This place is great, love the food. Atmosphere is a little different because of the remodeling, but I know that will be worth the wait!
Horrible – After waiting for 45 minutes for my food, it was just alright, nothing special. It wasn't busy at all either and it was just two of us. Not the best service and thought it was too expensive for the not so great food.
Excellent seasonal beer! – The everyday menu is just ok, not bad, usual pub food, pretty good but they often have seasonal food items to go with the seasonal beers and those are usually REALLY good! I had the schnitzel last night to go with the Rocktoberfest beer. It was delicious. My husband had the German mac and cheese and said it was really good also. We shared the seasonal dessert, sour cream apple pie which was really good too! I didn't even know they had pumpkin beer they were brewing there or I'd have gone earlier this month. I can't wait to go back and try that one!
The name said it all for this visit. – We were walking downtown Charlotte May 23 while waiting for our kid who was taking a class, and trying to find somewhere to eat. Saw Rock Bottom and the outdoor patio with open seats in the sun and decided that it looked nice, so we walked up. Upon entering, saw that the dining room and the bar. looked immaculate. We asked if we could sit in the sun--the host said sure, then sat us in the shade. Thus begins our rough meal.
After waiting 5-7 minutes for the server to greet us, he shows up, looking stressed. I assume he's overwhelmed, there's only 3 servers running all the tables on the patio area and theres a LOT of tables out there. My companion orders a sweet tea, and I order one of their beers, the stout, and we order the Jalapeno Spinach dip & chips. The dip had coagulated on the top a bit but was still a little warm, and some of the chips were not very crisp. We enjoyed it and just avoided the stale chips...flavor of the dip was pretty good.
For our entrees, I had the Hawaiian Chicken with an added side salad, and she had the Gorgonzola Pear Salad. Mine was fine, good for the price and tasted as it should, but my side salad never came. The green beans as a side were excellent. Her salad however, came out with a good bit of wilted lettuce. Normally we'll pick out a few pieces and not sweat it, but there was a good amount. We alerted our server who took the salad, (we kept the chicken and just asked for new greens...she placed her chicken on my plate). When the manager brought us a new plate of greens tossed in balsamic, she of course checked it for wilting. When she did, there were tiny pieces of breading and chicken in that plate of greens (her chicken was still on my plate). The manager came out and apologized, never gave his name, and offered dessert. The server apologized a few times as well.
I hope that this was a bad day for them and not indicative of their normal operation. I had high hopes as I perused the menu, all the items described sounded delicious, but it doesn't look like management pays attention to what comes out of the kitchen. After this experience though, and spending $40 on a below average meal(we tipped 8 on the 32 left from the beer, tea, app, and my food) and the nonchalant handling of the issue from the manager, I don't think I'll be visiting this restaurant again.
Good food. Okay beer – It's funny that most of the reviews for this restaurant are all for food. Despite brewing their own beer, the brew pub has no beers that are unique, and sought after. I love to see the beer scene coming to charlotte, and recommend you try this place out especially if you are new to craft beer. But for craft beer enthusiasts, the beer may disappoint. I would like to see some mix up of the beer selection...special seasonals would be nice.
Wonderful any season – I go to Rock Bottom at least once every other month, and many times reccommend it for special occasions. Everything that I have ever ordered was amazing. Their artichoke dip is amazing for an appetizer and their pasta dishes are awesome to follow with. Their chocolate extasy cake is the best chocolate cake in the city. I love this place.
Average fare – We visited RBB for lunch and ordered regular sandwiches. The fare was average and nothing on the menu worth mentioning about. The service was below average as I had ordered a soup that I did not like and they never bothered to replace it with another option.
the most amazing pizza on this planet – mmmmm.....good! Order one of the homemade pizza and your mouth will water for hours afterwards. From the sauce, to the toppings to the crust...it all came together for a mouth-pleasing experience. Try the asiago cheese pizza with onions. OMG! I was coming all over myself.
Editorial Review – Hitting Bottom isn't just a weekend retreat for beer, it's also a great place for burgers.
Best Hamburger! – Truly the best hamburger I've ever tasted. Complimented by their savory white cheddar mashed potatoes and locally brewed beer.
The meat was very tender (medium rare) in addition to the extreme pure ripeness of lettuce leaves & tomatoes to splurge on it.
This venue has great value, knowledgeable waitstaff and a pleasantly appealing atmosphere to enjoy a nice meal in.
