Bad Customer Service – I have always heard that La-Tea-Da's had amazing food, so when it was time for my fiance and I to choose a caterer, we automatically assumed that we would end up going with them. After my inital phone call, they were pretty quick to get us in the door and do a small tasting and discuss menu options. Because of our small wedding and small wedding budget, I was very open and honest with them about how we couldn't budge on our budget. They told us that it would be difficult to meet our needs with our budget, but said they could work with us. (on a side note, during our meeting the owner told a story about how her staff member we were working with had recently blown some people out of the water with thier pricing and how she had to step in to make changes-looking back, we should have taken the hint)

When we received our proposed menu, it was double, LITERALLY DOUBLE, what our budget was. When I called to talk to Leah, the girl who was "helping us," to ask how we could lower the cost, she suggested removing soda ($100), removing coffee ($40) and that was it. When I asked if anything else could be done she said verbatium "Well, I guess you will have to cut your guest list, but it is already so small." I was so offended! What a horrible thing to say. As a good business woman, she should have told us from the start that they would not be able to accommodate our budget, not hit us with a doubled price tag and suggest us to cut our "already small" guest list.

Since this incident, we have spoken with lots of other people who have had their own horror stories about La-Tea-Da's customer service.

The owner did step in to cut the cost by $1000, but by then it was too late. We took our business elsewhere, and we could not be happier with they way we have been treated by Delectables by Holly.

I have never written a rewiew before, but this has prompted me to share my story to save those of you that are paying for your own weddings.

AWFUL SERVICE...STAY AWAY – The service received from the owner Janet would make anyone’s skin crawl. If you don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on your event then she will make you feel the worst you have ever felt. She is rude, condescending, obnoxious, loud person who lacks tact. I am not one to write reviews but the service received by this women needs to be shared. And if by this review I can save you from the awful experience in which I have faced then this was worth it. Brides your wedding will be one of the best experiences in your life and please don’t waste any of these moments with a vendor like this. There are plenty of vendors in Charlotte that will be excited for you and want to do whatever it takes to make your day special. La Tea Das is not one of them so as I said in the title...STAY AWAY!

Ooh-La-Las, New Owners and Wonderful Experience‎ – Ooh-La-Las formerly La-Tea-Das.

I have been there a few times with friends recently and each time was very impressed. "A Victorian feel. Fresh food. Great service. The cook even came out to greet us and see if everything was to our liking. The food was so fresh that I had to let her know. The perfect place to go with friends for tea, sandwiches, quiche, scones, fruit salad etc..." I loved it so much I returned with my little girl whom they treated like royalty filling her tea pot with lemonade and gave her dress up clothes to wear for her tea time with mommy. What a great experience and wonderful new owners.

OK food but no reason to bother for small groups – I took my friend from out of town for high tea on a Friday, with a reservation (you have to make one, choose tea or high tea ahead of time, and confirm with a credit card). The food was OK-good: butterscotch scone with lemon curd, cucumber sandwich (odd taste), chicken salad on mini croissant, 3 hot puffs - crab cake, chicken cordon bleu & one other (these were good), very spicy pimento cheese in crispy phyllo cup, generous fruit plate, slice of cake (so so) and a plate of mini desserts - 2 cream puffs (yuck), strawberry (bitter), lemon something (very tart), chocolate pecan thing (awful) - we didn't eat the dessert, but I left full so can't complain. One small teapot no refill, $18 per person.

The location was so-so (love the old house, no ambiance in the room where we were - with the bathroom and across from the waitress station at the foot of the stairs). There were several large groups there at the time so we were in a side room with another pair of ladies having lunch We had no choice of food, no idea what course or food was coming until the end (the waitress did finally speak and say there were 2 dessert courses), and they served EVERY COURSE except the dessert on the same plate. Ew! Since the waitress barely talked to us I was glad they didn't add the 18% gratuity automatically like they threaten on their web site. Tea was only available in bags. This might be OK for large groups, I can see that's their focus (front room and 2nd floor & served different food), but I wouldn't bother otherwise. Although the pair who came for lunch (stuck right next to the bathroom and in a corner) and my friend seemed happy enough (at least we got a window), I prefer a menu, loose tea, great atmosphere, and service and there was none of that.

Fabulous Catering! – I have been a client of La-tea-da's for many years, use them at least 8 times a year for large corporate events and weekly for smaller events, and they have alway done an exceptional job. In the past year they have moved their catering business to 115 W. 7th Street, and focus on lunch and tea parties at their Elizabeth location on 7th Street. There focus is on catering and providing excellent service. They recently installed a new computer system which will help them fine tune their internal and external information. I thoroughly enjoy working with Janet, Chrys and their staff, and never think twice about who I am going to call for events ranging from breakfasts and luncheons to corporate socials or sit down dinners. The food is always wonderful, as well as the unique presentation and attention to detail.

None of the experience was good – I am planning my wedding. I went and met with the owner about them being my caterer. When I was a bit early she expressed to her assistant that I would only be in her way so I needed to sit outside the office. The first question she asked was "what do you picture your wedding like" and I said a fun party. The answer I got was "well then get a wedding planner". I then thought that she was there to get as much money as she could. The meeting was very rushed with people coming in and out the whole time talking about other events. She packed up a quick meal for me which I will say was very good. However the food is not worth working with the auttitude and bad communication. She had great ideas and I wanted to use her, but I didn't know how when no phone calls where returned. And all I got where emails with empty promises. If you have twenty grand or so to drop I know that she will give you service but it will still come with the price of bad service. I would go without food at my wedding before I let her have my buisness.

Waste of time! – No returned calls. Promised a proposal on several occasions and never heard anything back. Seems that they will get back to you if you're budget doesn't have a limit. My fiancee' booked a bridal luncheon with them but changed her mind when they would not get back to us on catering the wedding. When she called to cancel & explained why, because of their lack of response & concern, they didn't seem to care one bit & she was told "things happen where they don't work out".

Whatever that means, I guess they don't need the business so I wouldn't encourage anyone to give it to them. There are plenty of other caterers in Charlotte that respect your business & get back to you in a timely manner. Call them instead!

Great food and atmosphere, terrible customer service – I have been to LaTeaDas in the past for a baby shower, and had a fantastic time. When I decided to host one for a friend LaTeaDas was my first choice. I had a great first conversation, and was given the details of how the process worked. Everything from that point forward was unpleasant. I was promised emails which I had to call several times over a couple weeks to receive. When trying to finalize, I waited 2 weeks for a contract to be emailed. On my second non-returned call, I got someone on the phone. When I expressed my concern over the service, I was told I would have a great event, but there was nothing they could to do improve my service, and if I was unhappy, I could take my business elsewhere. Which I promptly did, and in 2 days had a confirmed, fully booked event at Providence Cafe.

Incredibly Rude Customer Service – Hoping to set up a tea with some girlfriends, I just called La-Tea-Da's to get the hours of operation. A very curt woman quickly informed me that if I wanted to know the hours of operation, there were "signs on the building" and then she promptly hung up on me.

So, let me get this straight--I'm supposed to DRIVE to this place and peer at a sign to get information that is in her head??

This exchange hardly evoked the peace, calm and tranquility that I was looking for in afternoon tea.

Rather than drive across town to get such rudimentary information, I decided to take my tea (and my money) elsewhere and spend my time writing this review.
