I don't have a history with the church or the pastor that steppe down, but I do have a history with the NEW Pastor Michael Torres..... This young man has withstood the test of time and has trusted God thru much of the persecution, only to view it in the positive with an opportunity to pray for those who made fun of him. This was about 25 yrs. ago that I saw and heard this with my own eyes and ears.
I questioned whether his faith was gonna be strong enough to hold fast and keep moving forward. I am deeply moved to see what has transpired..... When a person can share the word as fluently and down to earth to where youth can understand it, then there really is no question that God is working thru him as a beacon and a vessel.
I don't trust easily, but when a man has a solid track record like Michael's .... I trust.
As far as the other pastor, we should forgive, but not forget... No one should go into to the position of a Pastor without knowing the enormous responsibility that comes with it. Yes there is scripture about forgiving, as we should. But there are statutes and attributes that one MUST have as defined by God in scripture as well and if one has ANY reserve WHAT SO EVER, then they should not put others in the body of Christ at risk who are depending on him to be steadfast......
Ugggh..THANK GOD that wicked of a man Alvin stepped down as the senior pastor and took his minion of evildoers along with him. His evil little son and cohorts. His gym partner Bob Dominguez as well.
Since being caught up in adultery, he has since moved to spread his doctrine of wickedness with his new church plant The Well Christian Fellowship in Long Beach...uuuugh.
With that being said, I'd never step foot in this church again with all the hypocrisy and cover ups that had been had. Hope your search for a home church is better than mine!. :)
NOT PERFECT! BUT THE LORD IS IN IT... – Like any other church filled with imperfect people; this church is not perfect. I would liken it more to a hospital than a museum!
The good news is that the undivided Word is preached and God is working in the hearts of His people. This growth is seen in numbers but more importantly in the lives of the people that truly have a desire to grow in their love and knowlkedge of God.
What most people enjoy in a small church: (sense of community, accountability, family atmosphere, etc.) is definitely found here. But these same things become problems for those who come to church for different reasons.
After reading the negative reviews, I encourage those who've left or were asked to leave to either talk to the church leadership (following Matthew 18) or move on. All Christians make mistakes and everybody is welcome here or welcomed back if they want to resolve their issues!
But if people want to hold grudges and remain bitter, they should at least keep their thoughts to themselves. It doesn't seem very Christ-like to cowardly hide behind a blog and tear down a house of worship. Sounds more satanic if you ask me!
Now what? – The last time I was there I had a hard time sitting and listening to the message. It was I think in March on wednesday. The reviews seemed unrealistic so I had to stop by with a friend that goes there. Since then I was told that the pastor had to step down.
blahh – You know how rotten sushi leaves that bad taste in your mouth? Well this little chapel will leave you reaching for the mouthwash after you leave. Someone should report this to their senior pastor's pastor Raul Ries.
I used to attend for years on end with no stopping ahead of me. I used to be a bulldozer of "on-fireness" but that flame was quickly extinguished when certain turn of events came up against me and the leadership. Didn't do a darn thing to deserve the horrible ridicule or "shunning" of the elders and to an extent the "lay" people of this little chapel. It really hurt my feelings immensely. I went into depression because "shunning" by a community hurts a person's soul and spiraled me into a plethora of maladies.
The CIA has NOTHING on cover-ups compared to this little chapel. The real truth is layered in favoritism, snakey ness, gossip, DRAMA, spitefulness. Once you get into conflict with the few- you become "marked" for life. Jehovah's Witnesses, the Amish are renowned for "shunning" their members and I think this little chapel takes some cues straight out of their playbook.
As I write this I'm taking Zoloft and drinking my life into a stupor because of my depression because I want to have a family but they have taken my church family away. :(
CC Into the Light. – This church is sorta good. Alright, this church used to be located in Whittier, now it is in La Habra. I have mixed feelings about this church. I do understand what jon wrote about this church. He does have points to his claim. What I do like about the church is that it is still on the smaller side, which if it were a bigger church you would have that anonymous feeling.
Favoritism: I do think many people may be favored if they have "connects" to people who may profit the church. I don't think I would want to beat up on a church on citysearch but I'm just trying to have an unbiased post and not just fluff up without giving the downsides. It does have people with attitudes for sure but I can be one of the people with the attitude.
Just do your own research. You'll find that you may or may not like this church.
Not Edifying! – Wow! Just like some legalistic Christians to beat a brother up becuase he spoke about a bad experience he had in a place where people are supposed to be representing Christ and failed to do so! So does John have to appologize for being human now because he was tweaked? Or have you forgotten? 1Thess. 5:11, "Therefore encourage one another and edify one another..." If a church is having some heart issues, do you think it's better to make yourselves look more righteous by beating this brother up instead of coming along side of him? Or are you that blind to the fact that there are so many others, besides him who have experienced the same thing at that church, who are no longer there. Still hurting and looking for healing. Shame on you! Men fail! Turn them back to God, yes! But in love. Not with condemnation. Jesus didn't do that. Take your own advice. He said, "For God did not send his Son into the world to CONDEMN the world, but to save the world through him." Romans 8:1, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus..."
John, I'm sorry you had that experience there, and I pray that God will direct you to a place where you can find and recieve both, healing and rest. Continue to pray that God will have mercy on that church and that they will turn from their ways.
Not perfect, but striving to follow the 2 Great Commands – Well, jondear, it seems like you have had a bad experience at this church. Sorry to hear that. But have you spoken to the leadership about your complaints as Matt. 5: 21-24 and Matt. 18: 15-18 teaches? To speak accusations without following the scriptures is divisive and is itself sin. I hope you have or will speak to them. Jesus prayed for unity amongst believers. I will be praying for you and this situation
Calvary Chapel into the light – Hope no one relys on one negative review. The church is definitely there for you, in many ways, but if you decide to attend a church, and look for it's faults. Instead of going to hear gods word, then the enemy will show you all its faults. There are many good talks of our church. My family and I have attended this church for a number of years, and my children love it. The church has been at it's new location now for 6 months, and is growing. from 1 service on Sunday, to 3 serv ices. Including a spanish ministry. Praise the lord. God definetly has great plans for this church. Don't take my word for it, come see for yourself.
For my brother/sister who wrote the review. Did you follow scripture? From Matt. 18:17
Favoritism Reigns @ this house of worship! – Wow, where does one start. This church will propagate smily faces to your face, but when it comes to a person walking away from you, the gossip mill begins!
It's sad that so many people have come and gone to this little chapel, yet the politics in this church still abound.
If the leadership knows you are practicing sin, but you are one of the "in" crowd, they will cover it up and allow you to continue doing so. While others will be told outrightly that they need to stop or else they will be disfellowshipped.
Choose your church wisely.
