LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! – I initially visited the Buttercup because a friend of mine recommended them for wedding menu cards and programs. As soon as my mother and I entered the shop, we were warmly greeted and the staff made us to feel extremely welcomed.
The ladies upstairs in the stationery department were extremely helpful and willing to answer my multitude of questions! I ordered menu cards for my wedding, and I can not express how great they turned out! My guests are going to be so impressed! I also ordered wedding programs and Caroline was so patient and helpful in making sure that the programs turned out exactly how I envisioned.
I would definitely recommend the Buttercup to anyone with any stationery needs! They are very friendly and helpful, and made the stress of wedding planning a little more bearable!
Weird/Stale Vibe – Recently I visited The Buttercup to get an idea of whether or not I would prefer them for creating my wedding invitations.
As I entered the store, two employees behind the counter were having a conversation. Though one of them looked up at me, neither said hello, and they continued their discussion. I walked right past them upstairs on my own; it was honestly a chilly feeling! Still, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt--maybe they were unhappy with something that had happened in the store, or I'd come in at a "bad time." As I said, I went upstairs, where I've read they keep their fine stationery/invitations.
Once I made it upstairs, I was quickly greeted. I was glad not to be ignored! The woman who helped me was quick to set me up with three or four large binders full of invitation samples. She left me to browse and I appreciated being able to take my time.
I was a little uncomfortable because the table upon which she set the binders is literally in the middle of a very closed-in space. I was surrounded on all sides by four close walls of invitations and people walking around. It was definitely not a "personal" experience--I was glad I didn't bring my mother there. I was never offered a seat, so took one on my own. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like having people constantly walking and lingering immediately behind me--maybe if you go and see for yourself you'll know what I mean.
I can't really say anything negative about the staff working upstairs--I mean, they did their job. I couldn't be that specific on my vision because I was just getting ideas and really just wanted to figure out if I liked the vibe in there or not. I think that the best I can say was that there was just something weird about the whole experience, as if it was missing a genuine sense of care or concern for me as a customer (and new bride). I didn't feel excited to be there, and I've felt excited about everything so far. I didn't feel they were happy to have me in the store, and honestly I felt as if my energy level/enthusiasm was too much for the whole upstairs.
I left feeling weird--WAS it just me? I also left feeling certain that I wouldn't be giving The Buttercup my business. I want to get my invitations from somewhere FUN! :)
Good invitations as well as neat gifts – I really like Buttercup and always buy my invitations from them. I usually buy the paper and print them myself, but if you want them to print for you, it's only around $1 more per invite.
I also really like the downstairs and go there frequently for bridal and baby shower gifts. Everything is quite unique and girly cute. The staff is polite and knowledgeable about their products.
First in Charlotte for rude sales people – Shopping for wedding invitations should be a positive experience. That is not what happened when I went to the Buttercup. I went upstairs to their invitation showroom and waited 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge me. There were 5 or 6 older ladies sitting around drinking tea and gossiping. Finally one of them called from the other side of the room, "Did you want something?" I responded, "Yes, wedding invitations." She pointed to the wall. She never got up and they continued to gossip. Obviously they had poor upbringing to be that rude.
Best Custom Invitation/Stationery Design in Charlotte – I had the best experience at the Buttercup. The staff was so helpful and the graphic designers came up with a beautiful custom Save the Date for me. There is so much to choose from and I was excited to know that custom designs are available! I will definitely be shopping there again!
Great paper! – I was referred here from "Paper Twists" because they didn't have what I needed. Both places were great. We found loads of paper on sale and Shannon was very helpful, as was another woman. They were super tolerant of our annoyance with one another and were helpful! I don't know about their printing, as I just got paper.
Not a good experience – I went into the Buttercup to look for invitations, menu cards, programs, etc for my wedding. I sat down for a full 10 minutes before I was greeted, while the workers lounged around. I actually got up and got a binder myself. As I started to look through it, a worker came up and said she was going to need it in a minute. EXCUSE ME! I was the only customer in the store!!!!!!!!!! Finally, someone said hi and asked what I was looking for. I told her. She said "I would really want Vera Wang" and took my binder away and shoved the Vera Wang one in front of me. I didn't want Vera Wang - it's not the price - I just don't like her designs! After telling this to the woman over and over I became exasperated. Finally, I found one I liked and went up to the counter to ask a question. A worker, who was on a PERSONAL PHONE CALL behind the counter, actually held her finger up in my face and continued on with her conversation!!!!!!!!
My invitation/printed product budget was about $2,000. Guess how much business these people got. $0!!!!!!!
They have a great selection but need to fire their staff.
Poor customer service – I have ordered invitations from the Buttercup several times. Not anymore! I attempted to order shower invitations recently and had to proof the final product multiple times. In the end, they still weren't right. As a working woman, I don't have time to visit the Buttercup fifty times to make sure everything is centered and the font is consistent. Not to mention grammar! These are not difficult concepts. For the prices you pay and the way you are treated, it is better to take your business elsewhere.
Get Your invitations elsewhere! – While the Buttercup had a fantastic inventory, the quality of work and the level of customer service was well below average in my opinion. I ordered invitations and directional cards from the Buttercup and I could have not been more unhappy with the result and the process. I created the wording for the invites and cards and gave that to them when placing my order. This could not have been easier, but for some reason, it took three separate trips to the store to proof and re-proof the work. The first proof had a blatant spelling error and the second was not even centered. I was frustrated that the store actually called me in to proof work that was obviously incomplete. Each time, the staff could not have been ruder.
I recommend skipping this store. There are a lot more places in Charlotte with more competent people and better prices.
Awful service – I went to The Buttercup recently to look for save-the-dates for my wedding and was honsetly angry when I left. The staff completely ignored me for at least 5 minutes at first (as if I was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman). I finally hounded an associate to help me, but she was clearly annoyed that I, a customer, would want her help. She simply gave me 1 binder to look through and then walked away. When I tracked her down again, she pointed out 2 cards that were exactly the opposite of what I told her I was looking for and then she disappeared again. I left and will never go back.
