I definitely would not recommend this place. I'm not going to bash, I'll just tell you my experience and you can judge for yourself.
I bought a jeep and two weeks into driving it the air conditioner went out. Additionally, when it rained my jeep was sliding down the cobble stone at my apartment complex exit/entrance gates. I think I made the mistake of telling the owner (whom is the one who helped me) that I just bought the Jeep and don't have much history as far as servicing goes. I wasn't sure if it was the stone, the breaks, or if I needed new tired. I went in and was told all my breaks were rusted and they needed to replace all four, they quoted my around $1,000. I asked them to also check out the air conditioning system and was told the compressor was out which is almost replacing the whole air conditioning system, another $1,000. I was also told that it looked like my Jeep needed a complete fluid flush because it looks like it had never been done before, and was quoted another $700. I paid the $120.00 for the checks and left. The next day I went to just breaks and told them what happened with my Jeep and they checked the breaks and told me one of my rear brakes was completely rusted but the rest were fine. I asked him if he was sure because I was told all my breaks were bad and I didnt want to be driving something dangerous, the guy took me to the back to show me and there was minor surface rust on the other 3 breaks but nothing to worry about, I paid a little over $200 (free break check) and I havent had any type of problems since then. I then took my Jeep to Busted Knuckle and got my air conditioner checked, my o-ring had a crack so my coolant was leaking, I got a free o-ring and installment and a free break check, I paid for the recharging and everything has been fine since. The guy explained that if my compressor had been out my Jeep wouldn't have cooled at all, not even those two weeks unless there was a leak in the compressor itself. Being as I had only spend a fraction of what I was about to spend at bring your own parts I asked him if my Jeep needed any fluids, which he told me I didn't. I asked him to give me a complete flush anyway, plus a tune-up, oil change... and what ever other fluids a car needs. I got it fully serviced for $250.
All in all, I paid around $550 (parts, labors, and checks) for what bring your own parts charge me $120 to check and quoted me an additional $2,700 to fix.
Don't do it, the place is a rip off. Don't sign anything until you read it. They quote you a low price because your not going to pay that price. If you have money to throw away go here. After I spent $1100 dollars and my car wasn't fixed I told them I was done give me my car back. Martin then stated It shouldn't cost more than another $300.00 dollars to fix it and I can't believe you are just going to leave. I told him why already gave you a $1100 dollars and it's still isn't fixed. I asked him if he could gaurantee it would be fixed after another $300.00 dollars and he said no and there was also no warranty. Then he asked me what do you plan to do with the car I told him sell it he then asked if I would sale it to BYOP. I laughed by the way my orginal quote to fix the car was $690.00 dollars. Look at the appearance its dirty, messy and whose has desks in their waiting room. They are not registered with the BBB why because they know their a scam. I should have known better, ugly appearance, no BBB, no warranties = SCAM!!!!!!! Look at the cars just junked around the building. If you do choose to go here after reading this let me be the first to tell you I told you so. And after your scammed please come back and post your experience so others won't get scammed.
Great place! I never write reviews but their customer service was excellent! I bugged Ricardo so many times when my car was in the shop and he was never rude to me! Great place, fair prices and amazing service! Thanks guys! BTW, this is a real review and I am a real customer! I will go back if I ever need my truck repaired again!
*DO NOT GO THERE!!* Total and complete rip off! They told us that they were going to need a part that cost $70 in order to be able to tell us what the problem was, also the part they were talking about was not there. (B.S). Then they come back (another guy), and say they still don't know what the problem was yet, although Autozone and Oreilleys already told us it was the EGR valve, they then proceeded to tell us that even though they didn't know what the problem was and could not tell us what part we needed, they only knew that they were going to charge us $295.00 for labor!!! I got so pissed off and told my boyfriend that hell no we were NOT going to do business with these shady ass people!!! We paid $70 FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!! I went somewhere else, he told us the problem for FREE! In about 5 minutes mind you. Told us the part was $70, just as Autozone told us, a new wiring was going to be $30, and his labor $50. Altogether, $150, BY..0OP labor ALONE, $295.00 For what? What job were they going to do any different than Jon the mechanic? A-holes!!!! REVIEWS RECOMMENDING THEM, OBVIOUSLY FAKEEEEEE!!!!!
FAKE REVIEWS! DO NOT DO BUISNESS WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE SCAMMERS.
They don't give up until the issue is resolved. – I started going to bring your own parts back in Oct '11 where I used to take all my business to a local Firestone. BYOP was really helpful in finding the parts for me and installing them the same day while I waited in their main lobby.
The reason I'm giving them 5 stars is because of their dedication to resolve a complex issue on my Acura's Power Steering pump. I work for an IT industry and when a real interesting issue arises we have to investigate and setup monitors to help determine the issue. This can sometimes take longer than a couple of days resolve. Well BYOP did exactly this. They replaced the pump with an aftermarket, which created a noise issue only when turning the wheel slightly. It didn't start until I left the shop and arrived in Austin. They replaced it with another aftermarket under warranty and the next pump worked but started to create a noise as well. There was an issue with the pulley that was not completely straight and the tensioner that caused the belt to come off.
It seemed like a disaster but they assigned Martin to me, where they researched the issue and collaborated together. It turns out Acura’s have a difficult time with some select aftermarket parts and doesn’t take to them well. I had to go OEM, which I researched myself, and was the right thing to do to in the first place. As I had already paid for labor, I just had to pay the difference for the OEM parts. When I left my car there they drove me across the street on Bandera to Avis where they have a nice discount for BYOP customers and the Avis staff is very friendly. Again, BYOP took care of ordering all the OEM parts and returning the aftermarket parts without adding to the additional cost and pain of returning parts. They researched that you had to clean out and install the slot where the tensioner goes and they never gave up until my car was noise free. It’s an 11 year old car but still drives like I got it off the lot.
They have a great system for documenting all the service/labor and it’s available online as well. For a company who does not know the history of the maintenance and things do go wrong after 11 years ?, I’ll quote Martin “There is always a resolution, just need time to diagnosis and resolve it”. Thanks BYOP and staff at Bandera.
Honest and Fair automotive repair – i had my wifes '99 Lexus towed to BYOP to have a new transmission installed after two astronomical quotes from different Transmission Shops. Shortly there after I lost my job and was unable to pay for the work completed by BYOP. I spoke w/Martin (the owner) and he was very understanding of my situation. SEVERAL months later I was able to gather the money together and pay for the work completed. Martin was very easy to deal with and he didn't even charge me storage for the time our car sat there after the repair. What a huge blessing! I found BYOP to be honest and more than fair in dealing with me. I would highly recommend BYOP to anyone I know who is in need of any auto repairs.

They saved me money and did me right – I have been dealing with Bring your own parts since they opened. I have always received good service and honest opinions.
I am not an expert on car repair and i know that sometimes it needs more work than i thought.
Martin has ALWAYS been upfront with me and told me what needs to be done to keep my car running.
They have gone out of their way to help me in more than one occasion - i recommend them to anyone.
Just remember, there are no easy fixes in car repair and it sometimes takes longer than expected. IF you need it done right, Bring your own parts can get the job done - they saved me $500 on my last repair by taking the extra time to fix another shops mistakes.
This is the case more often than not! Thanks guys
Be cautious bringing car. – This place is horrible. I called on a wednesday to make an appointment to have the heater core repaced in my '93 S10 Blazer the next day. They told me it would take one day. They replaced the heater core, but it took two days for them to do it. I go to pick my truck up and the dash is loose. I tell them to fix it. They take it back, fix it and bring it out. I was about to leave when I noticed none of my gauges worked. They had worked when I brought in it. I tell them to fix it. Two days later I go to pick it up and now the horn doesnt work, the power mirror control doesnt work and the tempurature adjuster for the ac doesnt work. I tell them that this is bullcrap and that I had already missed two days of school and one day of work. I will never go here again!!! The service was horrible and they didnt even vacuum out the dirt they put inside of the truck.
Most definitely a RIP OFF!! – THESE PEOPLE GET A ONE STAR ONLY BECAUSE I CANNOT GIVE THEM SOMETHING LOWER....
I took my car in for an oil leak. They quoted a price of around $250 to replace gaskets. I drove my car in on its own power. They proceeded to dismantle my car and called me with an inflated price of $800. I told them not to do the work I would take my car somewhere else. They told me I could come get my car but I would have to have it towed away because it was not running, and I would still have to pay them the original $250 for taking my car apart. I had to let them do the work at the inflated price, but I vowed I would never go there again.
In the meantime, they had done something to my car because the “check engine” light came on after I picked it up. It was also running rough and the engine was idling very high. I took it back and they told me that they did not know why the engine was idling so high; and that it would cost me money to have the engine checked to see why it was idling high. They also told me that my brakes were about to give out and it would cost about $500 to have them fixed.
Needless to say, I was not going to have them do any more work on my car. I took it to another mechanic [an honest mechanic] who listened to the engine and told me it was idling high because someone had tighten something in the engine to make it idle high. The honest mechanic took some pliers and loosened whatever it was that was causing the engine to run fast and it has been running smooth ever since.
I would never, ever, positively never let BYOP touch any car of mine ever again, even if they were the only auto mechanics left open in the city.
