Bad Food, Bad Service, Questionable Business Practice – We went to Lokal on a Sunday night when there were very few patrons, us and one other couple. Interestingly enough 5 Leaves next door was overflowing and had at least a 30-45 minute wait. Lokal's food was uneven, some warm, some tepid.. the hummus appetizer was stale as was the bread for the table. Worst of all, when the bill came we found 20% had been added to our bill as a "tip" because we had been joined by two friends. When questioned I was told it's the restaurant's policy for a party of 6 or more. I asked if it was stated on the menu and told it was although it must have been pretty small print because I couldn't find it. On top of this our light- handed waited tried to skim some more from our bill by giving us incorrect change. When questioned, he said that they don't deal in small change and rounded up to the next dollar. This place is a rip with mediocre food and worse service! They don't even pretend to care.
Subpar – I want to like this place as it is so close to my apartment but it consistently fails to deliver. The only thing going for this place is the seating. Food, service, drinks, menu all fail.
never going back – my girlfriend and i had been to brunch at lokal before. so yesterday as we were riding by we thought, lets stop here and have some lunch. it was pretty empty considering they were showing the world cup.
we both ordered juices, my gf ordered a steak sandwich and i ordered a burger. when i got my burger, i noticed the tomato slice was not freshly sliced, it looked dry, like it had been sliced far in advance. i pointed this out to my gf and was going to just discard it but she noticed something else. she pointed out to me that there was a spot of mold on the tomato, not on the skin part but on the slice part which leads me to believe that the tomato had been sliced days in advance. far enough in advance to grow mold on the sliced part of the slice. how long does it take to slice a tomato i thought? so i call over the waiter and nicely pointed this out to him. he says "okay?" and takes away my plate without even a hint of an apology or remorse for this disgusting situation. im thinking okay, ill give him the benefit of the doubt. he returns 5 seconds later with another semi dry, old slice of tomato on top of my burger and walks away without a word. i am now sitting there in disbelief at the lack of concern for me, like i was bothering him. i then walk over to him and say, its kind of gross, still thinking maybe he would offer me a new burger and that he was just embarrassed or something and wasnt sure what to do. he says to me, in a kind of annoyed voice.
"well, what do you want ME to do?"
this is the first time i have ever walked out of a restaurant or wrote a bad review for that matter (i signed up to citysearch just to post this review). this stupid, simple tomato incident can only lead me to believe that this restaurant doesn't care to use fresh ingredients or care to take care of their customer. what did they use in the "fresh" juices that we got? it seriously makes me wonder. luckily we only had a few sips of these.
i will never step foot inside this restaurant again.
i was fuming yesterday. so disrespectful and its not like it is cheap.
btw the fries were a soggy greasy mess.
on further inspection check out their dept of health score history.
not very appealing IMHO.
Soooo slowwwwwww – Food is tastey but took 20 mins just to get water and another hour to get food. Slowest place in the world
Great service, atmosphere and food! – This place is awesome. The wait staff is phenomenal. They are very attentive and extremely friendly. The food is terrific, never have I had a bad meal here. The pizzas are great, pasta is scrumptious, and the fish is delicious too. For dessert there is no contest the chocolate souffle is a must. It is amazing. The owners are great and always make you feel welcome. Open air seating with great views of the park. A great addition to Greenpoint dining!
Great food, great location, great service in the heart of Williamsburg! – I tried Lokal last night, cute little Mediterranean Cafe in the heart of Williamsburg! Great place, perfect for afterworks drinks and nibbles. Had a really good sangria, tasty appetizers (warm spinach, hummus, fried calamari), flavorful entrees (best thin pizza served on a wooden board, delicious skate fish) and yummy desserts! (chocolate souffle and home-made apple-pie). And service was great too, very attentive and friendly staff! Will definetely be back, at least for Summer brunches on their terasse accross from the park!
Loved it!! Definitely will be back! – Had brunch last weekend, and came back for dinner last night. The food is fabulous! I had the special warm spinach with nuts and feta cheese as appetizer. Then for the main course, grilled trout, and also tasted my friend's chicken. Simply perfect!! We shared an apple pie with ice cream; exquisite!! I went back to my childhood!!
Definitely will be back!
Pizza is fine but not cheap – I was not aware owners can leave reviews for their own place. My experience shows that the grill vegetables were missing flavor, looking good on top but some burn in the button. Penne pasta was OK but the shrimps were overcook. The place is new and the kitchen still needs a little work, plates look very good but missing flavor. Drinks are fine.
DELICIOUS sums it up! – This new Mediterranean restaurant opened in Greenpoint near MCCARREN PARK and all I have to say is that we'll be eating there at least once a week. I had the chicken atop mushroom sauce and I have to admit, it is probably the best chicken dish I've ever had! My boyfriend tried their steak w/ frites (which I happily tasted) and again, SCRUMPTIOUS! The meat is really tender and flavorful! The owner walks around chit-chatting with patrons...everyone is really friendly. The decor is nice and romantic. GO THERE...you will not be disappointed! :-)
Editorial Review – Right across from McCarren park, this Mediterrean bistro stirs appetites with panini, grilled pizzas and mezes.
