Reviews for Dick's Wings & Grill

It's about time they got something like this here. – Second review. We've been there on numerous occasions and at all hours of the day and night since they opened. At the last minute, we took a chance on Mother's Day at about 8:30 PM.

First bad news: Even though I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be open later, the chairs are on the table at the front door and we got "the look" from some of the staff as we walked in.

Second bad news: No Miller Lite on tap today, even though it's supposed to be a regular item.. (Huh? EVERYONE keeps M.L. around!)

Third bad news: Mild, Medium and Hot are apparently relative terms here. Your best bet is to forego those instructions and just go with "this flavor" or "that flavor," because if you try to specify a heat quotient (and I've never quite understood this concept in conjunction with flavored wings anyway), you're never going to get the same thing twice, no matter what you request. My companion is almost as heatproof as I am and is rarely surprised by a high "heat" quotient. In fact, she usually expresses a desire that something was hotter. Maybe it was an accident and maybe it was due to the fact that everyone was in a hurry to get out of there but the requested flavors in both our wing orders were conspicuously absent, having been replaced with a heat quotient that can only be described as what you'd wind up with if you woke up with one of Satan's hemorrhoids. On your tongue.

Now, if this were the first time something like this had happened, one might chalk it up to a bad day. Problem is, this has been occurring since the place opened and no one seems to want to take responsibility for the regular inconsistency. We frequently hear "it varies" when we ask questions about how this heat quotient thing is supposed to work, and that's about the only response we ever get. Tonight was an all-time high in both the Inconsistency and Disappoinment department and the manager was (according to our waitress) not there. His father was, but he apparently couldn't be bothered, either, as he made no attempt to contact us, despite the fact that just about everyone else in the place had left.

To be fair, our waitress offered to remove the most offensive entree from the bill but this is hardly a solution for an establishment that seems to operate on the concept that inconsistency is policy. Between the frequent absence of what might be considered staple items in a business of this type (draft beer, celery, properly sized carryout boxes) and the apparent lack of a consistent prep policy, what is the point in operating a business under a franchise name? Mickey Dee's would have been out of business decades ago, had the franchisees been allowed to operate with such a lack of consistency, from operating hours to recipes.

We'd really like to see this place work. It's the best thing that's happened in our area in ages and the concept is well within our preferences for quick casual dining out, but if someone doesn't start taking control of the program, the place is going to wind up being yet another vacant storefront in an already all too barren shopping center.
