The White House Special was a great sub, But I had a Cheese Steak today 8/3/2013 and that was not good at all there was NO taste what so ever , need to use some salt and pepper , and if you are going to put lettuce and tomato please put some mayo . Where I live it is called a California cheese steak , not just a Cheese Steak ! I thought I was getting a steak hoagie with onions and cheese .
the hands down best – two problems with all these losers from philly. one, people from philly think that just because something is made in philly or is a part of lame philadelphia heritage that they automatically think it is superior than anything else and refuse to believe otherwise. geno's is the worst. pat's sucks. chink's makes me want to yak. tony luke's is tolerable most of the time, but even then, not great. jim's, not good. number two, hoagies??? come on. recognize when you're beat. be a man for a change and hit the white house for a real sub, ya chumpz.
overrated – nothing to write home about,...very plain salty sub..hate the rolls.
Fond Memories – This is the place I remember from my childhood and whenever I'm in the area I go or I have friends that are going, I tell them they absolutely must get at least one sub from here (and they better bring me one back).
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! YOU MUST HAVE NO TASTE BUDS – Walk in take a number. watch the workers pick unrefrigerated meat called steaks from dirty plastic tubs and cook it on a greased coated grill. NASTY. The rolls are hard as a rock and the workers look like they just were released from the county jail. Bring cash because Visa or Mastercard is not accepted. Over Rated...Pass this hole in the wall by. Your stomach will thank you
The Very Best Subs & Cheesesteaks – When in Atlantic City or in the regional area a stop at The White House Sub Shop is a must. Located in the Ducktown section, this place is a gem!
The whole sandwiches are massive in size and the fresh bread is delivered by the bakery up the block about a dozen times throughout the day. The cheesesteaks put places like Pats and Genos in South Philly to shame and you will never have a better Italian sub.
So whether or not you like grinders, heros, hoagies, po' boys, torpedos or sub(marine) sandwiches, the White House is the place for you.
Overated Hoagies and too crowded – Lets start off...White House serves very good hoagies(im from Philly..I call them hoagies :)
Problem is that I can get a better hoagie at even a Primo chain so I ask myself why the heck would I wait in that line?(All four of my friends had the same opinion) Its nice to go their once in a blue moon but not very practical.
The one thing going for White House is the sheer size of the hoagies....I will say they are a beauty to look at. The execution seemed to be off to me....meat wasn't sliced thin enough...and while the roll was very good I have had better
I still think this place gets the rave reviews more due to the sheer size of the hoagies... I still say Primo's has better rolls and the meat is sliced thinner which is HUGE.
The Only Sub Sandwich....period. – Stand at the counter for take-out and watch bags and bags of fresh breads being brought in from the bakery down the street, this will be the absolute best bread that you will ever have in your life to be used for a sub sandwich. Order the special which is everything (and more of it) with lettuce, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, and peppers. Now, here is the key to the whole thing, bring home these magificent sub sandwiches, wrap them in cling wrap first then aluminum foil, put them in your refrigerator for at least a day before eating them. This will let the meats and cheese along with the extras marinade together and soak into the wonderful sub roll. Each whole special sub can make 6-8 nice sized sandwiches. You will experience not only the best sub at the Jersey shore; but the best hoagie, grinder, poor boy, dagwood, or whatever you want to call it...in the country. PS...tell the sandwich maker at the counter that you are traveling with the sandwiches so that they can double wrap them in heavy butcher wrapping paper. PPS, while you are waiting for your number to be called, check out the photos on the wall. From Sinatra to Joe DiMaggio, everyone has had a sub at The White House; for 60 years, the quality and consistency have not been questioned.
Don't forget the breath mints ... – Huge super subs in a totally frenetic atmosphere. It's always crowded, the servers are usually grouchy (especially the ladies who work the counter) but what the hell ... you're not there for the atmosphere. The subs are tasty and fresh, and we always order them "all the way" (with everything on them but the kitchen sink.)
best sub joint – I have grew up on White House subs. They are the best, there is nothing in the world like them. Everything is made fresh while you stand there. And the taste is Atlantic City.
The decor' is so nostalgic, you could look at the walls for hours.
