Great hotel BUT.. – It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at goo.gl/FPxYD They have some of the best hotel deals on the web!
Horrible Parking Situation and Understaffed – (1) The hotel has a sub-par contractor handling parking and there is no secure lot within the hotel. My car was vandalized and burglarized while in the care of this valet. The valet acted like they could have cared less. Now several days after the incident, I have not heard from the valet company and the hotel has not bothered to call me either to find out if its contractor has acted responsibly to resolve this issue. I have had to turn it over to my insurance company for action and it will have to proceed against the hotel and its contracted valet parking service. (2) The hotel staff was courteous, but the hotel was way understaffed for the holidays, especially in the bar and restaurant. (3) Two, swinging, saloon-type doors that could not be locked 'closed' off the bathroom. Bad idea for a bathroom, right? (4) Great location and nice rooms, but for the reasons given, I would not recommend this hotel.
A Place to Relax – I think the Hotel Contesa has a unique style the staff was very frinedly, the hotel is very clean and the food in the restaurant is great a bit high in price but good. It was my first time in San Antonio I enjoy the riverwalk even if it was raining at times. We had the luxury suite with the view to the down town area it was nice to see it at night and it was great to see the day light in the morning. The bed was so comfortable, the only thing we had a problem with was the light switch and the remote control but we call the front desk and they send someone and the problems was solve in no time he was very pleasant and helpful, one thing was disturbing was that the valet parking person did not ask us to unload the suite cases we park in the front area parking because we were not ready to check in at the time, also the parking price is to high $25 a day.
I do want to thank my friend because of her I was there is a very memorable weekend the 4th July weekend
I will be coming back in the near future. Thank you to all the staff.
Comfortable Stay – As we drove into entrance we were very happy with the friendliness of the staff. Even I had to wait a little longer than I thought I should the staff was attentive when it was my turn. The Bellman waited patiently with our bags and delivered them to our room while we left to walk on the Riverwalk and to eat dinner. The Bellman took care of our daughter?s stuffed animal and made sure to her that he would. I read the unfortunate episode about the theft, that can happen anywhere and all should take care of valuables. It did heighten our awareness but we had no problems. I ended up getting the flu in the middle of the trip and their beds are comfortable to be in all day!
Interesting Stay – I travel frequently around the country and Europe and found Hotel Contessa very mediocre. The hotel itself looked nice but service was slow. The most disappointing part of the stay at Contessa was the theft of several articles. I am sure this doesn't reflect on everyone there but it will prevent me from staying there again or recommending the hotel as this has never happened to me before at any hotel.
Courteous, aesthetically pleasing, and sooooo friendly – There is not an area of this hotel that is not pleasing. The staff seem to know they have it great here. They are genuinely ecstatic about their work. Not a frown seen in 4 days! Wonderful interior design and cozy furniture. Contessa is by far, the best spot on the river to unwind, enjoy the view, and be pampered. This hotel is close to everything, but is refreshingly quiet at the same time. I was happy just sitting out on the patio at the wine bar, reading a book, watching a family of ducks and their little ducklings. (Did I mention the Mello Yello martinis and great appetizers?) The restaurant has an attentive staff, wonderful food, and great aesthetics! This is such a relaxing and welcoming hotel. The pictures do not do it justice. It is just that wonderful! Forget looking elsewhere! Trust me! San Antonio does not get any better than Hotel Contessa!
Finest, cleanest, friendliest hotel I have stayed in, period! – This was undoubtedly the finest Hotel I have stayed in inside the USA! Top of all, clean, outstanding , helpful and well informed staff, and they cater to your every whim. Beautiful suite, great view, quiet, close to river and river walk and boat rides. Great food in the restaurants, room service unbelievably quick, so don't order until you are ready to eat! From calling cabs, recommending restaurants, attractions and things to do, they were all outstanding! This management knows how to find, hire, train and manage employees, and allow them to go the extra mile for their guests.
Rooms very tastefully decorated, beds great, and sound deadening done very well. Not one thing to improve on! Way to go, Hotel Contessa management and employees! They absolutely allowed us to have a fantastic stay as their guests. Like MacArthur said, "I shall return!"
NIGHTMARE STAFF AND MANAGEMENT! RUN! RUN! RUN! – It is my personal duty to find every website that allows ratings of hotels in the area and leave a rating for Hotel Contessa accordingly on every one! My fiance and I make it a point to seek out 4+ star hotels everywhere we travel. Well, let me just say that we would have had better service at Motel 6!
It was my birthday and my fiance booked a room on the hotel's website along with a spa package-he prepaid through the site 2 days prior. We get a call from the concierge THE DAY OF CHECK-IN, informing us that the spa would be closed for 2 days-no reason. My fiance let her know politely that they certainly "dropped the ball" by waiting until the day of my birthday to inform him of this dilemma. To our surprise, she offered to have 2 masseuse come to our hotel room and give us the hour-long massages we paid for, stating "This will be a better massage than the one you originally requested". We get our massages-terrible-and the 2 masseuse refuse to leave without payment!!! THIS IS MY BIRTHDAY! How professional of them to discuss pricing info in front of me. Then the proceed to tell us that they are only part-time masseuse and they work for some rediculous call-out center! WAS THIS THE "BEST" massage we would ever have as promised??? NOPE. After fighting with the horrible evening manager on 1/4/07-he informed us that it "wasn't the hotel's problem" and we "were lucky to get the room for a discounted rate" ( we didn't get any discount) and "the hotel will charge 20% more if you charge the massages to your room"-we had to pay the massage therapists directly. Needless to say, we were upset and asked to have a manager meet with us in the morning-no one contacted us as we were inforned. At checkout, we asked to speak to a manager again and she refused to come out of her office to meet with us. The rude front desk clerk requested my fiance's phone # and said that the manager would contact us shortly. You guessed it....she never called. Never again!
Great Looking Hotel – Wonderful decor, lot's of beautiful touches, convenient location. Noise level was a problem, the higher you go the more the sound from the lobby echoes. Noisy neighbors slamming doors kept us awake for two hours during the night. Pullout sofa in the living room was very uncomfortable.
Otherwise, this was a great place, clean, new, great for traveling with kids.
