Very disappointed in what used to be Environmental Builders Supply, turned Ecohaus, turned Green Depot.
This location is not a large store, but it used to be very friendly, very efficient, and very well stocked.
On the day that we visited (7/28/2012) there were four employees on the floor. Not one of them bothered to offer us any help, and when we finally did have a question we had to go searching for someone. It's not like they were overly busy. There was only one other customer in the store and she looked to be wandering around on her own as well.
The first employee couldn't answer our questions. Then we found out that they didn't have the items that we needed/wanted in stock. They were even out of YoLo eggshell paint. Seriously??? The paint is from a small local company and they were out of stock?
When we asked about the name change (no idea when it took place), we were told that "Green Depot is much bigger and better". Hmmm.....We had to ask for help. They were out of stock on everything we needed. Customer service was very poor.
Perhaps they need to be on the customer end of things before touting the benefits of "bigger and better".
Will we return? Possibly, but only if we can't find what we're looking for elsewhere. We certainly won't recommend the store to anyone. This is not the store it was when it was Environmental Builders Supply (or Ecohaus for that matter).
Horrible Sales Associate – My husband and I are remodeling some areas in our basement and we were really excited to get more information about Deco-Poz, the stains that go with it, the finishes, etc. We went to Ecohaus yesterday (10/29/11) morning and there were three sales attendants there. Two were busy helping other customers and one woman was sitting behind the counter checking out flooring samples. We sat down to ask her about the products (which we had already researched online for days) and all she could do was give us yes or no answers while she looked completely bothered by us and didn't want to look up from her flooring samples. She had no advice for us, clearly wanted us to leave the store and didn't even get up to show the products to us. We had no idea where the find them in the store and didn't want to wander around by ourselves, which is why we started speaking with her in the first place. I am really upset about this interaction because we had heard great things about Ecohaus and were really looking forward to using some of these products! We will now have to order them online, and I'll probably have to call companies over the phone and talk with sales associates because our local company couldn't even get off their butt to walk us to the aisle where the products were located, muchless answer any of our questions about them.
Definitely worth a visit if you are remodeling – I was very surprised to see some of the negative reviews of this place on Google...to the point where I almost didn't visit the store. Once inside, I found Craig and Greg in their paint department extremely helpful and knowledgeable and found their no-VOC paint very reasonably priced ($22/gal). I had my entire place painted and was able to sleep there the same night with no fumes at all.
I talked to Craig about their review situation & they've actually been under 2 management changes in the last couple of years...it's a shame that their old reviews didn't disappear with their old management. I would certainly recommend them to friends.
