If you're a sucker for really old restaurants, you'll love Taix. The waiters are charming and the food is old school. Fun for families.

Excellent food and best value in Los Angeles. – I have been coming to Taix for 35 years. The restaurant has been in business for twice that long, which should tell you something. Food is always excellent and very large portions. Service is efficient. Prices are low by any measure. This is French provincial fare with emphasis on hearty flavors. For about $22 you receive: a thick soup (as much as you want), salad, large entree (with side dishes) and sorbet. Don't come here if you want the latest trend in fusion cuisine and decor at a restaurant that probably won't be around next year. Do come with a healthy appetite for good French food. By the way, every year on July 14 (Bastille Day), Taix rolls prices back to 1937 levels: roast chicken dinner for $1.26 (but beware: always a very long line for this).

hasn't changed, anything – this place is a great place to take your mom from the midwest if she has not gone out to eat in 20 years. The food is pretty good and the wine list is the same. The place has big booths and even though they should update the menu, I still love to go here. You get a lame relish dish, iceburg salad with house dressing or blue cheese for an upcharge (SO 70's!) and soup is served in a bowl and left on your table. This might sound like a slam...but to ME - these are good points. I have yet to have an entree that would impress any foodie but I personally love it because it reminds me of a place my grandparrents would take me to when I was 6 (and I'm almost 40). Service is ok. Lot's of party rooms and a great bar area to have a cheese plate that your suburban aunt would think was "fancy" with a nice french wine. A quirky and nice date place if you like old school charm.

Echo Park's family-friendly French comfort destination--with moderate prices and a discounted wine list to match. – The stately dining room is decorated like a fancy restaurant, with frosted glass and a faux tin ceiling, yet the moderately priced fare and abundant portions draw everyone from priests to Eastside hipsters. Traditional three-course dinners include soup, salad and dessert. The signature roast chicken is sided by bordelaise sauce, and trout almondine's buttered coating is scattered with almond slivers. The extensive wine list--featuring superior bottles at cut-rate prices--is a draw in and of itself.

LA's Best Kept Secret – I had passed this place a million times for years and never gone in, until one night I decided to go there with boyfriend and we were sure glad we did! The food was just amazing, and so inexpensive, especially for French food! The lamb chops were done to perfection and we both loved how they started the meal with fresh raw vegetables and a tureen of lentil soup. The place has so much Hollywood charm of the old school variety. The waiters wear the blazers and know everything on the wine list and menu by heart. We ended up going back over and over until we left LA. We will be back!

Real food without all the Fru Fru! – This isn't some overly fancy, puffy, fat laden menu, it is real food, eaten by real people in the country side. Extremely hearty (or light whichever way you want to go), this is an old fashioned spot that comes alive on the weekends. The waiters treat you like family an the food is very fairly priced for what you get. A friend of mine had her reception here because they only charge you for the food and not for one of the several reception rooms they have. A real gem in Los Angeles.

Overpriced boring food – For the price, you can get a lot better french food. Nothing was spectacular, it felt like french food for your american grandmother.

How have I not been here before!!!???! – I've lived in Silver Lake for 5 years, and I've driven past Taix a billion times. I tried it last month, and was so amazed at the food and price. The decor is old school - think an upscale restaurant from the 70's. The wine list, though, is unparrelled. Our dishes were abundant and tasty. Unlike a lot of French restaurants that are high a presentation, but low on service, taste and affordability, Taix is departure from the norm. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent Food Improved Service Great Decor – This place is decorated like a real old fashioned restaurant. It has a white couches and booths room, a stately dining room with old fashioned wall murals and wood tables and chairs, and a serparate huge bar room not just a bar. I wouldn't recommend the private library room, it's like eating in a closet, no windows. Excellent food very authentic tender French food. They practically give you soup, salad, sherbet for free, excellent spirits by the glass, desserts, trout almondine is fabulous so is the salmon. Not recommended on holidays, the food quality suffers because of too many people. The service has improved 100%, there used to be long waits before.
