Reviews for Urban Crust

Dinner Mayhem – Urban Crust was recommended to me by an Italian friend and pizza-wise it more than delivers. Together with the two Campania restaurants in Dallas and Southlake Urban Crust is THE best pizza place in the entire Metroplex.

So - why won't we be back, ever? Because:

A) the place is so packed with mostly tiny tables that in some cases it is absolutely impossible to get to them. Tables which would comfortably accommodate two people (and their pizza meals) seat 4 and often 5 patrons. The poor folk who dare to go to this place as only a couple have it especially bad. They get seated at "tables" which are little bigger than TV trays. It is simply impossible to eat comfortably.

If you are a person who never knew a stranger, you will love this place because you are privy to every word said at the tables on both sides of you (at least in terms of loudness). Should the guests at the next table leave before you do, make sure to quickly move your pizza out of the way - there simply isn't enough room for human butts to squeeze through without making physical contact with your table and/or food.

We also couldn't help but wonder what the situation would be in case of a fire, crammed to the hilt as the place is. Probably not too pretty an outcome, we dare say...

B) The noise level is un-be-lievable. So much so that one can literally not hear oneself without screaming. I wish someone would measure the db level in there - it is probably right up there with airplane engines.

C) Service is aloof. Not unfriendly but definitely not on their toes either. It can easily happen that the table next to you (where guests arrived later) will get served before you even saw your waiter to order.

We have decided that the best pizza in the world is not worth such a stressful dining experience and in the future will drive a bit farther to Southlake for our authentic pizza fix.
