Unaccommodating & Poor Hosting – After a whirlwind of driving from Russian River, through Jenner & a spectacular sunset, heading south on CA1, my family and I were ready for a nice meal, but did not find it at the all too stuck-up Station House Cafe.

Okay, I admit it----we, the spontaneous travelers, did not, repeat, did not have reservations at this restaurant when we came in from the very cold @ 6:15 pm on a Friday. Our party consisted of two adult women in their 40's, a seven-year-old girl and an octogenerian nana using a walker. You've got the picture. I spied multiple empty tables (some, I'm sure were reserved) & a wooden bench directly in front of the drafty door. Upon our request for a table, we were told, "30 minutes" & nothing else. The host could have made an effort to accommodate my handicapped mom, even to seat her comfortably in the bar or to assure us that we would be seated as soon as possible, but no such effort was made. In an ironic twist, as we slowly turned to exit, a worker thanked us for dining with them...we continued our road journey to Fairfax where we had a DELICIOUS, DELIGHTFUL & ATTENTIVE DINING EXPERIENCE @ SORELLA CAFFE.

Always takes forever – I've stopped through at the Station House a few times, since it's the most noticeable place in Pt. Reyes and would seem like the natural choice. Thing is, the folks who run the place seem to know this and take it for granted. It always takes forever. The other night, a Friday, I went at 6:00 pm with my mom and a friend. Wait was supposed to be 45 minutes, so we had beer and (good!) calamari in the bar. It took an hour to get a table, and it looked like other locals without reservations were being seated before we were. Once seated, two of the three warm glasses of water were eventually poured, and the third? 20 minutes later, along with a glass of wine. The server forgot my friend's salad, and the food, with the exception of the good yorkshire pudding breads, was... fine. It all took SO LONG, though, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Two and a half hours later, we finally got back on the road home. And it's always like this. Next time I'm going to eat at one of the other restaurants in town. You might as well, too.

Sit out on the Patio! – Stopped in for a quick lunch this afternoon while touring the Point Reyes area. The large dining room looked fine but given the beautiful day, we sat outside on the patio. I had a fruit salad smothered in thick, homemade cream and a bacon cheeseburger which was ok. Service was a little too leisurely for my taste, the waitstaff seemed either overwhelmed on this quiet day or inexperienced. The patio is quite nice, we sat in the bright sunshine under a vine-covered trellis and next to herb gardens. A decent spot but there aren't many choices in this area.
