Amazing food, amazing staff – I LOVE sushi and am a horrible sushi snob, I admit it. I lived in hawaii and know fresh fish. I have been to japan multiple times and know what sushi SHOULD be. What they deliver at Umi, is exactly what sushi should look, taste and feel like. The fish is incredibly fresh, beautifully cut, great variety of 'special' fish as well as the standards. Also, try finding live uni anywhere else in this city without paying 3x's what you would pay for it here. Did I mention the prices are AMAZING! You can go elsewhere, get sushi that isn't anywhere close to this beautiful and pay 20% more. I could go on and on. Its a must try. we go there at least once a week. and the Crunchy Spider Maki is a must have!
Awesome Bento Box, Yummy Sushi!!! – I came here yesterday for lunch with the girls from the office and it was so yummy! The place was packed but we still had stellar service, our server was attentive and knowledgeable even with all her tables full. I recommend the sashimi app and bento box, oh and the seaweed salad was killer. I am looking forward to coming back for dinner, what a little gem!
Great sashimi – I ate here for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. The fish was fresh and the rolls were great. The Potrero roll was really tasty.
Umi-gosh!! Soooo Good! – I have been a regular at this place on Potrero Hill at least twice a week since it opened. It has the best sashimi in SF (in my opinion). We always have great service, great food, and great selection of sake too. I am so excited to share with my fellow San Franciscan's this tiny gem that has put a sparkle in my life. The owners are great. If you want recommendations, just ask. You can?t go wrong here. The staff know all the details of the menu and the daily specials? they super nice and very friendly.
Food becomes art at this small-plate Japanese restaurant in Potrero Hill. – In Short
It's all about presentation here: Simple tables are accented with tea candles and white cloth napkins, while each dish is garnished and arranged to stylistic perfection. Lunch and dinner are served in small portions of standard Japanese-restaurant fare such as agedashi tofu, edamame and fresh cuts of sashimi. But diners will also find a few adventurous rolls, such as the Shamus Maki--shrimp tempura and sprouts topped with spicy tuna and avocado.
