kinda of expensive – food was just ok, quesadillas as appetizers were cold when they arrived. margararitas could have been better but were ok. restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. staff was nice. food was a bit pricey for what you got and i would say the best part is the salsa bar in the bar area.

Best Mexican Food in the Nashville Area – First of all, if the first thing on your mind when going to a Mexican restaurant is the margaritas, maybe you should just skip the restaurant and go straight to the bar. Or better yet, AA. Idiot.

I grew up in the Eastern NM-West TX area, and also lived in Austin for a time where I was a regular customer at the original Chuy's on Lamar. I can tell you for a fact, this is the best Tex Mex food in the Nashville area, and probably the Southeast. If you disagree with me, that's OK. You're wrong.

The sauce selections are plentiful, and all have their own unique flavor. I prefer the Hatch green chile or the Boom Boom sauce. My favorite dishes are the ground sirloin or steak burritos, but you can also see me eating a Chuychanga or Elvis chicken on any given visit. I've never had a bad meal at Chuy's, no matter what I ordered.

All of the salsas, quesos, and guacamole are first rate. Portions are HUGE and prices are cheap! I've never spent over $35 on my family of three, and even though I'm a big guy, I rarely leave without a to-go box.

My only real complaints are inconsistent service, though we've never had really BAD service here, just some are better than others, and lack of parking. They really need a bigger lot; I end up parking on the side street off Broad most times. They need to train their waitstaff more consistently, and expand their parking. (Hint: both of these situations are better at the Cool Springs location, which I also visit from time to time).

If you're used to the bland white cheese and red sauce offered in so many of Nashville's Mexican restaurants, Chuy's may be a little rich and spicy, but once you develop a taste for this ambrosia, you become addicted! Seriously...if you don't like Chuy's you just don't like REAL Tex Mex!

Good Food, Better Desserts – We love going here when we can get in. Because it's a fairly new restaurant (I think it opened in early March), there is a long wait and very little parking during the peak times.

Once inside, it's awesome. Brightly colored decorations. Friendly servers. Great selection on the menu.

They bring chips and salsa right away, but there are several dips you can choose from, at no cost (we recommend the Creamy Jalapeno). We've each tried a few different meals, and nothing has disappointed. The ONLY dessert we'd recommend (mainly because we tried it once and instantly became HOOKED) is the Tres Leches cake.

Enjoy!

Decent Tex Mex, good decor – Finally Tex Mex has come to the Nashville area. As a transplant from a southwestern state I was missing the kind of Mexican food I grew up on and Chuy's helps fill the void. It is not exactly what I am used to, but it comes close. The portions are large, the variety on the menu good and the chips are freshly made from tortillas that are created before your eyes. If you wish for additional sauces there is Creamy Jalapeno (imagine range dressing with a slight Jalapeno flavor); house salsa; a Pico de Gallo type salsa and then you can ask for a bowl of any of the warm (in temp) sauces that normally go on enchiladas or such to dip your chips in.

The service is my only real complaint. We went today and had a fabulous server; however since we go there once a week we experience a LOT of bad or mediocre service. They really need to work on their server training and require a more uniform quality in service.

Worse Margaritas – Like a lot of people, the margaritas dictate the first impressions at a Mexican restaurant. The margaritas were the least favorable margaritas that either my companion or I have ever had. And believe me, when I say that my companion is an expert on margaritas.)

We ordered 1 or the rocks and 1 frozen. They were both bland, watered down, virtually without any taste of any tequila, and served in warm glasses. (The frozen margarita quickly thawed out.) To compensate, we ordered the well taquila to add to the drinks ($4.25 each). These were also watery and without much "taquila taste". The waiter explained that the bartender had shaken them with ice. He must have let the ice melt.

On the food side, it was generous but standard tex-mex affair.

I've lived in Texas and don't understand how Chuy's could even be ranked. But maybe they think we Tennesseans wouldn't know the difference.

Viva any other Mexican restaurant but Chuy's. If this is typical fare, it won't be here very long, unless it's go some very big bucks behind it. But who's to say someone doesn't want to throw good money after bad.

In order to get this review published, I've had to give it a ranking. 1 star is generous.
