The best soon tofu soup I've ever had. Even the banchan (side) dishes are fresh and delicious. The parking is somewhat scarce since it is located in a shopping center.
Spicy and Authentic! – This place serves very authentic soon tofu. It's among the spiciest soon tofu I've had. Try the combination, with little pieces of seafood and meat. It's a must-try for tofu fans.
Yummy Tofu Soup – I am not an authority on Korean food, but when a Korean friend of mine brought me to this place, I was floored by the soon tofu soup. The restaurant is a total hole in the wall in a strip mall, and the parking is terrible. Also, the little appetizers that they serve before the main course were a bit too exotic for my taste (they give you fee "starters" of kimchee and a number of other vegetable concoctions). But the tofu soup was great. They have other things on the menu, like Korean BBQ, but this restaurant is all about the soup. You have the choice of ordering different "flavors" of the tofu soup (seafood, beef, etc.). It's a spicy red soup chock full of tofu that they bring to you in a sizzling hotpot; they also give you a raw egg that you put into the hot soup to give more body to the soup. It's hot, spicy, flavorful and delicious. After I ate their soon tofu soup for the first time, I was craving it for a week and had to go back again for more!
Hidden away in a Koreatown strip mall, this unassuming eatery serves steaming pots of tofu to an eclectic Eastside crowd. – In Short
The small restaurant brims with neighborhood regulars, from suits on lunch to fast food-weary students. Weekend nights, it's not unusual to find film-school types occupying the rugged wood tables. Varying in intensity from plain to hot, cauldrons of silky tofu are the order of choice: soy chunks in steamy broth are combined with add-ins like beef, clams, shrimp or veggies. Upon serving, a raw egg is broken over the bowl and cooks in the boiling stew.
the best – I've been going to this place for Years! it's the Best Tofu house in town. Don't fall for the other places because they are not the originals. A great place to eat with a great ambiance! THe portions are great with all the barley tea I can drink and never ending side dishes!
um...pardon? – one of the reviews above says something about the portions being too small for the price charged. um...my regular order at beverly soontofu is 8 dollars for an unfinishably large casserole, and all the sides i can eat. i suppose 8 dollars is more than 7 dollars, and is even more than 6 or 5 dollars, but ARE YOU SERIOUS? where else can you get more great food than you can eat for under 10 bucks? ok, i know a lot of places, but my point is that beverly soontofu is definitely one of them.
Average soon tofu – Its only OK. I prefer Sokomdong across the street - the soondubu is richer, and the panchans are better - they have raw crab, and you get the brown rice cooked the stone pot...mmmm
Good tofu, portions small! – Typical Soon tofu, just like any other place. Portions not comparable to price charged--I guess they had to charge more for their wood-interior decoration... You get a gallon pitcher of tea on your table, so that means self service, so that also means NO tip, right? Parking is a big hassel, lots of cars patronizing the KTV and Pool Hall, I guess they decided to skip the soon tofu too. I would not recommend going, there's plenty more tofu places on Olympic.
Low fat tofu and kalbi that kicks butt – Just so you know what you're eating, Soon-Tofu is a type of Tofu. "Soon" just means less processed, or raw in Korean. It's very mushy and can't hold much of a shape. These have less fat than your average medium cube shaped tofus.
Having said that, you've got to try their Kalbi, the korean bbq. The owner creates the marinade at home to guard it's top secret receipe even from her employees. Ok, so she seems a bit paranoid but her kalbi kicks butt. Sometimes I buy pounds of uncooked kalbi, for a weekend bbq with friends. mmm...
