I had significant damage sustained to my Impreza after a wreck, and I sent my car over to Motion Lab to get the engine damage fixed. Unfortunately, after reviewing several options and my insurance company reassessing the damage, it was determined as a total loss. HOWEVER, just the customer service and professionalism of these guys was so top-notch, that I will be coming back to them for any of my car needs. Alex was extremely attentive and communicative through the entire process, and kept me up-to-date on all of their diagnostics. He was very sympathetic to the entire situation, and even gave me some advice on what to look for in a new car.
Knowledgeable, professional, and outstanding customer service - GO TO THESE GUYS!
Smart, Professional, and Ethical – Anybody with enough money can buy a dyno, but no dyno comes with instructions on how to tune a car. For that, you need someone like Todd with years of experience behind him. There are other tuning shops around, and some have dynos, but beware, some of those guys are just "posers". Want to know if a tuner knows what he's talking about? Pay them a visit while they are tuning a car. Ask questions. Todd can show you a sample of the thousands of tuning maps, horsepower and torque curves, timing, boost and air/fuel ratios. See the results for yourself. Todd knows his business, which is a really good thing, because run it too lean, too much boost, or too much timing and its good-bye motor. With so much on the line, do you really want to trust your expensive engine to a poser?

Previous owner of my 2011 WRX had installed Blouch turbo, 1000cc injectors, fuel pump, Perrin fuel rails, Cobb dp, Perrin catback, etc. All installed at Motion Lab Tuning in Charlotte, NC. I purchased the car from a dealership in Huntersville, NC who had beat the crap out of the car before I purchased it. Got the car home, started smoking in two days. Took it to Motion Lab to find out the #2 ring land had failed. After a lot of back and for the with the dealer, they decided they would pay labor to rebuild my block.
A month or so later, Motion Lab had the Manley pistions and rods, acl bearings, moroso pick up, etc in the block and the car with a basic tune on it for break in. Car will be back to Motion Lab in about 300 miles for the final tune.
I can't explain how helpful and knowledgable these guys are. They helped me when the situation got quite frustrating for me given the car had 14k on it when I brought it to them. Alex kept me updated, answered all questions I had, and took pictures I requested during the build. I will not take my WRX to anyone else. I recommend them 100%

To anyone reading this, "Guy F." opened an auto business recently and had intended to compete with us and is desperate for business. Prior to opening his business, he attempted to hire not just one, but every one of our employees and one of our interns. We have proof and statements to confirm such unethical actions.
While we are flattered that he is attempting to copy the Motion Lab business model, writing a "fake" review about a competitor is certainly the wrong way to get started with a new business.
In the meantime, Motion Lab will continue to provide the best possible service to our clients and to see each and every project through to completion.
If this was just opinions it would be understandable, just banter and speculation. But in this case these reviews don’t even scratch the service of the trouble and reality of customers through. I was a customer of motion lab for 1 year, 2010-2011, and was there for the changes that were supposed to make it better. Better phones and computers, More people to get back to the customers faster (After you pay your wait times for phones will get longer the more you wait for XYZ to get completed!") If it starts to drag beyond what you were quoted, more techs to get work done faster, it didn’t help. There was multiple phone calls not answered, never returned messages. Dynotunes, that weren’t completed in one session, or even attempted, schedules being pushed back farther and farther. Even simple things like the color of a BOV that you wanted, you receive the wrong color. And everything is paid for up front, that’s right your money, no matter if its $1 dollar or even several thousand. Regardless if the services you have paid for are completed or not? These are not opinions or hear say go to any meet in the community of surrounding charlotte and ask about Motion Lab and see what car enthusiast that have dealt with them really think. If I can help anyone not spend months waiting on services, again they paid for to be completed UPFRONT! Or have their CAR sit behind the "Fence of Shame" (I’m sure after they read this they might put up a tarp to hide all the tragedy) where the shells of several vehicles await to be reconstructed (If you think I’m lying drive by the shop and look behind the fence that’s in-between motionlab and the 4x4 shop) after half a year or longer! Some the customers fault others, again other just bad logistic, or plainly taking on work for capital (like telling you "Yeah we can do that!" Knowing they can’t complete said job in a timely manner). Do a test when your job gets beyond simple pipes and fittings and goes more hardcore ask for an estimated date, write it down and see if it gets meet. If it does, good for you, if not, ask for another and another and so on and on. Don’t be a fool like some of us have been and do your research online, don’t just sit on the internet, go out and ask other enthusiast. I am sure you will meet a couple of fan boys that really wont voice their true opinions, but when you cross that line from "satisfied" (content your already in) to confused (You’re no longer happy with what’s happening and they don’t seem to be listening) and cheated (They really took you $1+ and made you wait months, for rather simple shop services), they’ll really see. This establishment also has a knack for quickly trying to get bad reviews removed by calling them slander. I am not just throwing around insults based of lies, or calling out individuals but an enterprise as a whole.
I have, RECIEPTS, CALENDAR DATES WITH JOB QUOTES, WHEN THE JOBS WHERE COMPLETED or weren’t, UNANSWERED PHONE CALLS / UNRETURNED MESSAGES on phone logs, Pretty much everything that I have mentioned here for people who spend they hard earned money to enjoy.
Truly professional service. – It was strikingly clear from the first time I called Motion Lab Tuning that this is not a typical garage. These men are professionals in highest sense. Each of my many questions were thoroughly addressed; easily betraying the depth of their knowledge of, and passion for, my most humble of Subarus.
While they are known for their tuning, Motion Lab was happy to take care of care of the engine repair I needed as well the performance upgrade I wanted. Alex and Todd honored their estimate to the letter and maintain very reasonable labor rates.
As much as I love my car, it really is small potatoes for these guys. While in their shop it was sitting beside machines being built to make two, even three times as much power. Despite all this, my car was treated with equal attention to detail. Todd, the owner/tuner, took his time making sure my car was humming perfectly both on and off the dyno. The results of his work made fall in love with my 2006 WRX all over again. Power is immediate and smooth, adding a serious sense of urgency to entire powerband. Their installation is factory quality, just look at their own cars if you have any doubt. 100 Ft Lb of additional torque to the wheels can only make you smile.
Want to know what changes they made to my car? Just call and ask them, an actual human being answers the phone. I have even gotten them way beyond their regular office hours. I was kept fully up to date as work on my car progressed; the owner himself even asked me to call him back after I had time to drive the car and feel the changes with the new tune. While in their shop I have seen them give customers looking for even the most simple of repairs as much of their time as they need. Does this sound like good service to you? It is; and frankly, it is refreshing. There is simply no excuse not to see what Motion Lab Tuning can do for your car.

Great people and work – Excellent group of guys who know what they're doing. Detailed everything they did to the car - and it breathed new life into the thing.

Excellent performance shop, great customer service – I bought a set of coilovers for my 2010 Genesis Coupe, knowing I would need to find a shop to install them. I'm typically the type that prefers to work on my car myself, because I'm a bit nervous about making sure things are done right and that every bolt is tightened to spec, etc. Since moving to NC, though, I don't have access to as much space and many of the tools I used to.
I've met the MotionLab guys before, and one of the things that has made me more comfortable with them is their involvement in the local tuner scene. Todd, the owner, and some of the other guys at the shop regularly attend local car events including the monthly Cars and Coffee gathering at Northlake. I feel like I know the owner personally and would feel comfortable just dropping by the shop to hang out. These guys are very professional but also friendly and approachable; you never feel like they are too busy or too important to spend a few minutes chatting. You can tell from some of the customer vehicles in the parking lot and in the shop that both the clientele and the shop operators take pride in their rides. So I decided to give them a shot.
Bottom line, they did the work quickly and for nearly half what another shop was going to charge me. Even though the Genesis Coupe isn't one of the cars in which they "specialize", they were able to speak intelligently about the car and seemed to know what they were doing. When I arrived, they walked me through what I wanted out of the install - how much I wanted to bring down the ride height, how I like the ride stiffness, if I wanted crazy camber - they even offered to make an appointment with their alignment shop for me. I dropped the car at 11:00 and before 3:00 I had a call saying it was done. They took the time to road test it and readjust the damper settings, even telling me specifically how they configured everything. All of my stock pieces as well as the documentation and spanners from the kit were placed carefully back in the box and back in my trunk. Alex encouraged me to take the car for a spin and bring it back in for any last-minute adjustments if I wanted.
I left feeling confident that I went to the right place. After a week of driving on the new suspension, I now know without a doubt I went to the right place - I haven't heard a squeak, creak, pop, clunk, or bang from the coilovers yet. Only scrapes when I forget how low my car is now.
Motion Lab earned my business, and I'll send others there.
Great Shop – I’ll start off by saying that I’m new to the tuning scene so naturally I had tons of questions about all that is involved in the process. This is where motion labs come in; these guys have always answered all of many, many questions with patience and great knowledge. Once I was ready for a build they listened to exactly what I was looking for and setup me up accordingly. Todd the owner / tuner is very talented and knowledgeable and takes great pride in delivering an outstanding product. I am completely satisfied and happy with the work they performed on my car. I look forward to working with Motion Labs in the future and highly recommend them.
