Good club to come to. The music is good but the dance floor gets really packed, too packed sometimes. They have go go dancers on certain nights. They have tables to sit at if you want to relax and take a drink. You may have to wait in line on certain days.

I would rather eat out of a Chipotle dumpster than here – Like most Mexican restaurants, you get complimentary chips and salsa when you sit down. Unlike most Mexican restaurants, the salsa was really terrible. It was a dark brown mush that tasted somewhat akin to licking a gorilla's hairy posterior. Unfortunately for me, the food took forever to come, so I was forced to eat their flavorless chips with the unpleasant salsa or pass out from hunger. To make matters worse, they had no air conditioning, and it was 100 degrees outside. Because it has a bar/club atmosphere, I wore pants for fear of being denied entry. My legs almost started on fire due to the immense heat.

I ordered the Carne Asada burrito, and it came with nothing other than a large burrito covered in a dark red sauce. It looked quite appetizing, but after a few bites, it was clear that it was by far the worse burrito I've ever had, and I eat a lot of burritos. It was amazing how flavorless it was. It supposedly came with guacamole, but it seems like they only put a small dab in the entire monster burrito. I'm not exactly sure what was in the burrito because I was a bit afraid to look. From taste, I could only recognize that there were flavorless and tough chunks of beef and peas. That's right! Peas?!?! What is this? A chicken pot pie? I have no idea who puts peas in burritos, but I'd have to say that it's a terrible idea.

My girlfriend shoved a forkful of the cheese enchilada in my mouth. I had erroneously assumed this was because she wanted to share a delicious dining experience with me. I was wrong. It was even worse than my burrito. I'm not sure what cheese was inside, but I have a suspicion it was made from rat milk.

I would award this restaurant 0 stars, but that's not an option. Avoid like the plague.

Friendly on the wallet, but that's about it – Gave Ix-tapa a try last weekend and was underwhelmed by both the food and the service.

The space is very nicely designed and decorated, with an illuminated bar, large open windows and comfortable seating. This place is good for groups or an after-work hangout. We got there right in time for the Happy Hour menu to kick in, which was great. Good prices on food and drinks. We got a pitcher of Sangria for $22 which was tasty and well-made. As for food we shared grilled shrimp in a cilantro sauce and calamari. The price were good but the portions were SMALL, even for happy hour food. If it weren't for the bottomless chips and salsa I would not have been satisfied. As for the food itself it was just average. Nothing spectacular by any means.

What really made an impression on me was the poor service. The restaurant has been open since December, but I would swear the staff just started a week ago. When we walked in the place was almost empty, and no one was at the host stand. A host standing at the bar asked us if we were there for lunch then offered to seat us after we had been standing there for almost a minute. When we were seated our waitress was less than friendly and had so much makeup on (big fake lashes and all) that we swore she had come straight from her night shift working the corner. She was very curt and hardly smiled, really just did the bare minimum. While we were there a homeless woman began harassing some diners out on the patio and the staff did NOTHING to help them. Even when this woman pulled chopsticks out of her bag and began eating the diners' food they didn't even offer to move them. Worse than that, Ix-tapa still charged them for their meal. We were so appalled by this that we said something to the waitress, who returned later and said that the diners had given the woman a cigarette and so it was their fault that she was hanging around.

I saw flyers for night time events that advertised great drink specials and good music, so I may return to Ix-tapa as a bar (when I don't expect good service anyway), but as for a restaurant they really need to step it up, in terms of food and in service.

Citysearch Editorial Review – A daily happy hour and an array of wallet-friendly specials ranging from $2 tacos to 50-cent tequila sunrises put the fiesta in IX Tapa Cantina's dining experience. Recently opened in the heart of Old Pasadena, the eatery takes its design cues from dance clubs and sports bars alike (think neon pillars and flatscreen TVs). And while it may not provide the most intimate dining experience, it's ideal for groups celebrating birthdays, a Lakers victory or simply blowing off some steam after a tough day at the office. The menu features traditional Mexican fare such as tacos, quesadillas and fajitas, but also offers up a few surprises including an ample selection of healthy salads and house specialties such as grilled tilapia served with garlic shrimp. It's also worth noting that IX Tapa Cantina keeps some seriously fiesta-friendly hours, staying open from 11am until 2am Thursday through Saturday (and until 11pm the rest of the week). Its tempting arsenal also includes an array of decadent desserts, such as Mexican bread pudding, Kahlua flan and the IX Tapa banana spilt, which is served in a deep-fried tortilla and comes topped with marshmallow crème and cinnamon.
