service was also excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Don't listen to the negative reviews; try it and judge for yourself.
Worst Food EVER – We are not picky eaters, but Orient Garden left me wanting to hurl chunks in my plate. The meat was not cooked properly. The smells were strongly disgusting - even the packaged fortune cookie was bad. The blinds were dusty. The menus were antiquated. Nothing tasted right - the biggest waste of $30! After my nausea left me, i went to McDonald's.
best vegetarian options around – The name might sound like a hole-in-the-wall Chinese take-out place, but Orient Garden is amazing. I've been a vegetarian for six years and one of the major regrets I have is no longer being able to eat good Asian food, particularly General Tso's chicken. But Orient Garden has a variety of vegetarian options...including an amazing General Tso's tofu! Staff is friendly and very prompt and efficient.
worst asian food ever, they'll overcharge your card for tip....on carry out! – After visiting this joint, I went across my on line banking. And notice that after I took the time to pick up my order they went ahead and charge me $2.50 for tip. On a carry out. Not to mention the chicken wings where awfull.
food so-so, service bad – The popular food (sesame chicken, tofu) is ok, but the so called happy family, combos, are not good/fresh. The pork (red one) is not fresh, tasted like some leftover.
The service is not good, the waiter is quite rude. And it is NOT kids-friendly. And they added our 1.5 year old, who didn't eat anything, as one number and charge us 18% tips since we are party of 5!
So a quick takeout maybe fine here, but not recommended for families with young children, and don't try their pricey combo one (the one with beef/pork/chicken/shrimp all sorts vegetables) some ingredients are not fresh and with the very browny source, you can't tell!!
Bad Service – I went to get some good chinese food and I always get sesame chicken but this time I had wanted to try something new so I ordered sweet and sour chicken. When I got home I did not like the food. The rice tasted stale and the sweet and sour sauce tasted like water. I had 2 bites of my chicken and I couldnt eat it anymore. I paid $11 for my meal and I wanted to get my money back because it wasnt worth it. I drove all the way back and I explained to the manager that the food was not good and I was not happy. He started to raise his voice at me infront of other people and said he would not refund my money because I ate the chicken when I really only had 2 bites. He was arguing with me for about 5-10 mins until he refunded me only 6 bucks because I ate 2 bites of the chicken. I'm never going back because I got rude service. Who yells at a customer because they arent happy with there food?
Morrisville Location – Went in to order take out for lunch. Staff horrible and rude. Food was even worse - not worth the $6.03. General Tso's chicken was burnt. Would not "exchange" the lunch for a serving that wasn't burnt - said they would have to charge me another $6.00! Go down the road to Wok N Grille, spend less and get better tasting food.
Substitutions without warning – I ordered take-out from the Orient Garden's online menu, and chose the chicken with water chestnuts and snow peas. When I arrived to pay for it, I was told that they "no longer use water chestnuts" (in the Chicken with water chestnuts...?). Evidently they overlooked changing this in their online menu. I specifically ordered this because of the water chestnuts, and although they did offer to make me something else, I was taking part of the order to my sick daughter, so I didnt want to wait another 15 minutes. I think the right thing to do would be to tell people about this change when they order, instead of after they arrive and have to pay almost 10 dollars for the meal. At very least they should have cut the price on this meal for me.
Consistently Good Food, Quick Takeout – My family has been eating at Orient Garden for several years now. It's by far our favorite place to get takeout - no matter how busy the place gets, the takeout orders are always prepared quickly, fresh and hot. The menu has all of the usual standbys, well executed with fresh ingredients, plus a few tasty specialities.
My kids love Orient Garden so much that the youngest got nicknamed "Sesame Beef Man".
The only aspect I don't like is their usage of fake crabmeat (surimi) instead of real crab in seafood dishes. I say "hold the crab meat" rather than eat the stuff. Aside from that, it's all good, tasty, and fresh.
On the con side, it gets a little noisy and crowded inside when busy. An out-of-the-way waiting area for people picking up takeout would help, as would some noise-absorbing surfaces in the dining area.
