Horrible Service, Mediocre Food – We were seated for close to 30 minutes before our drink order was taken. This was after a discussion/argument among the staff to decide who was responsible for our table. Realizing how busy the restaurant was we ordered our complete meal when our drink order was taken hoping to alleviate some delays. We were wrong. When our salads finally arrived they sat on a tray a few feet from our table for 20 minutes until I was able to get the attention of another server to ask if they were for our table and request if we could serve ourselves. He promptly served us the salads. Our entrees did not arrive until more than an hour later after several requests. My Mother’s entrée included a baked potato which came plain despite several requests for butter which never arrived. We are still waiting for our bread and butter to be served after asking several servers/staff. When our water glasses, tea glasses, & champagne glasses went empty they remained empty for the entire 3-hour meal despite numerous requests. Other tables in our section were having similar problems and at least one asked for the check after only receiving drinks. I realize Mother’s Day is a busy day for restaurants but we were disappointed to receive such horrendous service from such an established New Orleans restaurant.
Wonderful Time At Andreas – I had dinner May 1, 2011 at Andrea's. The experience I had was a night to remember. The service was excellent the waiter pick the perfect wine to go with our Veal dishes. The Veal was so tender it melted like cotton candy in my mouth.... I will definitely return.....
Waste of Time – I made 7:30 dinner reservations for my fiancé and I at Andreas for Saturday, February 12, 2011. We arrived at 7:15 and were told the wait would be 30 to 45 minutes. We found seats at the bar, and waited 20 minutes for the seemingly lost bartenders to finally look our way long enough for us to flag them down to get a drink. The bartenders complete lack of knowledge on the bar stock completely turned me off on even wanting a drink. We then waited an additional full hour (1:20 total wait) before we witnessed the arrogant host seat two groups that arrived after we did, apologizing profusely to them for their wait. It's at that time that we left.
I would understand this wait and the seating of others ahead of us had we not made a reservation (which was confirmed the morning of by a female from the restaurant). But with the reservation, an hour and 20 minute wait is completely unacceptable. You may as well not even take reservations!
I've eaten at Andreas many times when I lived in New Orleans and Metairie, and I truly enjoy the food. But there is no excuse for the arrogance of the host, the incompetence of the bar staff, and the ineffectiveness of the reservation process. I will not be back to Andreas - EVER. And I'm certainly going to stop suggesting it to my out-of-town friends looking for the local place to get a great meal. This was truly a disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a special, Valentines Weekend dinner.
Terrible Service – We had reservations for 7:30. We arrived at 7:25 and was told we would have a 30-45 minute wait. After an hour and a half, we were seated in a room that was opened to accomodate the people who had been waiting for so long. The room was next to a reception where a band was playing and it was very loud. Many people after they were seated asked to be moved. We were seated in the bar area after we asked to be moved!! We just came from the bar area after an hour and a half of sitting there!! The food was very mediocre. We will not be back!!
Christmas Service – I see that another contributor has already commented upon the unsatisfactory service and cuisine provided by Andrea's on Christmas Day 2010. I phoned in on 12/27 to complain; and, instead of being listened to, was told that I was the "first person to complain" about the service (as if that would make any difference). Also, the young lady I spoke with wasn't interested in taking my report, but promised to "find my ticket" and get back with me. Not to my surprise, I have not heard from anyone at Andrea's since. Andrea's seems to have become comfortable with bad service, bad food, and bad management. Too bad for its patrons.
Not for Holiday Service – For years we've shared our family Christmas dinner together at Andrea's. Over the years, there have been a few shortfalls, but generally an enjoyable meal UNTIL CHRISTMAS 2010! We couldn't get drinks refilled for hours, food was brought out to some, while other guests were left with nothing for 10+ minutes. Then, prime rib turned out to be ribeye steaks; and, the list of problems just goes on. The service was more than bad, the food was not good, and our tradition is in question!
Andrea's Italian Restaurant - Good food, Great Service – At Andrea's the food was good and the service excellent.
We're glad we went there because we almost didn't go because of the poor reviews. The wait staff was extremely attentive and Andrea himself went to every table to ask how everything was going and how we liked the food. We could not have asked for anything more. We were made to feel very comfortable there. As I have seen on television, Andrea is very active in the New Orleans community, always donating his time and food to worthy causes. I have to admit that it is a little pricey. We will definitely go back again.
Overrated with lazy service. – As a nativeof New Orleans, I'm proud to say that New Orleans food is the best food to eat anywhere in the Southern U.S. I've moved to Atlanta in 2004 and I've tried many restaurants in Atlanta and various big metro cites in the U.S. I find that New Orleans still has the best flavor and the best deals on seafood. I've never written a review for a restaurant until today because of the mediocore experience I've had at Andrea's on Mother's Day evening. Out party consisted of 12 people, my family and my wife's family, therefore it was easy for me to try various dishes becauses we are all comfortable with sharing our meals. We arrived in the evening and there was no crowd therefore I assumed that we wil be well taken cared of. However , I found it very annoying that our water was never re-filled. We all selected the 3-course meals: soup & salad, entree, and dessert. The soup provided was shrimp bisque and cheese filled raviloi with basil sauce. The shrimp bisque tasted like the bottom of the pan of a crawfish boil however the ravioli was great. The salad was drenched in dressing. The entrees that were ordered in my party were veal, trout, salmon, duck, and steak. The veal was bland. The trout had great texture, sweet and light. The flavor was perfect and not overpowering. The salmon was overcooked and lost its natural moisture. The duck had good flavoring but was dry also. I cannot comment on steak because I'm not a steak person but I did notice that the guest who ordered it did not finish his steak. All of the desserts provided that evening was good. The main waiter provided great service, detailed description and geniune personality. The helper however was slow and unattentative. Do not go there and expect above average food. If you ever find youself there at a dinner party I only recommend the trout and stay away from the bisque.
Lazy service, mediocre food – We made the mistake of dining at Andreas on Thanksgiving a few years ago. My main complaint about it was that even though it seemed that plenty of waitstaff was at hand (the place wasn't all that crowded) NOBODY hardly came back to the table to refill drinks etc. The food was mediocre at best. It didn't seem hot enough to me (it was probably sitting in the back for awhile before being brought to the table). The service was slow and disappointing. After getting the bill I was overcharged and the overcharge wasn't removed until I had to show the advertisement they had placed in the paper. Afterwards both my husband and mother was sick the next day with severe stomach cramps and chills. They had the oyster dressing whereas I did not.
I wouldn't go back there again even if I was given a free meal.
real good experience – We wanted to go to Andrea's for a long time and we always forget to do it. After trying Andrea's we feel a little ashamed that we delayed this dinner. From the cocktails at the bar to the appetizers, entrees and dessert everything was delicious. It was Saturday night and the place was relaxed and not noisy at all. We felt welcomed and overall very satisfied.
