Wish I'd read the reviews first!!!!!! – I just used Couture Cupcake over the weekend for my 10 year old daughter's birthday party and I would not ever use them again!! I found the customer service to be really lacking and the taste of the cupcakes was average.
This year my daughter wanted to have lunch at the Teppan tables at AI Sushi and see a movie with her friends. So when I noticed the cupcake shop I thought, how fabulous and easy it would be to order cupcakes from them to serve after our lunch! Well, nothing about the experience was easy!
On Tuesday I tried to call and order the cupcakes, but after a few seconds the phone cut off & when I tried to call back it went straight to a recording! After about an hour I called back, STILL no answer, so I left a message with both my home and cell numbers, nobody called me back! I tried again after another couple of hours and got someone who immediately told me she was having phone trouble and could she take my number and call me back, so I said ok. No one ever called me back! Thursday I called again and they took my order, but when I asked about serving the cupcakes on a stand I was told I'd need to rent it for $25 and put down a deposit of $50 even though I only needed the stand for a matter of minutes to serve the cupcakes at a restaurant that is essentially next door! I went to Walmart and bought a stand for $10. Saturday I picked up the cupcakes, the only good part of the experience was the 2 employees who helped put the cupcakes on the stand for me. But they could not give me a receipt which I thought was a pretty basic request from a customer!! And finally, when we gave the kids the cupcakes, most of them thought the frosting was too sweet and ended up throwing theirs away!! So I DO NOT recommend Couture Cupcakes, and it seems like I am not alone!!
Don't EVER use - WEDDING CAKE COLLAPSED – This was - by far - the worst experience I had planning my wedding this summer. After multiple missed meetings, rescheduled times (all the owner, Joni's, fault), she delivers a cake to the wedding reception which literally FELL over into one of my attendants hands.
Not only did she screw up such a significant part of our big day, she refused to return phone calls and refused to acknowledge that she never even put supports in the wedding cake (which anyone with a nominal knowledge of cake-baking knows is must-do).
To make matters worse, she then said she'd refund half. Then said she'd "look into" refunding all of it because it was such an awful mistake. And then yelled at us when we came in the store to ask where our 50% refund was and said she never agreed to that, only to giving $100 back. We have yet to see ANY refund.
Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Especially for something as important as a wedding. The owner has proven to be completely incompetent, rude, and untrustworthy.
Not That Good – I'll try to make this short so you can get an idea of what Cupcake Co is really like.
They had about 25 different flavors listed on their cupcake page, so I expected a few cases full of cupcakes. I went and the store had one small case with 4 different flavors. 4!? really? I got cherry dr. pepper, which tasted like vanilla with vanilla frosting, and s'mores, which tasted like chocolate with chocolate frosting. The others look the same, just called different things. And it was expensive and really did not taste that good. I can buy an overpriced vanilla cupcake elsewhere.
UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE!!! – I recently got married in September and fired the owner from making our wedding cake. On July 8th, 2010, my now husband and I had an appointment with the owner, Joanie, at the Cake Couture Cupcake Co. at the Cinema Point location to do a taste testing for a wedding cake. She assured us she could do the celtic knot design on our cake that we wanted and I gave her a picture that she could make a stencil of.
We didn't sign a contract with her that day as she said she didn't have one for us to sign but filled out a blank receipt with the total cost of $332 that we put on a credit card. This included the travel time to our wedding reception venue and the set up fee. She told me to come back the following week to give her the tartan material she thought would be nice as decoration around the cake table, along with a color swatch of the shamrock green that was a part of my wedding colors and that I could sign the contract when I came back in.
Well, what unfolded from there was ridiculous!! I stopped by shop twice to sign the contract. First time I didn't have an appointment and left a message for her to call me. I never heard from her so I called the shop a couple days later and talked to Joanie. She was rude on the phone and acted like she had no idea who I was. I had to explain who I was, that I had just met her a couple weeks before that and that she was scheduled to do our wedding cake in September. She then stood me up the day of our appt. I left one last message for her to call me and she never returned that call. She never returned any of my calls!!!
So, my husband and I decided not to move forward with her after several attempts to contact her and no response. We also found recent reviews from July and August, 2010 we had spotted on this site and one other that stated her customer service was extremely poor and that she had an "F" rating through the Better Business Bureau.
My husband then called Joanie and left a message to let her know that we did not want to move forward with her because of her lack of communication which resulted in our lack of confidence in her. He stated in the message that we wanted our money back and asked her to call him back. She never returned his call!!
So, we let the credit card company fight it out with the wonderful Joanie, and we did receive our money back a week before our wedding. Thank God!!
The most interesting part of all of this is that I got a call on my wedding day in September from Joanie herself, asking if she could get the phone number for Shelly at Tre Luna because she wanted to drop our cake off. I couldn't believe what I was hearing!! I asked her why she was calling me. She stated again that she was trying to get a hold of Tre Luna to drop off my cake. I told her that there is no Shelly, there is no Tre Luna as it's out of business, and there is no Cake Couture because we decided to go elsewhere and that we got our money back already from the credit card company. She was speechless and I just hung up after that and went on with my fabulous wedding day without her and her utterly crappy cake company.
This owner does not deserve to do business in Colorado Springs.
This company is a NEGATIVE 5 STARS if I could rate it that way.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Couture Cupcakes did my wedding and it was the best experience. I usually don't write reviews but thought it was deserved. Amazing work, professional and such a good experience working with Joni.
Everyone loved the cupcakes and cake!
Don't Waste Your Time – HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND--TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!
My friend, who is getting married next August, is not a cake fan, so when she walked by the Couture Cupcakes shop at 3347 Cinema Point, she got all excited. Cupcakes rather than a traditional wedding cake—the perfect answer. After several unanswered phone calls, we decided to physically go there. So she, her fiance’, her maid of honor and I, the adjunct wedding planner, dropped in last Saturday. Unfortunately, the employee working that day was not able to provide us with much specifics so we made an appointment for the upcoming Tuesday at 1:00 to meet with Joni for a consultation. The meeting will be at the main shop and bakery at 4705 N. Academy Blvd. We were told we can have a tasting at that time and the bride selected three flavors. As a show of good faith, I bought four of their “extreme” cupcakes @ $3.95 apiece. Tuesday, August 10, we (all four of us took late lunch breaks from work to accommodate the appointment), showed up at 1:00 with a couple of minutes to spare. The employee behind the counter was obviously not expecting us. I told her of our appointment and she called Joni to inform her. The message relayed to us—without apologies: “She’s running some errands, but she’s on her way.” Are you kidding me? We waited until 1:25 and it became very apparent we were not going to meet. So I gave the employee my name and phone numbers (work and cell) and asked for Joni to contact me. Needless to say, I shouldn’t hold my breath. You would think that in today’s tumultuous economy, a business owner would be leaning way forward to get your business—not this one. How unfortunate.
Oh, and by the way, the only thing “extreme” about the cupcakes I bought--the price!
Awful Owner – Thankfully, my fiancé and myself never were able to have the displeasure and dis-satisfaction that seemingly follows Cupcake Couture but mainly Joni. Since initially contacting the company they seem ed very disorganized and very unprofessional. Together we had searched the front range for a baker that could provide the cupcakes we were looking for to complete our wedding. After multiple attempts to contact the company and setting a tasting we were nearing checking another task off the list. Unfortunately, when we arrive for the tasting after driving 1.5 hours and arranging for our family to join us, which was CONFIRMED a few days prior, we arrived to find a sign on the door “Sold Out.” Surely after confirming a tasting (twice), it being listed and scheduled on the company calendar they couldn’t be sold out. Well, after waiting awhile for Joni the best excuse we got was oops, I never thought of putting some aside. Strike one! Then Joni states that she will be traveling to Denver the next day and would like to drop some off. Given this rather nice gesture, we stated that we would meet her right off the interstate to save her time and she gave a range of about 15 minutes when she would arrive. Fine. Problem is, after waiting for about an hour and a half, she never called, she never returned calls, she never showed. It is pretty evident of the content of ones character when the person answering your own companies phones states, “She often screens her calls if she doesn’t want to talk to you or she has messed up.” Strike two! Best part of this is, she is now some other suckers bait. From all the reviews that I have read every thing is spot on. Joni is a flake. Period.
After further review I understand why this company has a “F” rating with the BBB.
Bad experience – Check the Colorado Springs Better Business Bureau site too! They have an F rating. We used them for my daughter's recent wedding. Cupcakes arrived as the reception was beginning, not 1 1/2 hr before as promised. They did not bring the cupcakes that were ordered. We wanted flowers arranged on the cake stands - those were missing -a $40 charge(and in our contract). We had ordered some gluten free on a separate stand. No, again. Cupcakes looked like they were intended for a babyshower. Animal crackers on top of many. Pink, yellow, lilac, yellow, blue. We discussed multicolors but also wanted my daughters wedding colors represented in sprinkles. That didn't happen. We think maybe these were leftover from another event. When we returned the cake stands ($40 deposit and we had to return in 3 days or we forfeited deposit and would be charged for stands) the store employee said she had been told we hadn't been charged that deposit so she didn't have to give a refund. I showed the contract showing that , yes, we had been charged. She then said she couldn't give a refund without physically having the card. Since my daughter lives out of the state that isn't possible. My logic, look up the original order and credit it to that. Or contact my daughter - the have her phone, email. But no, she kept repeating nothing could be done without the physical card. I guess I'm too old, have too much experience with retail, but none of this made sense. The clerk made no effort to help us, offered no suggestions. No, she didn't have that information. Didnt offer to figure it out, like making a call and getting the card number frm the owner/baker. At this point I simply wanted a receipt to prove that we had returned the stands on time. She said she couldn't give me a receipt/note, anything that would prove I had upheld my part of the contract. Again, what kind of business is this?? After a lot of arguing, this poor clerk maybe saw our logic and pulled out an unmarked blank receipt pad and wrote a note stating that the cake stands had been returned on time. I then asked if she wouldn't mind writing the name of the company in the blank space. The contracts we signed didn't show the specifics of our order only clauses that protected the business - when we needed to pay, when we were charged for not returning cake stands. If after reading this you still decide to go with this company, make sure all the specifics are in writing (delivery times, colors, setup specifics) to protect yourself. My daughter was also had her credit card charged twice for her second payment and after emaiing, calling for several weeks, it took a trip in person to finally resolve that charge. Also read the reviews posted at other sites on the web. Wish we had. I'm always happy to support local/non-chains, but this backfired on us. A little advice to the owner - get some business training, customer service training, and try to resolve complaints, apologize. make refunds. You have a lot to learn.
