Delicious and Unpretentious – What a wonderful place this is. Everything about it, from the wait staff to the absolutely delicious food to the Chef coming out to say hello was honestly beyond our (admittedly high) expectations. The famous director at the next table was making ooh and ahh noises over every dish he ate. We tried not to copy him but, look, it was hard. The polenta appetizer alone was worth walking in the door for. The prices are incredibly reasonable, the wine list is strong, the decor is sweet, the waiter was lovely and funny and French, and
yet the place is thoroughly unpretentious. It may be the best restaurant in Los Feliz. Wait, it is.
LIKE DINING IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE – I LOVE this little Los Feliz gem! My husband and I try to get there every Sunday for Brunch. (The Mistral is our favorite). And the servers are always so friendly. The food is great and, if you like spicy with your morning vodka, the Bloody Mary's are a must. One of my favorite neighborhood joints!
Mediocre – This was a first time visit for my husband, daughter, & I. First impression was great with a lovely atmosphere and Buddha Bar-ish music. Our appetizer was escargots and they were the worst we've ever had--tiny, shriveled up, and covered in a pesto sauce. I'm wondering if they were canned? Both the Lavendar Martini & Basil Martini were good, but second round was awful with too much alcohol. Les plats included homemade sausages & mashed potatoes, Salade De Favouille, & Petit Croque Au Fromage from the Menu D Enfants. The sausages had a made-it-yesterday taste, the soft shell crab in my dish was soggy (not crispy as you'd find in a Japanese restaurant), and the lemon olive oil vinaigrette too overpowering. To conclude, a Bananas Flambe & ice cream dessert with a I've just-been-blow-torched-like-heck taste but the Espresso was fine. I will not return for dinner, however I may give brunch a try.
Fantastic brunch and dinner – We've had brunch at Mes Amis twice now and both times walking away amazed by the food and the drinks. You have to try the toasted croissant with a filet mignon on top, poached egg and hollandaise sauce with truffle. It's absolutely to die for and why not everyone else puts truffle in their hollandaise sauce is a mystery to me. The bloody mary has come perfectly mixed with a nice surprise of roasted onions on top. My wife loved the omelet. Last night we went there for dinner for the first time. As other writers have said the prices are very reasonable. The entrees range from $13 to $31. We had a group with wide ranging taste preferences and everyone walked out happy at $45 a person. We tried two different pasta dishes, the filet mignon, the snapper, vegetarian pizza w/o cheese, and the moules frittes. I tried it all and could go back for any of the dishes again. Obviously, if it's not clear by now, we highly recommend anyone to visit Mes Amis. Oh by the way, we don't have kids but noticed on the back of the menu that they have a special kids menu at $6. This includes a toasted nutella sandwich. What kid wouldn't love that?
Fabulous Food – We just had Sunday Brunch at Mes Amis and we are happy. The food here cannot be better! My husband had the Eggs Benedict, which is his favorite breakfast item, and he said it was the best he has ever had. I had a salad, which was prepared perfectly...just the right amount of dressing, flawlessly candied walnuts and a nice sized portion. Our server was both efficient and polite, with just the right amount of humor...and French! And the place is damn cute! Bottom line, we will be back!
Best French in Los Angeles – This is by far the best French restaurant I've tried in Los Angeles. The rumor was that disgruntled staff from Figaro Cafe opened Mes Amis because the owners of Figaro didn't sell the restaurant to them. I heard about it from my French conversation class at LACC so I decided to try out this place on a quiet Thursday night.
I went with a friend and we ordered a bottle of Malbec. My friend ordered the skirt steak and I ordered the Venison sausages. We tasted each other's food and thought both dishes were bountiful and very delicious. I've never had Venison before but quite enjoyed it. We shared the banana flambe tart a la mode as dessert and we were equally impressed. I am looking forward to trying the lapin (rabbit) next time.
I enjoy French food a lot but I've got to say I've never had good French food that didn't feel like a rip-off until tonight. The atmosphere was also very relaxed. A girl was singing French songs beautifully without intruding on my conversations. The services was also excellent. When the bill came, I realized that the waiter brought me a more expensive bottle of Malbec (about $12 more) than the one I had ordered... but I thought I'd let it go since the food and service were both wonderful.
Will come back for a second meal.
Quaint French Cafe – Another delightful little cafe in Los Feliz - which seems to have a treasure trove of these type of places. Here you are transported into France (if you can ignore the loud nearby traffic) while sitted in the quaint and lovely patio. The servers (all French) are very attentive and professional. Most importantly is the delightful brunch menu - a well-thought out and edited menu ranging from the sweet (think crepes, pancakes) to the savory (steak with poached egg and croissant, charcuterie, burger with gruyere and mushrooms). There is also a nice variety of appertifs and wines.
On my first visit here, I had the filet mignon with poached egg and croissant - perfectly sized for brunch (not too big, not too small), perfectly cooked and plain yummy. My friend had the same, and as we were both delighted, we agreed to come back and try it again some other time. We hear the burger is amazing, and I have to try the pancakes next time!
Parking can be a bit hard to find - they do have a lot behind the restaurant, but the entrance to the lot is not that obvious. There's also street parking nearby.
Dissapointing!!!! – We were promptly seated, however the service was bad. The server had and attitude. Didn't smile once. The food was even worse. The scallops were raw, the ribeye was so tough I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. We had a table of 6 people and each had three courses, in addtion to three bottles of wine. Not even a thank you as we walked out. The only thanks came when I got home and got horribly ill. I will say that their pomme fritte were good but were delivered with our frist course rather than with our main.

Out front, cafe tables sprawl casually among lavender and geraniums. Inside, sleek, circular oxblood leather booths, shimmering curtains, white tablecloths and candles heighten romance amid French chansons. Classic cuisine from the South of France spans from bistro fare like salade Nicoise, galette Alsacienne, ratatouille and pan bagnat to haute plates of duck confit, proscuitto-wrapped monkfish, bouillabaisse and a culinary menage a trois (that is, rabbit prepared three ways).
Our favorite restaurant – There are so many things I love about this restaurant: The food is amazing, the service is impeccable, the decor is lovely. I encourage you to check out this great new find. We have tried most of the entrees and they have been wonderful. All of the specials are fantastic, especially the beef bourguignon. For dessert, the creme brulee with lavender is divine. I can think of no better way to spend an evening, than in one of their lovely booths, having a perfect dinner. Brunch is fantastic as well. This is our favorite new restaurant, and we have brought friends who have loved it as well. It is definitely very special. It?s kind of like going to see a great film, you are moved by the entire experience, and remember the details. When I dine at Mes Amis, it is always memorable. The owners, chef and staff care and it is beautifully reflected in what they have created here. Bon Appetit!
