Candler Park staple is as quirky as its neighbors – Dr. Bombay’s is the kind of place where you can camp out with a coffee and your laptop, lose track of time and forget you’re not at home. The staff is consistently friendly, and the atmosphere is homey and quiet, except for the ‘50s music typically playing in the background. The windowed front allows for plenty of sunshine to flow, and in addition to the overflowing books that line the shelves, there’s always interesting local art adorning the walls. But if you’re looking for a serene workspace, clear out before 3:30 p.m. – that’s when high tea starts.

It’s $25 for 2 at the daily event (lasts until 5:30 p.m.), and tea enthusiasts get a full pot (the selection is huge) served with mini cupcakes or cookies, scones, imported Devonshire clotted cream and finger sandwiches.

And if it’s not tea-time that gets the place buzzing, it’s the kids that scramble in for scoops of ice cream after school.

One of the most delicious bites Dr. Bombay’s has to offer, however, is often overlooked amid its varied menu. It’s a hard to find item in Atlanta, but Dr. Bombay’s has literally perfected it: a soysage, egg and cheese biscuit.

Just the right amount of buttery greasiness gives this vegetarian-friendly version of the breakfast classic an almost overwhelming amount of tastiness in each mouthful. You want to eat it quickly because it’s so, so good – but you just don’t want it to be over. The ending is always bittersweet, and sometimes a little embarrassing when you can’t resist snatching up the last of the biscuit crumbs with your fingers. Pair the morning treat with any of Dr. Bombay’s coffee selections or a calming tea and you’ve got a scrumptious beginning to your day.
