Fayetteville NC Upscale Steak House – Hand cut steaks, good salad bar, great drinks, nice decor and kid-free atmosphere make for a great time. What's not to like? They have been in Fayetteville for a long time and we've been eating here for a long time. Connie and her crew always make us feel welcome and it's always a satisfying evening whether we are doing business or just relaxing.
They don't know steak – We were excited to dine in a "better quality steak house," or so we thought!!! The service started out very slow, it took at least 10 minutes after being seated for the waitress to take our order, for drinks. Service was very slow to say the least, but they did refill our tea often, though they didn't refill the kids' lemonade even after the glass was dry!!!
I ordered the lady's sirloin, while my husband ordered a T-bone, our kids both had chicken tenders. When the food arrived the first impression was okay, it looked good enough. The steaks are not seasoned, but I've experienced this before at steak houses. Mine was tough even at medium.
My husband's steak was HORRIBLE!!! He ordered a medium done T-bone, it was medium rare at best, and not the T-bone you would expect for $26.99 for sure!!! Instead of a quality T-bone he recieved an end piece that didn't even 'T'... it was a bone with a center of grissley meat, the ribeye protion was the size of a half dollar, and the other half was fatty only about a 5 ounc portion (at a cheap place)...all together the $27 steak that was supposed to be 18-20 ounces was only about 6.5 ounces (at the most).
When my husband tried to voice his disapproval, the waitress took it to the "owner" who she also claimed to be the "chef", and later said he was the "manager"...whatever...He said that it happens that sometimes you get a T-bone without a bone, I guess they also cut their T-bones to be virtually meatless too. The "owner/chef/manager" also said he could refire it! REFIRE WHAT EXACTLY? Besides, if there were any meat on it even a bonehead would know it would be dry after the meat being cut open. My husband told the waitress to just take it away, in total disgust. After another 10 minutes she said that they'd take it off the ticket, what she meant to say is that they refunded $6.00 of the $26.99, so my husband paid $20.00 for a piece of grissle and fat which he only consumed about 4 bites of.
When the waitress brought the bill she didn't leave a pen, and acted upset when my husband approched the front for a pen, at this point we just wanted to cut our losses and get out of there. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK, AND COULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE WE LIKE GO THERE....WE WILL RECOMMEND THAT THOSE CONSIDERING EATING HERE RECONSIDER!!! DON'T DROP $84.00 ON FOUR PEOPLE FOR SLOW, BAD SERVICE, WITH FOOD THAT ANY NOVICE COULD DO FOR MUCH LESS, WITH MUCH LESS HEADACHE, AND MUCH MORE SATISFACTION!!!
Terrible food, hostile staff, overpriced – My wife and I had received a gift certificate for Chris's steak house, so we thought we would use it for our first wedding anniversary. It was a chance to go somewhere nice and enjoy a meal, or so we thought.
For an appetizer we ordered the spinach artichoke dip which was a withered, overcooked monument to mediocrity served with untoasted, lifeless pita wedges.
Sometime much later the steaks arrived. To make things clear, I love steaks. I cook them at home, I order them with a great unerring consistency when given the opportunity, and I eat them rare. I do not use steak sauce or any other device to mask their natural flavor. I appreciate the flavors of a bleeding hunk of beef as much as any man with a primal, cave-dwelling, uberhunter screaming at the moon in the depths of his dark heart. But I could tell just by looking at the flat, stretched out, grizzled remains of the New York Strip which I ordered that this was a low quality cut of meat.
The steak had no flavor, none. It was like biting into a tough wedge of fat and grizzle, devoid of any of the texture or flavors that normally sing to my carnivorous palate. My wife ordered a filet and was treated to the same dire lack of deliciousness, albeit served in a mooshy hockey puck of beef. The steak was served with obviously frozen twice-baked potatoes. It was a dismal first anniversary dinner.
We contacted the waitress who became openly hostile at this point. We were informed at this point that Chris's Steak House DOES NOT SEASON THEIR STEAKS. No salt, no pepper, nothing but fire. To date, I've never seen this folly attempted anywhere else.
In short, worst steak I've ever had. The waitress became hostile when we didn't subscribe to their brand of philosophy on meat. The prices are outrageous, especially for the quality of fare they're serving.
You would do well to avoid this place.
Overpriced, disappointing – I took my wife there shortly after we moved to Fayetteville in February. We waited to be seated even though the restaurant was not busy. After ordering the waitress brought us a bowl of an oily, cheesy spread and some stale crackers. We decided to skip it. The salad bar was ok but nothing to rave about. Our steaks were even less impressive. They were cooked as we requested but they were very plain and quite small. I had a twice baked potato which was only half a very small potato. It was dry and not very good. My wife had green beans which were overcooked. Overall, the meal was such a disappointment that we won't go back. Hopefully, there are better restaurants in the area!!!!
Not worth the price. – We went there for my birthday. I'm glad the rest of the day went so well, because dinner was a huge let down. After we ordered the waitress bought us a bowl of what appeared to be cheez whiz and a basket of mostly broken crackers. The salad bar was pretty good, but nothing special. The steaks were tender, juicy and cooked just right. The problem was they had not been seasoned at all. Not even a speck of salt and the twice baked potato was very dry and had an odd overly smoky flavor. It was an o.k. dinner at best. But for the prices they charge I expected more! Next time, I'll get a couple of nice steaks from my favorite butcher and grill them at home. I have seasonings and I'm not afraid to use them!!!
best food, best service, best atmosphere – My girlfriends and I treat ourselves to Chris's at least once a month. The martinis are execptionally wonderful. No matter what we order (steak, fish, chicken) , it always comes out very tasty. The atmosphere is relaxing and we always have fun with our favorite waitress (kelly). We are catered to as if we were celebrities. The owner (Greg) always walks through the dining room to ensure everyone is having a pleasureable experience. I would avoid going on fridays and saturdays unless you plan on having a few cocktails while you are waiting for your table.
Just a good steak house - nothing more – This is just a very good steak house. Entre's run about $17 to $25 dollars with a salad & potato. It usually takes a while to get in, about 20-30 minutes average.
