Yes, yes, the pizza is pretty good. But for my money the thing to get here is the gelato, especially the olive oil flavor, which sounds awful but is actually ethereal.

Great ambiance, eh service – The pizza is very good, but the attitude is so bad that I'd rather support establishments that make pizza that does not taste as good but puts at least some effort into customer service. For a list of the top 10 restaurants https://files.nyu.edu/jdy215/public

One Fifth Avenue meets Two Fifth Avenue ? – OTTO's and Master Chef Mario Batali might consider hosting / sponsoring a benefit or donated portion of the day on each World AIDS Awareness day / month for their neighbor just across the street @ 2 Fifth Avenue, i.e., for the LOVEHEALS org foundation, which for 20 years now has done so much to promote awareness about HIV and AIDS, toward successfully driving its death rate significantly downward.

My son is a regular in that restaurant with his lovely girlfriend, and recently had his parents there at OTTO's for a very nice dining experience.

In this day & age of promotion for kindness to humankind, what better advertising than to host such an event for their wonderful neighbor !

Boycott Mario Batali Restaurants – Mario Batali's recent comment comparing bankers to Hitler and Stalin are downright disgusting and irresponsible (reference at bottom of review). While there are many views on bankers during these challenging times, his references to such dictators who executed many people for their religion and / or beliefs is hurtful and ignorant. I do not believe it is in this world's best interest to support him or his restaurants given his most recent comments.

I had some incredible clam pizza in Ct of all places, so I thought I'd try Otto's. I was a bit disappointed. Clam pizza is such a great invention. It's like linguine w/ clam sauce, cut hold the pasta. Otto's was a little short on the clams. It was more like a fast food

Horrible Service! The manager didn't even care – We were visiting NY City with an 11 month old. The night before we had an amazing fine dining experiance with the baby at Colicchio & Sons and Sons. However Otto was a different story. After basically just waiting for us to leave ( double the wait time promised) we were seated... Everyone from the hostess to the busser's were rude. At the end of our " not so tasty meal" the waitress proceeded to kick my son's highchair with him in it!! Because he had moved it an inch into the walk way!!! We were shocked and of course I told the manager who was about 22 years old and didn't care less. The food was nothing to write home about either. Pasta I could have made from a jar of Prego. But it was not even noticed in comparison to how rude the service was. I will NEVER eat at any of Mario's restaurants again. Nor will any of our friends who were dining with us. I am a huge Tom Colicchio fan now. I suggest you go there!

Pathetic service at the bar – We sat up at the bar for a late night dessert, and were looking forward to a scoop of the olive oil gelato that my friend loves. The bartender told us he could not serve us a scoop because they were out of brioche, and that they would not serve the gelato without it! Disappointed, but open minded, we tried something else. We had to ask twice for the coffees we ordered.

Ten minutes later, our neighbors were served olive oil gelato, and when we asked the bartender what that was about, he said, 'you asked for a scoop. Those are bowls.' This ludicrous comment would almost be laughable if it wasn't so unfathomable. Scoop this, jackass. I will never go back to this place.

Verdure OK – So I've always had a soft spot for Otto, service or no, just because it's well priced and pretty good. I love going there to feast on their vegetable dishes, which are so richly flavored and the kind of thing I wish I just kept in my fridge. That was my intention last night, though I hadn't been in a while--my friend and I would get a couple veggie dishes, maybe a bruschetta, and then share a pizza.

So: the cauliflower and eggplant were good, as I remembered. Both are sweet and briny, great on the bread. I'd never had the brussels sprouts with vincotto before, but both my friend and I loved them. They're soft and rich and sweet. The broccoli with pecorino, on the other hand, was raw. We were both mystified. It just seemed strange to assume that we'd assume that the brocoli would be raw. The waiter was nice, though, when we nervily expressed our mystification, and we wound up with a second order of brussels sprouts instead, which was fine I guess.

The pizza wasn't as good as I remembered. It was so thin, almost crackerlike. But the sauce was good, and I wasn't displeased.

The weirdest thing? My friend got some gelato to take home. The waiter brought a filled cup with a cookie sticking out. and no lid. He said they don't have them. Hm. We finally worked with him to squeeze the ice cream cup into a solo drinking cup with lid.

So I was glad to see Otto's still buzzing, but I think there are enough places to eat more interesting verdure and pizza than here.

Good Pizza, Pretty bad service – Went to Otto on a Saturday night on whim and made a 10:30 reservation. We got there very early (9:45p) and politely asked the hostess if she could seat us early. Long story short, she made us wait until 10:45p for a table and never offered a word of explanation.

Lots of NYU students and a very casual crowd. The bread they served us was cold and full of condensation, like it was made a couple hours ago in advance. We ordered some appetizers and shared a pizza...it was good, but not mind-blowing. Our waiter was decent at best.

Overall I guess it was worth it to go, but definitely not on a weekend night. Wasn't overly impressed with Babbo either, so right now Batali is swinging 0-2.

service FAIL – First off, the atmosphere is not good at all. It is very difficult to hear anything, and you are very often seated an inch away from another table.

The food is pretty good. I like the pizza - not too heavy or cheesy - and the tapas are pretty inventive and small enough to get a bunch.

The absolute buzzkill here is not the poor ambiance, but the astoundingly bad service. It sort of surprises me that this hasn't been fixed yet; it seems like a good deal of people won't go back. I don't know if the waitstaff is miserable because the working conditions suck, or if they just innately suck/are snobby (note: you work in a restaurant specializing in pizza!!), but they just don't do their job. And, they have an attitude about it. They barely listen to your order, someone else delivers it, and you don't hear back from them until the check comes. Just bad. I'll do delivery next time.
