Love Sundries, Great new changes!!! – the new ownership and menu are fantastic!! same great location!! some things never change!! in the heart of myers park there is a wonderful family restaraunt with a fun bar on the other side. clean restrooms, friendly wait staff, great food, very affordable, many tvs with all the sports you could want. plus video games for adults and kids. we were pleasently surprised! we will go back!
Y'all meet me at Sundries – It's true, it's a new day at Providence Road Sundries. The woman's bathroom no longer has a Beatles collage on the walls (complete with beads and silk flowers at one point), and the "dining" side of the joint has gone through more changes than a pop star trying to revive a career by shaving her head and going into rehab. But folks - it's still Sundries, good ole reliable chicken fried steak on Thursdays and some of the best chilli in town Sundries, even with the gozillion new TV screens and routine changeover of video games. Where else can you sit at the same booth where you dad sat (or your friend's dad, or at least for sure SOMEBODY'S dad), order from a menu that feels like a part of your DNA, and look across the street at one of Charlotte's oldest neighborhoods, whether for an hour or an afternoon with friends? Wait staff will go through changes, particularly when there's a new owner in town, but the kids in place now are doing a great job of knowing folks when they come in the door and taking care of everybody pretty well, if the raucous laughter from the back of the bar and all the families on the dining side are any indication. I sort of wonder if I should post this - nobody gets my booth.
What has happened to this place?!? – I agree with most of the recent reviews; What happened to Providence Rd Sundries? I have been going to this place and loving it for 15 years. I had not been in a couple of months and went recently (10/19/08) with some out-of-town friends expecting the usual great service and food. I will not be returning. The place was not at all packed. We were told to sit wherever and did. We waited a good ten minutes before we were approached by a waiter. We all got beers and water. Beers came, water, after several inquiries, never did. Got the Queso dip as an app. It arrived, but napkins did not until the THIRD time we asked. Queso tasted like it was from Food Lion and there was an amazingly small amount of tortilla chips... Asked for more, never got them. Ordered food. I got what used to be the French dip, but is now the Roast Beef dip. My fellow patrons got a salad and a burger. Roast beef arrived without the French dip part. When I got the au ju, it was as salty as sea water. Little more than a dissolved bouillon cube. So things were bad. We then found a dead fly in the salad my friend ordered. After pointing out the DEAD FLY the salad was comped but by that point the fly, the service, and the food had become a huge joke. What the hell happened to Providence Rd. Sundries?!?!?!
What Happened – I have been going here for years. What happened? It used to be good food and portions at good prices. I've heard the new owner had alot to do with this. He has seemed to forgotten about customer loyalty and simple food service industry managment . From speaking to his employees he isn't much more than a penny pinching imbescile. He has raised the prices on all of the beers and cocktails along with the food while cutting pour size and food portions. I've overheard that all the employes have to park far away and walk to the establishment and back late at night even if they are female. It may be in a nice part of Charlotte but still things can happen. This new owner and feel in the place has saddened me. I used to love this bar now coming here is almost a chore.
going down – new owner is ruining this place. upped the prices, cut the portions, is buying cheaper and smaller wings and tenders. many of the regulars that have been coming for years are no longer there. he is playing easy listening music and tells customers when he doesn't like their jukebox selections and they can't play that kind of music in there, he will give their money back. seems as if he doesn't want the younger bar crowd, but instead wants a pub for the older crowd. he also has people behind the bar that don't have a clue what they are doing. they can't even make a margarita and become confused when there are more than 7 people at the bar. there are still a few good things about the place, but they probably won't last to much longer since the owner is such a cheapskate.
most "Cheers"like bar in Charlotte – Probably the best food in Charlotte for a place that many people think of as just a bar. It's so much more than just your typical bar menu, and everything I have ever tried is sensational. They have a great internet juke box, good beer selection, and the staff is the best. It's the closest thing to a "Cheers" type bar that I have found in Charlotte. How many other places have been around under the same name for almost 75 years? I absolutely love this place...
THE Restaurant – I unsuspectingly walked into this restaurant about a year ago and I and the restaurant have been inseperable since. There are a wide variety of choices such as the PRS burger and the Patty Melt. My personal favorite is the chicken tender basket, a very simple yet heavenly dish. The appetizers are, well, very appetizing. The onion rings and the mozzarella sticks are like the rumble before the earthquake, symbolically of course. I have never had dessert at the Sundries but I once caught sight of a sundae and man did it look good. The service is excellent as the waiters and waitresses make you feel right at gome. Hope that you get the waiter Ebbi for his flawless service exemplifies the greatness that the Sundries has come to define.
Not very good – I have been to a few of the other Sundries and thought that this one would be good too but it was not. There was a total of 10 people in the whole restaurant and after eating there I know why, the food was not good. I am not sure if each restaurant is owned by a different person but this one makes the others look BAD!
A pleasantly hard-to-describe combination of neighborhood pub, sports bar and family meeting place. – Split Personality
Tucked to the side of Providence Road, the Sundries is one of those low-profile places you might easily pass by. Once you find it, though, you'll wonder how you missed it. Part neighborhood pub, sports bar and family meeting place--"established before you were born," according to the servers' T-shirts--the Sundries defies categorization.
Groups of friends and children arriving after soccer games, or couples grabbing a quick bite to eat. The bar is happily busy after work as business-types stop for a brew on the way home.
Above-average pub fare: sandwiches, killer burgers, fantastic chili and excellent wings served with blue cheese in a container that's wide enough for wing-dipping (the mark of a place that truly understands its wings).
Not too shabby... – Other than a strange musty oder, Providence Sundries was a pleasant experience. Service was exceptional, the buffalo chicken sand. was a little weak but what they lack in quality they make up in quantity. You get a lot.
