So tasty - one of my favorite Korean places – I love this place. It's not the prettiest establishments, but it's so incredibly tasty. Little pieces of bbq'd meat wrapped in rice paper, with green chives/onions/lettuce, all dipped in sesame oil, salt and spicy sauce.

And the host is always so nice and welcoming. Definitely one of my favorites.

the best dukbosam in so cal! – you'll always be greated by the smiling owner. the quality of the meat is always great, and who can resist the dipping sauces. its pricier than the AYCE places but its worth it. Always get the deckle and the short ribs. YUM!

Super Fresh, Great Flavor and Friendly Effficient Service – Super fresh, super tasty Korean BBQ. The service is outstanding: prompt, polite, efficient. It's a feast and always lots of fun. We take friends from out of town and it's always impressive and well received. They will cook in the back (rather than you cooking at your table) if you like. We prefer it that way. I think that they do a better job cooking the meat than we do, and we can focus on conversation instead of cooking our meat!

Authenticity – The disparaging remarks about this place probably comes from either a horrible misunderstanding of Korean culture or simple meanness. This isn't a place for hip Korean food, where waitresses are dressed in hanboks and giggle with their hands covering their mouths. Go down the street to Cho-san for that kind of cartoony korean experience. This place is real. There's a giant mural in the back of a vast river landscape, totally out of place, totally endearing. The owner, a sweet, solicitous man with dyed black hair, walks to each table, asking if everything was ok, even pouring you water if you have an empty glass.

Even the utensils reflect the truthfulness of the place. The plastic bowls have warped scars from being near scalding table grills. It is rambunctious inside, full of voices of families and folks just off work and even kids on dates. The setting is durable, authentic, and the ajuma waitresses look and sound like your emo, always making sure your pan-chan is refilled, making sure you're being well fed. The reason why people wait in line for this place is because of the way it feels, eating here. Cement floors, slick metal ceilings coated with layers of vaporized grease, you can't get more authentic than that. Don't come here if you're looking for Woo-Lae-Oak or Chosun fine dining, with metal chopsticks and plasma screened waiting rooms. Come here for good food, for conviviality, for modesty and heart, all elements of dining you can't buy with all the money in K-town. And of course, the duk-bo-sam is necessity.

If you're irritated with valet pulling your car out for you when your car is thirty feet away, well, then, you haven't been to k-town, or you're not familiar with its rascally ways. You go to any plaza on 6th street, like on Alexander or Kenmore, and this is just protocol. Koreans need to make a living! (My uncle did this sort of scheme, and it's just accepted, just like pushing a button to call a waitress, or belting out a "Yogi-yo!")

Great Korean BBQ orientation for newcomers – Wait staff was very accomodating and helpfulwith our group. Waiter took the time to explain the items on the menu to us and demonstrated cooking methods. Restaurant was very clean and seating was not crowded. Attentive staff and manager checked with our group frequently. Quality of meat was excellent and great value. For those that prefer not to fight the traffic heading into Korea town, Garden Grove location offers excellent alternative and plenty of parking. Recommend for groups and families, would absolutely go back.

Don't expect any RESPECT there, be ready to get ripped off, tough guys – If you are ok if you are served with dishes which is not cleaned and still has dripping red liquid(this site doesn't allow to use the term that I want to use) from meats, right place. Must be Ozzy Osbourne.

If you are ok if the manager yells at you when you complain about the terrible service, right place.

If you are slim enough to be served with "high cholesterol meat" half of which are white fat, right place.

Oh, yeah, their favorite, if you endured all those things, you should pay the tips, "service" charge, because %15 is already charged to your bill.

The final thing, you tough guy, you should get your car, right? You go to the parking lot, it is empty and your car is the only one there. Valet boy with red hat come to you and "DEMAND" tips for convenient parking.

Before you apply for an extreme show program on tv, be trained here!

Editorial Review – This Koreatown mainstay lures local foodies with sizzling table skillets and L.A.'s (allegedly) first-ever rice noodle wraps.

great service and food to top off my trip... – we were in la for a day after coming back from japan, and was craving for korean food. we are from houston and everyone raves about how la has the best korean food second to korea itself. my bf and i went and found our way to this small hole in the wall after a 45 min drive. the waitress was super friendly and patient with us as we didnt know what to order and had no clue what duk bo sam was. my bf's broken korean did not help at all, as the patient waitress stood there waiting for our decision. the portion was huge and the price was very reasonable. she was on top of things throughout our dinner. the best part was the owner constantly asking us if we were ok and if i wanted more rice. he showed respect towards all customers, not singling anyone out, especially we were young. we were so happy with the experience and wish we could come back, but had an early flight to catch. im sorry to say, but houston has nothing compared to the service and portion of food for the amount of money you paid. we will be returning to this jewel on our next trip to la!

Good – This is my first time having this kind of Korean BBQ where you wrap with the duk bo sum. I've always just ate the meat out of the grill. I have to say that the whole wrap thing is a great combination in terms of flavor and texture. Although I am use to the meat being marinated this place has a good dipping sauce (sesame oil with salt and pepper and fermented bean paste. However, the panchan were mediocre, I didn't care for it too much as I do at other places where the panchan were the highlights of the meal rather than just a side dish (those I just devour them and ask for seconds). I really like the environment, you get the whole experience. It was pub like and cozy. The waiters were really nice too. Of course you smell afterwards.

friendly staff, good Korean BBQ, a little messy – I had visited a Korean BBQ place once before (about 10 years ago), which I found thoroughly tasty. However, I had gone with someone who "knew the ropes" and they helped facilitate the process for me (e.g., what to order, how to cook it on the grill in front of you, how to use the lettuce as a kind of "tortilla" to wrap the barbecued meats in, etc.). Since then, I'd felt too intimidated to go it alone. Well, I finally convinced a Korean-speaking friend to accompany me and, on the advice of reviewers, Shik Do Rak was the place we went.

I was surprised at how small this restaurant was. Also, if you're coming from the suburbs, you need to understand that this place is in the heart of the city. Since that is where I live, this wasn't a problem for me, but South Coast Plaza it ain't. As promised by other reviewers, I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, although their English was limited (but not as limited as my Korean).

We ordered one of the combinations (a #2 or #3, I think), which basically consisted of some side dishes that weren't so exciting for me (e.g., I don't know their names but there were some spicy noodles, some squash, some soup and rice, etc.). The main attraction of the combination, however, was the meat, and they gave us plenty. It was shavings of semi-frozen beef and pork, each about the size of half a piece of bacon. These you would grill in front of you. Then, you'd dip the meat in one or both of the two sauces they provided for you (one was sesame oil and salt, I believe; the other was a medium spicy concoction, which I liked). Then you'd place the meat into these rice paper tortilla-like wraps, which were damp like noodles.

While I'll give the restaurant a thumbs up, the rice paper wraps didn't work for me. They would fall apart and would also leave an oily residue on your hands. Lettuce seemed to work better (in my previous experience).
