Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad! – I can't believe that there is a single good review of this place on this forum. Everything that the negative reviews have to say is 100% correct especially regarding the hostesses and terrible service. The sushi is average and waaaay overpriced for what you get. Don't even get me started on the owner. I recomend not going here unless you are into social masochism.
Don't go to Nikko unless you want to get frustrated – I have been the new Nikko several times and have been more disappointed with each and every visit. I really like the idea of this place and at one time was hopeful that they could get thier act together. Just when I think the experience can't get any worse, I am shown a new low in customer service and arrogance. The average quality sushi, overpriced and watered down drinks, snobby hostesses and slow service is only outdone by the insanely narcissistic and irritating owner Joanna. If you don't believe me you can check out the not so subtle 6 foot portrait of herself that impossible to miss on your way back to the bathrooms. This is probably the most tacky (and telling) decoration of any restaurant in Charlotte. I absolutely love sushi, however I have decided to never go to Nikko again because of the horrible attitude that resignates from the staff
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER – The management of this place clearly doesn't care about their patrons. They decided to put on a 'fashion show' at 8:00 on a Wednesday and not allow our server to bring us food or drinks during the 30 minute show. The manager actually yelled at our waiter for trying to bring us the drinks we ordered, and yelled at me for trying to return from the bathroom during a 'tango demonstration.' This is after I paid over $30 for my meal. They did not mention that any of these events were going on while we were there, and other customers were clearly confused about what was going on. Although the sushi is always good, it is not worth trying to fight with the management for a decent experience. Rusan or Sushi 101 are a much better bet for your money.
Food good, service bad – I visited this restaurant this weekend to celebrate my friends b-day and we did not have a great experience. It all started when we arrived and there was an hour and half wait after we were told we didn't need a reservation. They told us there was no wait if we sat outside or in the bar area. They were going to align 3 high tables for dinner for a party of eight? How comfortable would that be? So we decided to sit on outside on patio. They put together two tables, which were uneven and wobbly. We brought this to their attention and they advised that they would bring another table, but never did. The owner decided to bring over a table napkin to balance the table?? Very unprofessional in my opinion. The night only went down from there. The waitress was too busy taking care of tables on the inside to take care of us. She only took out orders and never returned to refill drinks or ask how our meals were. One friend was not pleased with her meal and another found a hair in her meal, so we asked for the manager. He came over and basically said that the one friend had to pay for her meal and the other meal with the hair would be taken off. He later changed his mind and decided she had to pay after they took her plate away. He didn't even offer replace the meals. Then had the audacity to ask us to never come back again. Well, he doesn't have to worry about that. I would rather spend my money at a restaurant with better service that appreciates my business.
Don't waste your time or your money on a place that obviously doesn't want it. – If great customer service is important to you, Nikkos is not the place to get it. My girlfriends and I were celebrating a birthday this past Saturday & were treated like we smelled bad from the moment we walked in the door. The HOstess greeted us w/ such distain as if we ruined her night by coming to her place of business. She argued w/ my friend about getting a table b/c we didn't have a reservation (which we were told we didn't need when we called 4 hours before arriving) and then proceeded to ignore us as we sat in the waiting area while other patrons passed us and were seated. We were given a table outside which we didn't want but hunger was taking over & we needed to eat. Once seated, we waited for at least 15 or 20 minutes for everyone to receive water in which the glasses were never refreshed all evening even after our meals arrived. Four of us placed orders for appetizers which arrived quickly but the waitress had to ask who they belonged to as if she hadn't just taken our orders (ignoramus). She was more concerned with who was going to pay for a bottle of wine that we ordered as if we didn't have money (how rude). Some little hobbit in a cowboy hat (the owner I presume) came to our table making all kinds of noise like we were at a 12 year olds birthday party and then she turned the music up so loud we couldn't hear our neighbors at the same table speaking. There is so much more I could say but I digress. I have never in my life received such poor service at any restaurant. I've had better experiences at McDonald's and it didn't cost me $35.87. People, don't waste your time or your money b/c Nikko's obviously doesn't care about satisfying their patrons unless your an under age female at the bar drinking until she's falling off the barstool.
Horrible Customer Service – Continued from below review:
I ordered the chicken and shrimp but didn't receive my full portion of chicken. In addition I found a hair in my food. Luckily the bus boy was standing there when I found it or I am sure the management would say I was lying. When the manager came out he said there was no problem with taking my food off because he SAW the hair in it, but he wouldn't take my friend's off because it was half eaten (She ate 3 shrimp). He then disappeared and never game back. He were pretty upset that he was telling her she had to pay for something she didn't like or eat for that matter. When the server finally brought our checks mine still had the entree listed on it. I told her it didn't belong to me and she went back in to the manager. She came out and said it was correct he said he wasn't taking it off. I went in to speak with him and he was VERY rude. Stating that he was not taking it off, I had no choice but to pay etc. I asked him why would he do that after he admitted to seeing the hair and taking the food away. He said he wasn't taking it off PERIOD. I continued to argue with him in front of all the other patrons that were there. He finally spoke to the manager and she said fine she doesn't have to pay for it tell them to never come back here again. He proceeded to ball up the receipt in my face and tell me to leave and never come back.
It was the WORST service I have EVER received in Charlotte, or ANYWHERE for that matter. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. Please save your money and spend it somewhere that cares about their guests and how they feel.
Horrible Customer Service – I visited Nikko on Saturday for night out on the town with the girls Nikko's being our first stop. BIG MISTAKE! We arrived with a party of six and with the level of service we received you would have thought we were a party of 16...The place was packed so the fact that we would have to wait a little while was understandable and obviously that is the ONLY thing I understand about that night. After reluctantly taking a table outside we were seated with two tables that had been pushed together which was fine. However the tables did not fit, one was smaller than the other one and obviously a table that they didn't use much because it was very wobbly. We asked the manager that sat us and he offered to bring us another table which he promised to do. We would soon come to find out that was not the only promise he wouldn't hold to that night. We waited a very long time for drinks, all of which consisted of waters, the only thing complicated about that was 5 of them wanted lemon and I didn't, of course mine still had the lemon when it came. The owner came out to check on us and early on we let her know how we were feeling...about sitting outside as well as the table etc. To fix the table she stuffed a napkin under the leg which didn't make it much better. To make us feel better about being outside she tried to blast the music so I guess we would feel we were inside. We asked that they turn the volume back where it was. It was obvious that she was not going to handle any requests or make our evening more enjoyable.
After about an hour we finally had our orders taken and we thought that things would run smooth from there on out. Our server passed out about two of the dishes and the bus boy handled the rest. We didn't see the server again after that. None of us had drinks left in our glasses. One of the girls was dissatisfied with her food and wanted to complain early on however there was no one to complain to.
Best Sushi Restaurant in Charlotte – Nikko's was the first restaurant I ate at when I was looking to move to Charlotte and now is one of my favorite places to eat in Charlotte. Yes, they are busy. Yes, you will have to wait for a table (sometimes even if you have reservations) Yes, it will take a little while to get your food. But that is because there are always so many people there. The food is worth the wait, and the scene is just fun to hang out in. It's a great place to have a drink and check out the fashion. The owner, Joanna, is a trip and she will come out and sing and dance with everyone. Also make sure to order the Saki Bomb's, just be sure to wait for Joanna!!! This is not a restaurant you go to have a quick bite at, and not the place to go if you are expecting to have someone fill up your water every three seconds. It's just a great hip hang out with great atmosphere and great food.
The WORST customer service – After cancelling dinner reservations at Mimosa's for a party of 8 because Nikkos had been highly recommended to me I feel so let down. I called ahead of time to inquire about a reservation for my party of 8. I was told that I did NOT need a reservation as long as I arrived prior to 9pm. My party and I arrived at 8oclock promptly, only to find out we needed a reservation or we could wait for an hour or so...did I mention I was celebrating my birthday and this upset me b/c we were starving and ensured there would be NO wait before 9!! After going back and forth with the hostess as well as the manager, they were able to accomodate us outside on the patio which was ok prior to sitting down. We were seated with 3 menu's for 8 people, nor was our table stable, it was rocking back and forth. We called the manager over and she came outside looking like bozo the clown, oops did I say that, anyhow, she placed a napkin under our table to enforce it. It only gets worse....we were finally greeted by our waitress and we all asked for water. It took her all of 20 minutes or so to return with our WATER. We then asked for a bottle of wine, she asks us who will be paying for the wine...so inappropriate. We order appetizers and ask for condiments to accompany them, we are still waiting. My food was excellent, however not everyone at the table was pleased. My one friend found hair in her food and another simply was not satisfied. When we spoke with the manager not only was he arrogant and condesending he was rude beyond measure. I have NEVER experienced such bad service nor the level of disrespect from a manager. I always assumed that managers make their guest happy in most situations..that was far from the case. I will NEVER visit this place again and I urge others to be aware of hairs in their food and the crapppy service that most seem to receive based on reading other reviews.
worst service EVER!! – As a visitor to Charlotte this is the WORST dining experience i have EVER had anywhere! My girlfriends and i went out to celebrate a birthday. After being seated out on the patio we were ignored and had to wait over 20 minutes just to put in our drink orders. Our server then had the audacity to ask which one of us was planning to pay for the bottle of wine we ordered! When we finally recieved our meal the server never came back to check on us! We had to flag down a bus boy to ask for a manager! My Teriyaki dish that should have been served warm was cold! and my rice was mushy like mashed potatoes! and one of my friends found a hair in her food! The manager was even worse than the server, he was totally rude and unapologetic! He did not apologize for our bad experience and informed me that my food looked half eaten so he was not willing to do anything about the fact that it was cold &terrible! They took my friends' plate and didnt bother to bring her another meal and had the nerve to expect her to pay for it! When we pressed the issue and asked for the owner the manager then informed us that we needed to just pay our tabs and leave! and not ever come back to eat there!! I guess since they are currently a hot spot they can pick & choose whose money is important and whose money they can do without! I wouldn't even reccomend this place to my worst enemy! nobody deserves that! save your money and eat at a japanese takeout in the food court at the mall! the only good thing about this place was the DJ spinning that night!
