A tidy spot with smoky meats and a searing hot barbecue sauce. – The Scene
Set in a bright, tidy building that also houses a lobster restaurant and a French bistro. Lots of pictures of fish, which Robb's does not serve, cover the walls and add to the collection of out-of-place art. Though the atmosphere works for the other restaurants, it throws Robb's off balance. Plastic tablecloths protect the Formica tables from excessive spillage. Most nights Robb's closes at 8pm and it is largely an early-to-bed crowd that gathers here.
Several things set Robb's apart from other barbecue joints: the handmade, spicy beer sausage; meats smoked over a combination of oak, hickory, pecan and apple woods that impart a distinctive flavor; and a wickedly hot haba?ero barbecue sauce. Skip the often dry, smoked chicken and go for the surprisingly tender sliced pork leg, and choose the creamy coleslaw and spicy beans over flaccid fries and dry, baked corn pudding.
