Best Chicken Pad Thai in Charlotte – I'm no Thai food expert by any means but I try the chicken pad thai at every restaurant that serves it. As of April 20th, 2010, Thai House takes the lead! I've been two nights in an row and thinking about it again tonight. Also very impressed with the friendly staff and great service....go check em out!
They Overcharge – This place has pretty good food and fair service but they will overcharge you and say that it is tax. They have overcharged me several times and gotten away because I was too nice to ask and felt uncomfortable. But since it has happened several times, I definitely will not go back. Both Thai House and Bangkok Ocha overcharge. Do they think people are stupid? I have ordered VEG. curry from lunch to go, $7.95 nothing else and my total was $9.78. NC tax is 8.25% for food which should of been 0.66 cents, my total should of been $8.61. It doesn't sound too much less from $9.78 but still is not right and they have done this to me several times. I definitely will never go back. I will be going to Deejai thai restaurant on providence when I am in the mood for Thai even when I have to drive farther. I hope the owners of Thai House and Bangkok Ocha read this and stop OVERCHARGING people. IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT!
Average Thai Restaurant, might go back – Ok, I'll admit that I know Thai food fairly well.
I've been to Thailand several times and even took a Thai cooking class.
My Pad Thai is better than theirs.
I know what is missing from theirs. Namely, fresh peppers and lemongrass/lime and quite possibly fish sauce (at the least).
So it's weak on the sour/pungent scale in thai cooking.
It was also a bit heavy on the thai chili sauce you can buy in the Mae Sri bottle for $1.50.
That's the easy way out in cooking pad thai. I know because I do it when I don't have the right ingredients.
It's a bit like smothering meatloaf with ketchup when
you do that.
Other than that, it was prepared well enough with fresh ingredients and with a nice consistency for the noodles, just an extremely unbalanced flavor.
I told them I was familiar with Thai food and ordered it medium hot and got something with just the right amount of sniffle, but they just used way too much of that sweet chili sauce to get there.
I would have preferred more fresh pepper.
I'd be willing to go back to try other dishes, though, since they could be much better with curries for example.
It's just that pad thai is my personal acid test for whether the cook is paying attention and I can definitely make better pad thai myself.
Utterly disgusted – This is not the first time I've been to Thai house at this location, but it certainly will be my last one. We went to lunch today and since my girlfriend and I were sharing the food, most of the time, the dishes were in the middle of the table. At the end of the meal, when I started to pack the leftover to a box, I noticed there was a hair in my food. Disgusted, we waived the waitress over. She basically took over the hair and said sorry and left our table. My friend said, wait, is that it, anything else you want to say? She bluntly said to our face, what do you want me to do? Oh, you should listen to her tone in her voice. We wanted to talk her manager when I got my card back, but were told that there wasn't a manager on site and the waitress that waited on us was sort of a supervisor here (btw.. she had a disgusting rubber band or sth hanging loose in her mouth - not brace, mind you, which is very unappetizing). So I said, listen, I have two problems here, one of course is being the hair itself, but what really irritates us is what you said, what do you want me to do. I shouldn't be the one to answer that question in this situation and your attitude is not the right way to handle the situation. While I was talking, she won't shut up and kept interrupting me and started to accusing me for shouting at her. I said, if you allow me to finish and listen, I wont' have to raise my voice to have my message delivered. Again, when you are asking 'what do you want me to do", your tone is more threatening than apologetic. I don't know it's her English, or her culture, or her shrewd business sense, but at the end even when she voided the charge on my bill (yes, after the incident, she didn't feel wrong about charging my card), I felt quite angry when I left the place. NOT coming back to that place EVER.
Awful food – I love Thai food. When someone told me that the Thai House was considered one of the best Thai restaurants in the state I was excited. My husband and I were both looking forward to a great meal. It was by far the worst Thai meal and possibly one of the worst meals period I have ever had. Thai food should be fragrant and layered with sensual tastes. This had no taste. Maybe the chef was on vacation.
Greasy spoon – Wife took me out for Fathers Day but they did not honor her coupon stating that "Father's Day was a holiday" and coupons wre not allowed on holidays. Food was good but a little greasy from most Thai places. Try the curry duck. excellent.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere – I went with one of my coworkers for lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great with the Thai woodcarvings that made many intimate spaces of 2-3 tables.
I had the red curry and it was very good. The flavors were well balanced with no particular flavor overpowering the others (I have had thai that was hot for hot's sake and the flavor was obscured by the heat) and the heat well balanced.
I will definately go back to Thai House.
Great atmosphere, Wonderful food – Love it! The inside of the restaurant is beautiful- decorated with intricate wood carvings and with candles at each table. The staff is very friendly and helpful- they go out of their way to ensure your experience is good. The food portions are more than enough, served fresh and hot, and with small details, such as flowers cut out of carrots. My favorite dish is the yellow curry chicken hot, but I've also had the pad thai, which is excellent as well.
Best Thai in South Charlotte – Thai House II is in South Charlotte on Hwy 51. Unbelievable food, and a lot of it. They ask you how spicy you want it, so no surprises. (Hint: medium is enough to bring tears to your eyes) If you love Thai, don't miss this gem! Pad Thai is to die for.
Hidden Pearl – What a hidden pearl. This second restaurant of Thai Taste on East Blvd. is 100 percent better than it's predecessor if that is possible. It is fine dining at it's very best. The flavor of the food is exceptional and the Chef prepares all the dishes with hardly any oil. I recommend the Sar Tah chicken skewers with the fabulous peanut sauce. The fresh Summer Rolls are crispy and delicious. Tom Kha is a Thai coconut cream soup that takes a couple of bites to acustom to it's unique flavor but will have you coming back for seconds. The Gaeng Jerd soup is equally delicious. The Pad Thai is the best around as is their Ped Gra Pow, just to name a few. As good as Bankok Ocha is Thai Taste is better; I give it a 10. The atmosphere is elegant the service is impeccable and the food spectacular.
