Very Bad! – My wife and I had the unpleasant experience of eating at Roxy's this week. I had been before and the food was good but not great. I'm originally from the north east and I know what a proper Diner is all about. This time instead of a pastrami, or corned beef sandwich, or whatever, I wanted breakfast. So I ordered the full country, biscuit and gravy, eggs, bacon, a real heart stopper! My wife had a bagel, lox, cream cheese plate with capers, onions, tomato, easy enough right! The biscuits were hard my fork would not go through them, microwaves kill bread, the gravy was salty, and to top it off the sausage in the gravy was raw! Yes, I ate raw pork, gross, still feel sick about it! Eggs were over cooked like rubber, bacon was translucent, hash browns barely cooked, soggy, the whole plate was awful. My Wife's bagel was toasted which she didn't ask for, the lox looked as if it had been chewed first, and she said the garnish was not fresh. She loves capers and said they were strange, the onion was dry. Wow, how can you mess up something so simple, nothing to cook, this would never happen in new york. When the waitress came over I told her politely that the pork may be uncooked which I knew it was, and that the bread was hard from the microwave killing it from the inside out. I could see it on her face that I had just pinned the tail on the donkey. She asked if I would like another one, and I declined the offer because I was feeling sick about having just ingested raw pork. She took my plate away to investigate the raw pork while I sat cringing and returned to say that it was taken off the bill which in my opinion we should have not paid for. I then asked her simply "was the pork raw," she replied, "I'm afraid so." It's really unfair when a bad chef hiding in the kitchen producing such under par food is making the waitstaff look like the bad guys. Damage control was not done and I have no choice except to never return, so sad. One star because citysearch made me!
Good food / Bad attitude – We took an out of town visitor to Roxies this morning for breakfast. As we entered the restaurant there was really only one table open - right at the entrance to the restroom. Obviously this was unavoidable. Unfortunately, however, we discovered there was a foul odor associated with the restroom and every time someone went in or out (which was often) we were overcome by it. As we waited for our food the restaurant started to empty out and several booths further away from the restroom opened up. At that point we went and asked if we could move, explaining the circumstances. The waitress said she'd check and later a woman, who I assume was a manager, grumpily came to our table and snapped, "You wanna move? Grab all your own stuff and you can go over there." And instantly turned away and stomped off. We were obviously capable of taking several trips to move our silverware, napkins, drinks, etc. But really? They couldn't assist in any way? This was such an annoyance to them they wouldn't lift a finger? Again, they were not particularly busy. And again, the odor at that table was overwhelming. They made no effort to check the restrooms. And honestly the odor really made me wonder about the cleanliness. I was embarassed for having brought our guest there. I get that they don't want people moving around. But there was a legitimate reason and open tables. And rude is rude. I'm officially over Roxies.
Mediocre NY Deli – Mediocre NY style deli. Matzo ball soup had some hints of authenticity, but didn't quite make the mark. Pastrami sandwich, the meat rated a B+, but the rye/pumpernickel mix bread was a bit odd. Tater tots (admittedly not a real deli item, but I like them) were overdone and almost solid. Finally, I had some bagels bagged for takeout, ant they we awful! Actually threw some out they were so bad.
Great Pastrami!!!! – The food was fantastic and the service was wonderful. The pastrami was the best I have had outside of New York!
The lox make we weep – It's tender, fresh tasting (if that's possible for a cured fish), and on top of an 'everything bagel' it's heavenly. If you don't fixate on having the same thing every time (like I do), there is a wide and deep selection of other good stuff too (or so my husband says - I am all about the salmon).
Good food and great service – Roxy's Diner is an atypical Seattle restaurant: it has good food AND great service. Unlike every other restaurant in this city, Roxy's actually understands that an establishment needs good service in order to garner repeat business, and we will return. Our server made a mistake with our order the other morning, and instead of rolling her eyes and complaining at her customers (Dish and Crow, are you listening?), she corrected the mistake quickly and to our benefit. Thanks, Roxy's, for making our experience unlike any other in this veritable wasteland of eating establishments.
The food here is also good: generous portions, a large selection, and tasty dishes. And for breakfast (or lunch and dinner), the prices are not bad. You won't be disappointed with Roxy's.
Another win for the Vegetarian, his girlfriend and his Mom – Okay so last weekend we went for brunch at a not to be identifed Vegan restaurant on Capitol Hill (can we spell Tofu ten ways? all bland?) and this week was my choice. So my son, the reluctant Vegetarian epicurian, his lovely girlfriend and I walked briskly over the hills of Freemont to reach Roxy's. I am not saying the service was good ( it was ummm - indifferent) but we had the best time eating well prepared, lovely homey savory delicious breakfast stuff. My son had the delux home fries (again a hella good designation- we are on a roll) his lovely sweet girlfriend had the Halvah french toast (sorry sp) and I had the kippered salmon plate, a couple of cheap and tasty mimosas later and we were DELIGHTED. What a perfect perfect place for our weird family brunch - we will return!
East Coast expats looking for the perfect pastrami sandwich should look no further than this friendly Fremont diner. – In Short
The bright psychedelic wall murals are oh so Fremont, but the heart of this neighborhood diner remains firmly on the East Coast. True to form, the menu offers more choices than a mortal could ever work through--though the item of choice is the thick sandwich made with juicy, house-cured pastrami on rye. Other favorites include blintzes, muffuletta sandwiches and Reuben spring rolls, made with pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss with a Russian dressing dip.
