Citysearch Editorial Review – The place formerly known as Mani's Bakery (and formerly located on Fairfax) has moved on up to the 90210 with bigger, posher digs and an expanded menu to match. Keeping its promise to serve "good food that’s good for you," Mani's on Maple sources locally-grown produce, grass-fed meats, organic and free-range poultry as well as sustainable seafood. Dinner spans everything from grilled yellowtail with wilted spinach to seitan "meatballs" with tomato curry ginger. There's also a full bar where you can get your drink on with tasty cocktails using organic ingredients, house-made mixers and fresh herbs, as well as a wine list with biodynamic and organic wines. Of course, all the breakfast, lunch and bakery favorites folks have loved since 1989 are still here for the taking. Some things never change.
Mani's is a great cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything is real healthy...vegetarian and vegan plates are available and everything is whole wheat or multigran. Their breakfast plates and sandwiches are amazing. They also offer a great selection of tea, smoothies, and coffee drinks!
avoid at all cost – I will NEVER eat at Mani's again. I'm a vegan, and seek out places that accomodate my diet with enthusiasm and excitement. However, the first time I ate at Mani's they served me "veggie bacon" which my server promised me was vegan (I asked three times). At the end of the meal I was still suspicious enough to ask if I could see the packaging of the bacon product, as it just tasted too "good" to be vegan. Turned out it had both egg AND dairy in the ingredients, and I was sick for two days.
I decided to give them another chance, and ordered a takeout lunch today. My assistant had to go back there THREE times because they got my order - a simple salad - wrong three times! First it had chicken on it, then it had no ingredients except for lettuce and tomato. I'm through with this place.
I will NEVER go back.
delicious and healthy – This food here is so delicious and made with the best quality, organic ingredients - its a great place to go to get something satisfying and unique that's still health conscious both in terms of calories and natural ingredients. Their wraps are especially good and their desserts are great because they don't make their stuff too rich or sugary. This is hands down my new favorite spot to eat out!
Worst Value for Breakfast....just terrible. – For $10 i received two eggs....two miniscule turkey sausages (nothing homemade, nothing special) and...no joke....5 little pieces of potatos.....no bread....no fruit....no salad....and that was called something like "Breakfast the way you want it"....something along those lines. When I realized I needed more food, I ordered some toast (olive bnread)....that costs $5. I never once felt like I was eating anything I couldn't have made at home in about 5 minutes and for about $4.....Worst value....nothing special about the food.
In fairness, I never tried the pastries etc....and I guess it is nice that they have vegetarian and vegan options....but it does not excuse bad service and bad food for high prices.
worst burgers ever – don't order a burger! or you will end up with something comparable to one from mcdonalds, at triple the price. it was embarrassing how dry and old the patty was, same applies to the bun. everything was blunt and tasteless, even the hot air french fries were just the same as the frozen ones. in & out is way above its league.
Incompetent or Uninterested in Service, It?s Hard to Tell? – I really wanted to love Mani's. As a mother who wants her kid to eat wholesome and organic food, I thought this would be my new favorite place for cakes and treats. I ordered a birthday cake, no problem the pastry chef was helpful and informative. However, when we went to pick it up at the time we specified, it took nearly 30 minutes to get it. It was hard to tell if the guy behind the counter was a complete moron or just didn't care one bit about the customer. He kept saying he was looking for a box... and then would come back with "what were you here for again?" URGH. So frustrating when you're trying to get to your son's birthday party. Anyway, the cake was ok. I've had better fruit sweetened cakes... so that coupled with the horrible customer service, I unfortunately won't be going back to Mani's.
If I'm Not an Actor, Can I Still Get Service? – I've been here four times. Twice for late-dinner/snacks (after working late, trying to grab a healthy bite) and twice for breakfast. I had better luck at late night, although each time I ordered breakfast (I'm a breakfast guy). The first time, they had a delicious Watermelon juice, fresh-squeezed. I've always hoped they would bring it back, but it was seasonal and never returned. I usually get eggs, potatoes, pancakes, the like. Usually, it's pretty good, but sometimes the potatoes are dry and stale. It is truly overpriced, as other reviewers have already said. Last time we went, my girlfriend got justifiably irritated that we could not get service because the waitress was gloating over Jason Lee. She was so distracted by him, that she screwed up our bill and our credit card was never charged. Thanks Jason!
Over Priced – My fiance and I went to Mani's for the 1st time on Sunday. He ordered 'eggs the way you like it' which consists of 2 eggs and your choice of 2 other items. When he selected the veggie sausage (which looked exactly like the MorningStar sausage from the grocery store) the waitress told him it would be $2.00 extra. This was not written on the menu. So he got 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage patties, and some average ho-hum potatoes for $12....ridiculous! I ordered the $10 oatmeal, and while it came out in a HUGE bowl, it was nothing to write home about. It had some granola sprinkled on top with 2 strawberries and a half a banana. But $10, seriously! And no one can eat that much oatmeal. Offer half the amount for a third the price. We were very disappointed. $30 breakfast.....NOT WORTH IT. Nothing special at all.
Good Gluten Free Bakery & Restaurant – Finally found a restaurant where I can enjoy gluten free baked goods! While they may have a decent bakery selection, their restaurant menu isn't as accomodating for people intolerant of wheat products. BUT I did have a fantastic Huevos Rancheros one afternoon. Fresh and cooked with healthy ingredients. I was VERY impressed. Coffee was delicious and the service was friendly. I see people complaining about the lack of taste in the bakery selections. That's what happens when you make a product without wheat, dairy, etc., for people allergic to those ingredients. Stop your whining! At least you can have a real donut, croissant, bread, etc.
