Oh hummmm... – Oh Waldorf. I have mixed emotions. As it has been romantized as one of the places to stay when in New York. I was super excited to spend a week at the Waldorf Astoria, especially when my work was picking up the tab! The hotel is rich in history which was be view in the lobby, the attention to detail is simply magnificent and romantic. From the heavy doors to the ostentation décor, I was just eating it all up!

The shower was just blissfully soothing, and the beds were wonderful and I slept like a baby!!

We had grabbed a bite to eat in Peacock Alley, the people watching was great! The crab cakes are a must try as were the sliders. The MAJOR disappointment was when I tried to order a crème brulee. It came out looking like curdled milk! It kind of turned my stomach. The waiter was nowhere to be found and I had to physically flag him down. I was tried to call attention the maitre d' but he was too busy chatting with his co-worker to notice. Once I sent my dessert back did they all come running over to offer other options. The waiter, said that "All of the crème brulee came out that way when they made them this morning!" OK, so you are STILL SERVING them? Take it off the menu!! I'm at the WALDORF, not the HoJos at the breakfast buffet! If you are going to charge astronomical price for a dessert, which is expected. I demand it to ACTUALLY be a crème brulee! OIY!!

The manager came over and offered me his business card to come back tomorrow to claim a new brulee. Nowww, they pay attention, but it was too late to win back any fuzzy feeling of staying here.

I have to give a thumbs down to the front desk, specifically Oscar, who checked us in upon our arrival. The rest of the staff we found to be very pretentious and snotty. The concierge couldn't be bothered to give us directions to a close restaurant for dinner, when the Bull and Bear steakhouse had over an hour wait. We ended up walking across the street to the W (woo hoo SPG) where Stephanie gladly gave us numerous options and even called in a reservation for us. The second time we called upon concierge, he picked up the phone and curtly asked us if we had a quick question... really? Where are you going? I guess you'll be still standing behind the desk and stare off into space until you feel like assisting someone.

All in all the Waldorf really disappointed but I can say that I stayed there. OnBut back to the romantic side, my husband and I played the elevator game (in the movie Serendipity) when we checked out and we actually landed on the same floor!! How wonderful is that!!! Alas, that is our only happy moment in the hotel. The rest of the experience ranged from tolerable to completely unacceptable.
