Amazing service, selection and prices! – Amazing selection and customer service. I was looking for the best selection of travel goods and the best prices, not chit chat, as an earlier reviewer commented. The owner and sales force were kind and thoughtful but busy.
Despite what another reviewer comments, the individual luggage store depends upon the manufacturer and shipper to deliver. It was very magnanimous to offer a loaner piece. I wonder whether Macy's would make that offer!
If you are looking for luggage and travel goods, there is no better destination than The Luggage Center.(if you are looking for chit chat or miracles, perhaps elsewhere?)
Very rude customer service. I was berated by an older salesperson who grew impatient with me for trying to chit chat with him for 30 seconds (because I admired the repair job) as he rung up my payment at the cash register. Said his time for was customers (of which I am not?!?), and verbatim, told me to take my luggage and leave. Zero people skills. Honestly, other employees in the store were polite and cordial. I just discovered the store a week ago but this one person blew the store's chance at me being a future customer. Very disappointing but their loss.
I have to say I'm disappointed. They let me down. I ordered a piece of Samsonite luggage that I could have bought at Macy's at Short Hills, that I could have ordered online and gotten overnight, and they did not get it for me when it was promised with two weeks to obtain it. Now with less than a week before I travel I have to go shopping for one.
Yes they offered me a loaner for the trip, but that's just not good enough. There's no acceptable reason why a readily available item can't be gotten in two weeks time.
I wanted to give my business to a local store, rather than a national giant, but it seems that it was a mistake to do so. Tomorrow I go to Macy's to buy a suitcase.
GOOD EXPERIENCES – We've used Luggage Center for 35 years and we've always found them helpful, knowledgeable and GOOD WITH OUR KIDS AS WELL AS OUR DOG. The kids have shopped there when they were old enough (very young) to purchase assigned items. Too bad you had such an unacceptable experience. We've never had anything but good and pleasant service.
Don't dare bring your children! – I have been a customer at the Luggage Center for years and have spent hundreds of dollars on accessories and luggage there. I have always found that the owner is a bit domineering and strange, but always with lots of inventory to choose from, which is why I have returned time and again.
However, today (during the Summit Sidewalk Sale Event), he must have been having a terrible day because he essentially verbally attacked me for "not watching my children." First of all, trust me when I say that my kids were right next to me physically, and they were touching the children's suitcases, with their bright colors and designs. They weren't even rolling the suitcases. They were quiet and respectful. I had my cell phone in my hand and was finishing a brief, quiet, urgent phone call to my husband.
Well, the owner went absolutely ballistic and approached me and literally started yelling at me that I needed to get off the phone and watch my children. He was extremely sarcastic and insulting and said, "PEOPLE IN THIS TOWN WATCH THEIR CHILDREN! IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, THEN GO TO THE HOSPITAL! YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE HANG UP THE PHONE (by which time I already had)"
I was shocked, but I tried to appease him by saying, "Okay, okay." To which he screamed, "NO! NOT OKAY, NOT OKAY. GET OUT! JUST GET OUT!!"
As I was leaving, I gave an employee, who had witnessed to whole event, the shaving kit that I had intended to purchase. He lowered his head and said, "I'm sorry."
My children were, to say the least, bewildered and kept asking me what they did wrong. My eight-year-old daughter said,"Wow, Mom--we've never been kicked out of a store before!"
Not only did I have to go home empty-handed (I had gone all the way from Montclair), but I had to explain to my children why that man was so inappropriate.
So, the moral of the story is...don't go there with children, or you'll likely be thrown out!
