The Best Restaurant by Far! – I love this place because of consistency in their food and service. Everytime I have the Chicken Tikka Masala, its perfect. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Also, they deliver free and its fast and quality is same as if you are dining in. They give great portions of entrees and their menu price is very reasonable compare to other Indian restaurants. By the way, if you like drinking beer, try Taj Mahal beer, its really good.
Great Customer Service – I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes or wants to try Indian food. Perfect place to take a date or just have dinner with friends. The ambiance sets to the mood for a delicious Indian dinner. The prices were reasonable as well. Customer service was off the charts!
The only thing I would change is to order my food hot/spicy. We asked for medium and it was a bit too mild. That said, I LOVE hot food, but I think the others in our party were a little scared of what the spices could do. Mistake on our part.
Beware of Rip off – SUMMARY: Great food, but beware. Will try to trick you in and get as much money out of you as possible.
I went there today for dinner after seeing all of the great reviews on here. I can say without a doubt that the food is great. We ordered the Anarkali Dinner for 2 for 49.95 after our friend told us of a coupon for $25 off of $40 found at the restaurants website. When we got there, they told us that the coupon did not work on this Anarkali Dinner for 2 as "too many people were ordering it" and they were not benefiting from the purchase. Nowhere on the coupon did it say that excluded this dinner. That was just the beginning.
After negotiating with the owner via phone, the owner allow us to use this coupon only at that instance. Then the food came. The vegetable soup and somosas were great. Best somosas I've ever had. The chicken masala was also excellent, but the sag paneer was a little dry. The coconut vegetable curry was quite good as well. As we looked at other experiences at this restaurant online, we realized in hindsite that they did not give us any naan. In hindsite, I believe that this was purposeful neglect.
When the check came it included an automatic 18% tip even though it was just 2 of us. The waiter pointed out to the very last line of the very last page of the menu where it said "18% tips will be charged." This is an odd place to put it. What was more odd was the waiter's explanation that they charged 18% tips on all orders. I cannot verify this as I have only been there once, but I feel that if this was true, business would significantly suffer. Furthermore, on the $25 off coupon, it says "18% tip will be added to parties of 4 or more." As there were only two of us, it does not make sense to me why they would add the 18% charge.
In the end, I was so disgusted with the service and the ploy to milk me for my money that I paid no tips watsoever.
The Wait Was Worth It! – My friends and I heard about this Indian Restaurant and we decided to go there last weekend. When we got there and it was packed. We had to wait about twenty minutes for our table, but the wait was well worth it. Everything we got was excellent, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was the best Chicken Tikka Masala I ever tasted. I know Indian food well and this Indian Restaurant Rocks. My friends and I are also very happy that they are open late, it give us time to eat late on weekends and start hitting the clubs afterward. For a busy Indian Restaurant, their service from beginning to end was excellent.
Keeping Rocking Anarkali!!!!
Spice Heaven! – Went there last night and WOW! I will now be a regular! Had to come here to write a review and was a bit surprised to see some negative reviews. The service was outstanding. I had just sat down when I was given a complimentary samosa. Great start. The vegetable kurma was superb and the green sauce that comes with the popadam is extraordinary - I kept it to put on the kurma! I highly recommend this place!!
Nothing special – My food was bland. Maybe this was my fault because I asked for no spice - maybe that's where all the taste is. I also got a vegetarian dish... The place has cute booths and nice decor, but don't expect to be swept off your feet by the service.
Best Indian restaurant in town by far – I have been eating at Anarkali since I moved here five years ago and everytime my girlfriend and I eat there or get delivery from them, its been great. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic. The service is very friendly and attentitive. My favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala and they make it perfect. Their menu price is very cheap compare to other Indian restaurants. I LOVE ANARKALI and plan to go there until I die.
Disappointing to say the least... – I don't know where to begin. The serving staff was unfriendly, rude, bitter and clearly didn't want to to be there. The food was awful -The Tikka Masala sauce was obviously out of a can, the Aloo Gobi was inedible and the Eggplant Bartha was barely tolerable. The rice was even bad. Since moving to LA a couple of months ago, I can honestly say that this was the worst meal I have had in this city. As lovers of Indian food, my husband and I were beyond disappointed...
great Indian food – I used to love going to this place. The Indian food is superb and the ambience is nice, with beaded curtains adorning comfy booths. I stopped going there because once I called to order take-out, but I had to call back to cancel the order. Even though I called back less than 5 minutes after I first placed the order and I was VERY apologetic, the person who answered the phone got rude and hung up on me.
addicted to this place – I was there over the weekend with my husband, and I'm already going through withdrawl. What can I say? I absolutely love this place!! From the moment you walk in you are welcomed with by the friendly staff, the warm and inviting decor, and traditional music playing in the background, which adds the perfect touch. And the food is superb!!! Seriously, I've tried numerous dishes and I've never been disappointed for not going with my "usual" dish. I also appreciate that they ask how spicy you'd like your dish, which really shows just how hospitable they truly are.
