Combative, Rude and Sneaky – I tried to set up payment arrangements with this company, they didn't want the amount that I could afford to pay. I called them back and made a one time lump sum payment over the phone. They wanted to know when I could pay the remainder off and I told them I wasn't sure and offered them another payment amount that they did not accept. I told them that I would just call back when I could make another lump payment. Low and behold they automatically charged my debit card without my verbal or written permission which according to the FTC, they are NOT allowed to do. I contacted my bank and notified them that Century Credit was never authorized to take the payment and I have also filed a complaint with the FTC. I attempted to pay my debt off and they did not want what I could afford. They are so rude and chastising it's ridiculous. I also agree, there should be negative stars!
Uncooperative and Rude – When trying to resolve a discrepancy with this company over a bill that I had already paid and asking that they simply send me an itemized statement, they refused. Offered to drive over and pick up a copy of whatever they had and they refused. Only interested in providing verbal info over the phone and rudely at that. They are not so interested in resolving issues: only negatively impacting your credit score. Bad example for the industry. Too bad there is no selection for negative stars!
If You are in Need of Assistance – Per RCW 19.16; 15 USC 1692:
The first time a collection agency contacts you, it must give its name and address, and the name of the original creditor (the business or person you owe money to). It must also tell you in writing the amount of the debt and any fees which have been added, such as interest or collection fees. You must also be informed of your right to dispute the information.
If you have an attorney, the law prohibits a collection agency from contacting anyone other than your attorney. If you do not have an attorney, the agency can contact other people only to find out where you live or work. The collector cannot tell these people that you owe money. In most cases, the collection agency can contact another person only once. These same rules apply to contact with your employer.
-A collection agency cannot call or write to you more than three times a week. Only one of those calls can be at work. You cannot be called between 9 pm and 8 am.
-A collection agency cannot harass, intimidate, threaten, or embarrass you.
-A collection agency cannot threaten violence, criminal prosecution, or use offensive language.
-If you send a written statement requesting a collection agency to stop, it cannot continue to call or write to you to demand payment.
If you suspect that the Century agency has contacted you, and any of the above requirements have not been met, you are encouraged to contact your state's Attorney General's office for further information and/or assistance.
