My first trip to a Cajun restaurant – This was my first visit ever to a Cajun restaurant, so I can say nothing about authenticity. I will say that my chicken étouffée was delicious and reasonably priced. It was very spicy, as the menu indicated it would be. I would have preferred some side dish to have been included, not just rice. Dishes of other diners looked very good but similarly sparse, like the blackened catfish next to me which had two fillets on the plate and a decorative lemon, but nothing else. I'll go back.
been going here ever since they opened.
i love everything about the cajun queen.
whenever i have family in town i take them out here for a great time!
I've loved this place for 20 years – My family and I have been going to the Cajun Queen since 1990. Tim has always gone the extra mile to make our dinner a great experience. The BBq shrimp are the best in the land and the fried oysters are to die for.
We sometimes sit with the music and other times on the beautiful patio. When I got laid off a few years back Tim even bought my dinner. This is a special place.
I would recommend this place to EVERYBODY!!
Poor customer relations! – My choir reserved a week ahead of time an area near the band upstairs. When the 10 of us arrived a few minutes early, we were told by the hostess that there was a little "glich". We were informed that another group was in our reserved area and they wouldn't be finished for awhile. We were asked to wait at the bar or to sit downstairs at a table by the fireplace instead. We said that wasn't satisfactory and asked for the manager. Tim arrogantly informed us that he was the manager and the owner and what would we want him to do? We said we should have the space we reserved or at least some concession while we waited such as complimentary bar drinks. We were then told that if the party in our places took over a half hour, he would consider it-but suggested again that we take the downstairs area. Since we chose this restaurant because of the music we then left and went to another restaurant where we were treated with respect. We saw a limosine waiting as we left and felt that either this group had lots of money or some other advantage over us. Our church family and friends will not patronage Cajun Queen from now on!
Good place on occasion – The Canjun Queen is set in an old house and the atmoshpere does take you to another place. The tables are somewhat close so you are eating with strangers right next to you and in your conversation. The server was not able to fit inbetween the tables to the left or right of ours and had to serve from behind me, so initamcy is not available. The food was freshly prepared, but the Chef does not need to be so cautious with using salt and pepper as everything did lean to the bland side. One real critique I feel would be the Gumbo. Gumbo should be rich and thick with depth, this Gumbo was very thin and tomato-boullion like. It was fresh tasting but not the deep, rich taste I know Gumbo should be. The Shrimp and Grits were good but Creole sauce was tastelss. Despite the food being less than what expected, my wife and I liked this place and will return.
Great place for something different – This is a restaurant where you hang out after your meal is long over and enjoy the atmosphere and live music. Fabulous establishment with a friendly staff. Sunday brunch is my favorite!!!!!!!
Fried Green Tomato's were very tasty – Upstairs is buzzing and band adds flair. I plan to go sunday with the family for the sunday brunch.
Great Food, Great Outdoor Patio – Had a great experience my fist time at the Queen of Cajun. I had the Bayou Platter and my girlfriend had the Etouffee. Both were excellent but I especially liked the blackened seasoning on the chicken and catfish mine came with. From what I heard the Etouffee is one of the most popular on the menu so you can't go wrong with either one.
Overall, I will def return and recommend.
One of the best in Charlotte – The band is great but can be overpowering if you are right in front of them. I have had numerous items on the menu and have never had one dish that did not exceed my expectations. The BBQ Shrimp app is a MUST. I dont even care if they put the shrimp in, the sauce and bread are the best. you will get a different atmosphere and food quality is as good if not better that locations like del frisco.
By Far- My favorite restaurant in Charlotte! – A mere 3 1/2 years ago, I was brought to Cajun Queen on a date. Since, this restaurant has been a favorite of mine. I love the atmosphere; always sitting upstairs! The jazz band provides fabulous live entertainment. However, I would advise sitting across the room is you are planning on having a quite conversation. Their is usually a wait and the bar upstairs provides great drinks to sip on while listening to jazz and waiting to be seated. The food is absolutely amazing. I have had many items off the menu, but usually order off the specials. If you haven't tried Cajun Queen- you are definitely missing out on one of Charlotte's best kept little secrets. Great dining with a group, on a date, or as a business dinner.
